Rethink - perhaps?
Really cool book -- we are or aspire to be like those who never existed. Been passing this book around and talking about it. People don't realize how influenced (or biased) they are especially in thought by those who never existed. Great Read.

Heather Lende writes the social column and obituaries for the small town paper in Haines, Alaska. You get to feel you know all of the residents there through her eyes and the columns she tells about that she has written. A book well worth reading. Wonderful book
This book was very informative and helps the young reader to know what it would have been like to live in New York City at the turn of the last century. It touched on the rich and the poor, where they lived, where they worked, how they spent their leisure time, what life was like for the children, what they wore, what they ate, etc. It conveyed a lot of information in an easy, etertaining style. ...

Great kids book with nice illustrations.
All of the "If you Lived at the Time of..." books are great for kids, and also a nice, quick read for adults! What I like about them is their layout, which is easy for readers to follow. Each page begins with a question, "Would you have seen a battle in the South?" for example. Nicely drawn illustrations accompany each answer. The book itself is small and lightweight enough to be handled easily ...

BOTH sides of the story!
Kay Moore's excellent book is of tremendous value to young students of history because it contributes something rare for younger readers -- some insight into the other side of the story of the American Revolution. Not every colonist was in favor of war, and many fled for their lives rather than refuse to follow their conscience. Many in the colonies felt they owed their comfortable lifestyle ...

Excellent!
Of all the history on daily life, no book offers more practical insight into the daily lives of Colonists. The Bible says, "Out of the mouths of babes..." Perhaps the same is true "For the eyes/ears of babes..." Truly excellent. In all my searching through so many standard old history books, I could not find answers to the questions this book resolved. Best of all, our kids love it!

Jackson was a genius, she left us too soon.
A young woman, her older sister, and their uncle live as pariahs on a crumbling estate next to a small town. We first meet the girl on one of her tortuous and torturous bi-weekly excursions into town to get supplies. Something happened at the house on the estate seven years ago which devastated this once prosperous, leading family. The full story is not revealed until near the end of the book ...

A First Holocaust Book for the Teen Reader
"I Have Lived A Thousand Years" is a personal and gut-wrenching story of how a 13-year old girl survived the German Holocaust in the death camp of Auschwitz. The book is fairly short with short chapters. It is obviously written for adolescent readers, but can certainly be appreciated by adults as well. This is a very good first book for teens to learn about the Holocaust. It is written in the ...

Surprisingly comprehensive
This surprisingly comprehensive little book addresses over 40 questions children would dream up about a slave's life...and a few they wouldn't. What did slaves wear? What did they eat? Would you live with your father and mother? What if your father belonged to another slave owner? Did the children have to work? What games did they play? Were any black people free? While the answers are by ...

Jesus spent over 20 Years in India
It seems Christians are hell-bent in twisting and manipulating history. The fact that Jesus went to India is not speculation, just ask the many educated and knowledgeable people in India. The Roman-Christian emperor Constantinople did the same in 100AD by dismissing the science of reincarnation that Jesus spoke about, causing many testaments to be destroyed. There is still mention of ...

If You Lived With The Iroquois
Ellen Levine and illustrator Shelly Hehenberger have created a delightful book that takes the young reader into a historical look at life as an Iroquois Indian. The eighty page book is divided into subtitles which concisely tell the story of daily living for the early Iroquois people. As the book is written in second person, the reader is drawn into the story and feels as if he or she is ...

I loved it so much, I wrote my own companion book
I got this book back in early 2007. Actually, I got the book, and, as I tend to do, by the time it arrived I had forgotten what made me so excited to buy it. After a few weeks, I got to it and read it through in about two days. The book really got me thinking about implementing that nugget of wisdom to read Proverbs daily corresponding the day to the chapter (today's the 8th so I read the 8th ...

A Lot of Knowledge in a Small Book
As a non-Catholic, I find Francis of Assisi fascinating as a man who gave up the life he knew, with all its privileges, to live with as little as possible so as to serve the people as Christ did. So I was happy to find this easy-to-read book. The book is divided into different sections consisting of ÒreflectionsÓ, which are what normal people call ÒchaptersÓ. The first section is called the ...
