The Little Black Book of Style50 reviews
Nina Garcia

Collins Living, 2007

Nice, Informative Style Book
I was very excited to read The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia, former editor-at-large at Elle Magazine and judge on Bravo's popular tv show "Project Runway." Nina provides her own point of view on style and fashion as well as provides useful tips from many of her famous designer friends. I really liked her account of her upbringing in Columbia and how her mother and father, as well as ...

Speaking for Myself: My Life from Liverpool to Downing Street3 reviews
Cherie Blair

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

Fascinating character study of a flawed woman who's led an interesting life
Cherie Blair's main claim to fame is her marriage to Tony Blair who was Britain's Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007. However she is also an interesting individual in her own right: the daughter of a famous actor who has had a prestigious legal career as well as having a front row seat for recent political events. She was widely disliked in the UK, and I have to say that if you don't like Cherie ...

An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination: A Memoir18 reviews
Elizabeth McCracken

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

Someone is Missing and It's a Happy Life
This is the story of a very private and personal loss: the loss of Elizabeth McCracken's baby, stillborn, in the ninth month of what had been a fairly normal pregnancy. As an author, McCracken recognizes the healing powers of the written word and the need to put all of this down on paper. She has done a remarkable job. This is a poignant memoir told, not just with obvious sadness, but with a ...

Randine Lewis

Little, Brown and Company, 2005

IT WORKS!!!!!!
After 6 years, this book made the difference. I just have to share this with anyone and everyone who is trying to conceive and having difficulty. I think it's important you know my fertility background. I am now 35 years old, about 178lbs now, my husband is 36 and we have been TTC for 6 years and 2 months. About 16 months in, I decided to quit a very stressful job (which I believed was a ...

One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd266 reviews
Jim Fergus

St. Martin's Griffin, 1999

One Thousand White Women
It was difficult to believe that this was fiction. The characters became very real and identifiable. The story, although initially unbelieveable subject matter became real and emotional. Great story with great character development.

When Will There Be Good News?: A Novel21 reviews
Kate Atkinson

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

"A Coincidence Is Just An Explanation Waiting To Happen."
Coincidence as defined by Webster "the occurrence of events that happen at the same time by accident but seem to have some connection." Kate Atkinson is a perfectionist when it comes to coincidence. Her mystery thrillers are made of such. Into each one she weaves a story that grabs us and soon we are ensconced in the telling of the tale. How to describe the beginning? A full cut madness that ...

Testimony: A Novel29 reviews
Anita Shreve

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

As stimulating as it is sad
There's a reason we love police procedurals and courtroom dramas: they invite readers to plunge in, giving us a chance to look at the evidence, hear the witnesses and guess at what it all means. As the pieces accumulate, little by little a picture of the truth --- or of a truth --- emerges. For nail-biting tension, there's nothing to beat this sort of slow, tantalizing buildup. Although ...

The 6th Target142 reviews
James Patterson, Maxine Paetro

Little, Brown and Company, 2007

Best one in series so far
I love how such a diverse group of people read these books. I totally disliked the 5th book because it was disjointed and made no sense, but others loved it. In this one, I felt Patterson tied everything together in the end with great stories through out. I loved this one. Can't wait to see if Schitzo man comes back later as he seemed to have his eyes set on Lindsey at the end of his book.

Little Earthquakes : A Novel (Washington Square Press)246 reviews
Jennifer Weiner, 2005

Much more than a good 'beach read'
Like everything I've read by Jennifer Weiner, I absolutely adored this book. It featured real, fully realized and emotionally intelligent characters -- both men AND women. I fell in love with Becky, Ayinde, Kelly and Lia, so much so that I didn't even have to look up their names just now! I read the book more than a month ago and haven't stopped thinking about it. While other reviewers have ...

God's Wisdom for Little Girls: Virtues and Fun from Proverbs 3117 reviews
Elizabeth George

Harvest House Publishers, 2000

WISDOM AT IT'S BEST
This beautifully illustrated book is full of wonderful prose and rhymes that could be read to any little girl old enough to know right from wrong. The stanza format is excellent, and if you were to work on and apply each page a week at a time (with repetitive reviews) it will turn into a lasting treasure.

Little Women (Signet Classics)71 reviews
Louisa May Alcott

Signet Classics, 2004

The Sticking Together Sisters
Little Women is a story about four sisters who live with their mother. I thought it was a great story because it is really easy to figure out what they are doing in a jiff. The best part of this book is that it shows the characters have feelings and emotions that are throughtout the whole story. The story explains to me what it was like to live back in the older days. Yet to me this book seems ...

Three Little Words: A Memoir37 reviews
Ashley Rhodes-Courter

Atheneum, 2008

A must have book if you are involved with social services or children in the system
I have purchased over a dozen copies of this book. I literally give them away to people. Ashley Rhodes-Courter is a success story. Unfortunately not all kids in foster care get to have a success story. Ashley aptly shows the reality of living in foster care in an engaging and spellbinding way. I have adopted 3 children out of foster care, 2 of them older child special needs adoptions with ...

The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know From America's Baby Experts99 reviews
Martha Sears, William, ...

Little, Brown and Company, 1997

the BEST pregnancy book, by far
This book helped me both enjoy and understand my pregnancy. Each time I hit the first day of each month of my pregnancy, I would sit down and read that month's chapter. There were times when I felt like I was reading an auto-biography! The authors really understand what pregnant mothers are going through. It gave me peace of mind about what was happening. I cannot say enough good things about ...

Little House 9 Book Box Set (Little House)151 reviews
Laura Ingalls Wilder

HarperTrophy, 2007

A fabulous family reading experience.
I read some of these books as a child and bought the set for my own daughter and started reading it to her, and my son, when she was five and he was four. Both children loved them! I'd like to say they loved them all, but the truth is, they really loved the first two books, when Laura was closer to their own age; enjoyed Farmer Boy; and from there, my daughter continued to enjoy the books, but ...
