Lange Q&A Surgery, Fifth Edition9 reviews
C. Cayten, Max Goldberg, ...

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2007

Representative of real surgery shelf
I'm surprised of the 1-star reviews on here. I originally bought this book based on other med students' recommendations. I thought the book was excellent in preparing me for the Surgery shelf. Compared to Pretest, I thought the questions in this book was better representative of the actual shelf style type of questions. Yes, there are errors in the book, but these are extremely minor and very ...

Too Fat to Fish268 reviews
Artie Lange, Anthony Bozza

Spiegel & Grau, 2009

Too Fat To Fish
This book was incredible. It was honest and gritty. Artie is a great guy who just can't seem to get away from his deamons. I cried and I laughed in this book. I loved it and would read it again!

Lange Q&A: Physician Assistant, Fifth Edition (LANGE Q&A Allied Health)12 reviews
Anthony Miller, Albert Simon

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2006

Best price I found for new book!
I had the last edition of this book when I studied for the NCCPA exam and I need to recertify again this year so bought the new edition. This was a great price for the book. I like the questions format because it keeps my mind focused and challenges what I think I already know (as opposed to the summary format in which I would daydream while reading through some of it).

Lange Q&A: Radiography Examination, Seventh Edition (LANGE Q&A Allied Health)20 reviews
D.A. Saia

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2008

great information
Although I haven't taken the exam yet, this book really helps to bring the "reality" of the registry questions to light. With the answers included and explanations of why the answer is what it is, is so helpful in my preparation. There is a website included that I haven't been to yet but, I do intend on using it too. Also included is a study plan, that so far has really helped me study for other ...

Dorothea Lange: A Life Beyond Limits3 reviews
Linda Gordon

W. W. Norton & Company, 2009

FABULOUS!
While I have not completely finished this book, I couldn't wait to write a review. Linda Gordon has done a masterful job of merging history, biography and art in a most enjoyable book. I can't put it down! Admittedly, I've always admired Dorothea Lange's photographs, but I had only an inkling as to how complicated her life was, and how entwined it was with San Francisco's Bohemian art world. ...

Katzung & Trevor's Pharmacology Examination and Board Review: Eighth Edition (LANGE Basic Science)4 reviews
Anthony Trevor, Bertram Katzung, ...

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2007

Slightly more preferred than Lippincott.
I have had Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology, 4th Edition (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews Series) for my entire second year of medical school. I recently purchased this book, and although I can't give a thorough post-Step 1 review yet, I do prefer studying (for exams and Step 1) from this book rather than Lippincott's. The chapters are more lined up with the way my pharmacology ...

Clinical Neurology, Seventh Edition (LANGE Clinical Medicine)2 reviews
Roger Simon, David Greenberg, ...

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2009

First approach to clinical neurology
This text is a good introduction to clinical neurology. It is especially useful to residents, since it can be read in a few days and shows how to approach the most common syndromes. Unfortunately, the sections on individual diseases include important omissions and are often out-dated.

Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards2 reviews
Suzanne Baron, Christopher Lee

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2009

Great for quick review
As a pharmacist, I find these flashcards highly relevant and succinct. For those studying for the pharmacy boards or USMLE, I suggest saving time by not making your own flashcards, but using a "base" set (I like LANGE Katzung's Pharmacology), then adding or deleting cards, highlighting and marking as necessary. In the end, it's all about the repetition and DOING CASES, not wasting time making ...

Lange Q&A: Pharmacy, Ninth Edition (LANGE Q&A Allied Health)5 reviews
Gary Hall, Barry Reiss

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2007

Great book to study for Naplex..
This is among the best books that I have read so far. I really liked different sections of topics covered for Naplex with format similar to Naplex. Best thing about this book is the CDROM that came with the book and has many questions in real Naplex like format with full explanations, why the answer is right or wrong. I have heard good things from many of my friends who have cleared Naplex ...

Review of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Tenth Edition (LANGE Basic Science)4 reviews
Warren Levinson

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2008

Great Book, Bad Index
I received this book about a week ago to supplement my studying for my Medical Immunology and Microbiology course. This has been terrific at helping to clarify the lectures that my professors give. The only problem that I've found is that the Index is not always correct in terms of page numbers. If you are looking for something and can't find it on the pages listed in the index, look a page ...

Gastrointestinal Physiology (LANGE Physiology Series)2 reviews
Kim Barrett

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2005

Tremendous Overview of GI Physiology for the begginer or advanced
I read this book before ever taking a class on GI physiology (though I have a background in other aspects of physiology and biochemistry), and I was hooked from the first chapter. I was able to understand it as if I was reading Harry Potter. A year later I read it again for fun as a bedtime treat. It is tremendously well organized, each chapter is logically set up so that it is easy to think ...

Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, 11th Edition (LANGE Basic Science)6 reviews
Bertram Katzung, Susan Masters, ...

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2009

great shape, speedy delivery
I saved over $30 on this book by buying it from Amazon rather than the school bookstore. The book arrived within days of ordering it and was in excellent condition.

Appleton & Lange Review for the Ultrasonography Examination (Appleton & Lange Review Book Series)6 reviews
Charles Odwin, Arthur Fleischer

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2004

Excellent review for ultrasound physics
This book is a great investment for those preparing for the ARDMS Physics boards. It should be used along with a good physics text (such as Edelman's Understanding Ultasound Physics). Appleton and Lange's study guide provides a good REVIEW of physics; however, there is NOT enough material to study to fully prepare students to sit for the boards. The 500+ questions following the study guide ...

Impounded: Dorothea Lange and the Censored Images of Japanese American Internment11 reviews
Dorothea Lange

W. W. Norton, 2008

The Courage of Dorothea Lange
As a teacher reading "Farewell To Manzanar," this book is invaluable describing the government attitude of the time. Yes it was wartime but, as Ronald Reagan said, "it was a mistake." These Lange photographs show the real hardships imposed on American citizens with no due process. They also show the courage and determination of these people. (Shikata ga nai) The book itself is produced well ...

Pathophysiology of Disease An Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Sixth Edition (Lange Medical Books)9 reviews
Stephen J. McPhee, Gary D. Hammer

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2009

Excellent Pathophysiology book
This is an excellent pathophysiology book available in the market. I am right now preparing for my step 2 but I wish I would have used this book for my step 1. I have a decent score on my step 1 and I have taken the exam recently and I think if somebody masters this book they can rock the exam. This book gives excellent information regarding many diseases. I am trying to study this book right now ...

Lange Pathology Flash Cards, Second Edition (LANGE FlashCards)1 review
Suzanne Baron, Christopher Lee

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2009

No Pictures
The box is kind of deceptive. There are no pictures on these flash cards. All there are on these flash cards are clinical cases and disease description on the other side. False advertising, but they a good set of cards.

Lange Q & A: Psychiatry4 reviews
Ivan Oransky, Sean Blitzstein

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2007

Great for shelf exam
I used it for the shelf exam and found it to be very good. Clear explanations, each wrong answer choice serves as a review. Shelf was much more simolar to this book than pre-test.

CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2010, Forty-Ninth Edition (LANGE CURRENT Series)3 reviews
Stephen J. McPhee, Maxine Papadakis

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2009

Just what I needed!
This is my favorite book to study from. It gives you the essentials to pretty much any health related problem. Ok, so it's not Harrison's book of internal medicine. But it is small enough that I can carry it without getting a hernia.

Daring to Look: Dorothea Lange's Photographs and Reports from the Field7 reviews
Anne Whiston Spirn

University Of Chicago Press, 2009

Rare combination of pen and image
Anne Spirn's latest book is really quite outstanding. She combines the clear eye of a superlative photographer (her own) to write in limpid prose about the clear eye and conscience of another (Dorothea Lange's). This is not just a meta-documentary, a documentary of a documentary, it is also an examination of the changes that have been wrought in the United States over the last two to three ...
