Very mean spirited book
I purchased this book for my Kindle hoping to read about a wealthy woman and who lives in a world completely different than my own. What I got was mean spirited gossip and half baked innuendos about what a bad person Lily Safra is. The book is so slanted against Mrs. Safra and so mean that it was unenjoyable.

An outstanding African Victorian adventure story
Sadly, Rider Haggard is no longer required reading in the school system. Nevertheless, this rip-roaring action story about the early life of Umslopogas, a character more usually found in a supporting role in the novel Alan Quartermain, is probably Haggard's most poetic and free-flowing yarn. A multiplicity of interesting characters is to be found in this tale, although the central theme is ...

"You want the daddy you never got."
Years ago, I sent out a birthday invitation with the theme, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood." Funny - or so I thought. But for Daley Amory, the main character of Lily King's poignant and at times heartbreaking Father of the Rain, those words are anything but funny. We meet her as an 11-year-old, torn between the liberal and do-good world of her mother and the conservative, ...

Hooray for Lily Bard!
So, I gave the last book in the series a not-so-wonderful review, however this installment gets an A+! I was having a difficult time caring about Lily in the last book. It wasn't that I didn't like her, I was trying to, it's just that she was so..hard-shelled. But anyway, this book was wonderful and I am on the third one! I've already purchased the reast of the books in the series and can't wait ...

A life well lived!
This book was a lovely and enjoyable read! I commend Lily for dumpster diving and saving what she could. It pains me to think what was lost in the other trunks! This book does read like a novel. Florence lived a exhuberant life! Quite an accomplished teenager!Life in her teen years was about the journey and not the destination! Every moment absorbed and enjoyed, unlike today! This book is a ...

Powerful, Delicious Nourishment for Knitters
For over two decades, Lily Chin has been one of the modern knitting world's greatest contributors. She is a consummate teacher, a prolific and spot-on technical innovator, a fine designer, and has so much energy and thinks at such a hummingbird speed that I doubt we have even seen half of what she will ultimately contribute. In this book, Lily gathers and presents her encyclopedic knowledge of ...

Lily Chin's Knitting Tips & Tricks
Very nice job crafting this book. It is the perfect size for knitters to tuck into their knitting bag. Despite its small size, it is packed with information and clear illustrations. The information it contains is quite detailed and thorough. I also like that there is an index in the back.

Lily Dale:The True Story of the Town that Talks to the Dead
Lily Dale, by Christine Wicker was an interesting book. The author, a journalist who focuses on religion, based this book on visits to the town of Lily Dale, a spiritualistic community in New York State. While it reads like fiction, this is a true account on her experiences in the town and the people she meets (some names changed). While originally just going to see what all the hype is ...

Be captivated into this life
I'm such a fan of this author- she truly captures all the raw emotions her characters go through. Even if you can't relate personally you have a connection to the characters like they are you're friends. You feel like you are on this roller coaster ride with the main character in her life- you are crying at her lowest points and cheering her on and at her highest points. Good read!!

Wendy Corsi Staub is my favorite author, and this book definitely reminds me of why! The Lily Dale series is captivating and will keep you on the edge of your seat from front cover to back! I know this is marketed as a Young Adult series, however I must admit that I am 32 and love this series. Book 4 of the series, "Discovering" is expected to come out in 2009 and I can't wait! an extraordinarily talented writer
Here's another winner from Lily King, author of The Pleasing Hour. Her second book doesnt disappoint. At first I thought it would be about the difficulties of merging two families in second marriages--which to an extent, it is. Vida marries Tom, but she seems terribly uncertain about it, while he couldn't be more sure he's done the right thing. Vida teaches English at a private school, and her ...

Refreshing Series
I found the books to have a very refreshing "attitude" rather than the disrespectful attitude that other books have portrayed. But my opinion wouldn't matter if my girls didn't enjoy reading them! The good news is that they LOVE them! It's time to order the next few books in the series!!

A Timely Collection of Essays Regarding the Spiritual Life
Ronald Rolheiser has many gifts he brings to spiritual writing. First he is a person of deep faith. He is also aware of the world we live in today, both its good points and its flaws. Combine this with a keen insight into people and a Catholicism that combines the best of the Catholic tradition with current insights into what feeds and nourishes people and you get an idea of what he brings to the ...
