Database Processing: Fundamentals, Design, and Implementation (10th Edition)7 reviews
David Kroenke

Prentice Hall, 2005

It's actually very good...
I find it difficult to believe that there are too many errors strewn throughout the book. Most of the examples are in basic SQL, so some tailoring might be required for it to fit your individual DBMS. Of course, you can always go to the last chapters for practical applications using proprietary software. This leads me to remind the buyer that the book is about concepts and design, not ...

BGP Design and Implementation (Networking Technology)11 reviews
Randy Zhang, Micah Bartell

Cisco Press, 2003

Real world BGP - advanced solutions
This book provides an excellent reference for understanding advanced BGP designs and implementations. It expands on the general BGP functionality and configuration covered in other BGP books like Internet Routing Architectures (ISBN: 157870233X). If you need a general BGP book or are just starting to learn BGP, start with Internet Routing Architectures to learn about BGP then use this book to ...

Implementation Patterns (The Addison-Wesley Signature Series)18 reviews
Kent Beck

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2007

well said...
Just finished reading this book. Really enjoyed Kent Beck's short but precise and easy to follow through style and comments. Yes, as we develop software we seem to forget about the complexities we create and don't necessarily think about the "next" person whom may have to read the code that we write and extend as he/she sees fit. Very clear point made at the start and at the end. We ...

DataBase Systems: A Practical Approach to Design, Implementation and Management (4th Edition) (International ...38 reviews
Thomas M. Connolly, Carolyn E. Begg

Addison Wesley, 2004

Excellent, for practitioners and beginners. Other reviews are a puzzle
I was almost put off buying this book by some of the very negative reviews. I bought the book. I have designed a few databases but that is not my main job, and I wanted to get up to speed on database design and use for a short project that I am leading. I have bought several books on the subject, and this is one of the most useful. The book is detailed, which means that if you want to go into ...

Operating Systems Design and Implementation (3rd Edition) (Prentice Hall Software Series)26 reviews
Andrew S Tanenbaum, Albert S Woodhull

Prentice Hall, 2006

A great introduction to operating systems
This book is written by Tanenbaum, the main guy behind Minix, which is what Linux was based on. It provides good overviews for basic OS concepts like memory management, file systems, processes, etc. The concepts in this book book are intimately tied to examples of the Minix OS, which is a good thing. To those who would rather see examples from Linux: Minix is a compact and modular OS, which ...

Design Management: Managing Design Strategy, Process and Implementation (Ava Academia)2 reviews

Perfect for professional development
The book is an excellent example of the successful combination between theory and practice. Structured as a hypertext the book allows you to open and read at from any page or passage. A lot of contemporary cases from all over the world show you a wide scope of design management specifics. After reading the book you'll be armed with the up-to-date ideas and concepts. This masterpiece by Kathryn ...

John Jeston, Johan Nelis

Mandatory Reading (If you have just one BPM book this is it)
If you are seeking guidance on what corporation need to do to become process centric, this is the leading book on the topic. I am on the OMG OCEB committee and we are writing OMG's certification exam for Business Process Experts. While this book was not cited on the fundamental exam, it certainally will be cited in the intermediate and advanced exam. Many on the committee recognize the ...

Curriculum Leadership: Development and Implementation1 review

Curriculum Leadership
I liked this text because it is comprehensive and easy to read. The end of chapter summaries are great!

Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management, Seventh Edition25 reviews
Peter Rob, Carlos Coronel

Course Technology, 2006

Decent book
This text covers database theory and some SQL (two chapters or so). I think it's generally good book as an intro to database systems. It will not make you into DBA or programmer, but you'll feel better grip of database concepts you may encounter in other more 'practical' books (like DB programming, or administration). To learn SQL for example, you'll need to get couple more books. This is not ...

Implementation: How Great Expectations in Washington Are Dashed in Oakland; Or, Why It's Amazing that Federal ...1 review
Jeffrey L. Pressman, Aaron Wildavsky

University of California Press, 1984

Implementation - Not your everyday chore.
Pressman and Wildavsky does an excellent job pointing out the many obstacles that can occur with policy implementation. Far too often, policy-makers create policy without giving much thought to the implementation. In reality, the way policy is implemented actually establishes the policy.

Avionics: Development and Implementation (Electrical Engineering Handbook)1 review

CRC, 2006

An Excellent Introduction at the Engineering Level
Previously published as one volume, this book is now one of two under the general name Digital Avionics Handbook (2nd Edition). The two volumes are Avionics: Elements, Software and Functions and Avionics: Development and Implementation. This book offers a comprehensive view of avionics from understanding the basic technology and components that make up the overall system. It includes examples ...

Antitrust Law: Interpretation and Implementation, Third Edition (University Casebook Series)
Charles J. Goetz, Fred S. McChesney

Foundation Press, 2005

This new edition casebook excels at communicating a sense of how antitrust law affects both business decisions and lawyerly practice. It addresses the initial difficulty that most students experience in understanding how the different statutes, doctrinal developments, and economic issues fit together to form a reasonably coherent picture. The authors achieve this by presenting a set of overview materials that provide a clear road map and useful ...

MCTS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Implementation and Maintenance Study Guide: Exam 70-4315 reviews
Joseph L. Jorden, Dandy Weyn

Sybex, 2006

A reasonable effort - more than just exam prep.
This book's intention is to prepare the reader as best as it can to pass the Microsoft 70-431 exam. It covers all the relevant topics and appears to be a great resource in doing so. However, I have a few concerns. First the positives: The book is well balanced with theory followed by practical exercises. Each chapter ends with a summary of what was just covered, what level of knowledge is ...

Class A ERP Implementation: Integrating Lean and Six Sigma2 reviews
Donald H. Sheldon

J. Ross Publishing, 2005

A great resource for moving towards world class manufacturing
This is an excellent book for understanding what a great ERP looks like and how to get there. It is a very easy read - mixing actual business cases with theory but it does not get bogged down in technical descriptions. It is a "soup to nuts" book on the entire Sales&Operations planning process.

C Interfaces and Implementations: Techniques for Creating Reusable Software (Addison-Wesley Professional ...12 reviews
David R. Hanson

Addison-Wesley Professional, 1996

Great book, just don't buy it through Amazon.
I purchased this book through Amazon on October 16 2006 11:05 PDT. I finally killed the order this morning because they still can't seem to get it in stock. Don't get me wrong, this is a great book with many good examples. However, if you want it this century, go check your local computer bookstore because most online retailers are out of stock (including Addison-Wesley themselves).

Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management, Eighth Edition1 review
Peter Rob, Carlos Coronel

Course Technology, 2007

MIssing Material
Book does not come with the student content that it is suppose to come with. It is supposed to come with online appendices A though L and downloads for files used in each chapter. I would not advise to by a 130 dollar incomplete book. It was release in December of 2007 unprepared for people to use because it makes references to sites and files that don't exist but are supposed to. Signed Cheated ...

Kaizen Event Implementation Manual, 5th Edition3 reviews
Geoffrey L. Mika

Society of Manufacturing Engineers, 2006

We bought enough for the whole plant!
This is the one book that belongs on the shop floor. We give a copy to each worker and use it as our "bible". Finally a 'recipe' type book that is complete and enlightening. Sensei Mika has put together a solid how-to-do-it book. A good reference book for terminology and has an excellent simulation package. We tried the 4 step training approach and it works!!! I wish there were books like ...

Advanced Compiler Design and Implementation17 reviews
Steven Muchnick

Morgan Kaufmann, 1997

Great starting point for compiler development
Compiler development is more of a craft than a science, although there's plenty of science involved. It involves huge numbers of tradeoffs in features, optimizations, and use of the underlying processor. But, as long as people keep coming up with new computing platforms (and not just instruction set processors), new languages, and new performance demands there will always be need for new compiler ...

MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-431): Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Implementation and Maintenance ...37 reviews
Solid Quality Learning

Microsoft Press, 2006

Great Book, Great Author
I bought this book because I had the opportunity to take a training course by one of the co-authors, Mike Hotek. Mike is an awesome teacher as well as writer. This book had very clear practical examples ranging from how to create a table to replication and database mirroring. I found that if you want to learn the just-above-the-basics of SQL 2005, this book is for you. Even if you don't know ...
