Photographic History of SF's Marina District
This book is part of a fine semi-standardized, affordable series on the history of neighborhoods of San Francisco. The books have a number of chapters with a very brief essay on a time period, followed by many photographs with descriptive captions. These books are quite informative and have few substitutes. The Marina District edition by Dr. William Lipsky is nicely done and gives a good ...

Lipsky's Book Pops with Insight!
This novel is filled with acute observations about the strong bond that occurs between mothers and sons, and the ineffable vicissitudes of the New York art world. I read the last hundred pages of David Lipsky's THE ART ROOM in a rush and was so caught up in the story-it became a real page turner for me. There was such a sense of dread which Lipsky sets up while Richard, the young narrator, and ...

Street-level Bureaucrats as Policy Makers
In this book, Lipsky examines the critical role of street-level bureaucrats in the policy-making and/or policy implementation process. The traditional model of public policy theory assumes that policy choices are made by the elected political executives and the implementation of those choices are left to the jurisdiction of bureaucrats. Lipsky challenges this line of argument/belief on the basis ...

An excellent treatment of some rather complex material.
This book is an excellent introduction to queueing analysis using matrix analytic techiques. The book is very readable and the author provides numerous examples to illustrate crucial points. Analysis of the M/M/1, M/G/1, GI/M/1, M/G/C, and GI/G/1 queues and variants are performed via a consistent framework. Also, the author presents an introduction to busy period analyses which is interesting. ...

Great cram tool!
I am a 36 year old physician who used this book to help prepare for board recertification, and I can honestly say that using this book helped. It is very well divided into the different subjects and has a great sampling of questions that were consistent with the questions I saw on the exam. I not only passed but did very well on the exam! This is a very sound and solid investment!

Absolute must reading
'Absolutely American' is a fantastic book. It brings the reader into West Point and into the hearts and minds of the cadets. The author, a writer for Rolling Stone, begins skeptical of what he might find on the Hudson but leaves fascinated and a bit awed by the young men and women who take on the challenges that West Point puts before them. I thought of going to West Point when choosing a ...

Blueprints in Family Medicine
Great resource for both residents and medical students with concise overviews of the most common presenting illnesses seen in general family practice. I used it to study for Step 3, and found it a very high yield reference.

In a chaotic or threatening situation, fear is the primary emotional response of an autistic individual. Often the initial physical response is to freeze. 'Meltdowns', or brain overloads can be scary for the individual with autism, and for the person trying to help if they don't know how to react in this situation. Common coping strategies, such as hand flapping or leg shaking, can be misperceived as being wilful, noncompliant, and ...

Current Concepts in Autoimmunity and Chronic Inflammation (Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology)

The ethiopathologies of autoimmune diseases are complex. A broad variety of cell types and gene products are involved.
