Lone Star Living: Texas Homes and Ranches4 reviews
Tyler Beard, Jack Parsons

Bulfinch, 2003

Rustic Western Interiors at Their Best!
Without exaggeration, this is the best book to date documenting rustic western interiors. The extraordinary Cowboy and Indian memorabilia collections featured in these homes will make you green with envy. Large, beautiful photographs of exceptional Texas homes, no sterile contemporary interiors here. I've always admired Beard and Parsons work, this is the best to date. No disappointments here!

The Yellow Rose (Lone Star Legacy #2)2 reviews
Gilbert Morris

Thomas Nelson, 2004

Restores my Faith in Quality Fiction
The Yellow Rose is the first novel I've read in quite some, but I'm delighted to say that it was well worth the wait! Gilbert Morris has done an excellent job weaving an exciting tale of action, adventure and romance. He's created a wonderful balance between historical fiction and romance, a nice blend of narrative and just enough facts to set the tone of the story. Hosting a radio show for ...

Lone Stars of David: The Jews of Texas (Brandeis Series in American Jewish History, Culture, and Life)2 reviews

Brandeis, 2007

Very Informative Book
This book is packed full of very interesting information. I saw it at a friends house and just had to have it. It is worth the purchase for this bit of history.

Lone Star Rising: The Texas Rangers Trilogy (Texas Rangers)4 reviews
Elmer Kelton

Forge Books, 2005

Outstanding Western Fiction
I have read all three of these books separately. Although a trilogy, each can be read on its own. Kelton does an incredible job of creating a sense of place in his novels, and his character development exceeds L'amour's. Highly recommended.

Lone Star Rising: Lyndon Johnson and His Times, 1908-196011 reviews
Robert Dallek

Oxford University Press, USA, 1992

The Landmark LBJ Biography
Dallek's two-volume examination of LBJ is a dramatic and nuanced examination of one the most complex figures in 20th century American history. Even almost three decades after his death, there are no shortage of people who see LBJ as the ultimate villan of American politics. Many people of this camp dislike Dallek's work, because he puts his subject in his context. While Dallek does not excuse ...

A Case of Lone Star3 reviews
Kinky Friedman

Vandam Press, Inc., 2000

Kinky vs. Hank Williams
Kinky Friedman's 2nd detective novel, Case of Lone Star, is better than his first simply because it takes place in the music world, Kinky's other love. Our country singing, cat-owning, cigar smoking part-time detective (with a new espresso machine) once again falls into a string of murders. This time, however, the killer is using the music of Hank Williams to drop his clues. I'll admit that ...

Lone Star Nation: The Epic Story of the Battle for Texas Independence5 reviews
H.W. Brands

Anchor, 2005

Putting the Story Back in History
Brands does a great job of weaving the lives of Austin, Santa Anna and others together in a compelling fashion. His vivid narrative style makes you forget you are reading history, but rather makes you feel you are sitting around a fireplace listening to a master storyteller perform his craft with grace and ease.

Lone Star Christmas ... And Other Gifts4 reviews
Diana Palmer, Joan Johnston

Silhouette, 1999

Typical Diana Palmer
This is a book with four short stories in it. The Joan Johnston ones are boring and not worth reading. My advice for the doctor who finds a pregnant woman crying in a closet - leave her there. The two Palmer ones are unrealistic in thier plots, but are fun to read. They are written in typical Diana Palmer style. If you like her style, then these two stories are for you.

Gone to Texas: A History of the Lone Star State9 reviews
Randolph B. Campbell

Oxford University Press, USA, 2004

Possibly one of the best books on comprehensive Texas history
This was the textbook for my Texas history class in college, and it was one of the few texts I kept for my own use. For history buffs and especially for those interested in Texas' unique history, this is a great book to have on your shelf.

Easy and Elegant Lone Star Quilts: All the Wow Without the Work!3 reviews
Shirley Stutz

C&T Publishing, 2005

Truly Easy Quilt
The title of this book says it all. I've made two quilts so far following the pattern in this book and they are beautiful, yet each looks quite different. The fabrics you choose make the difference. I'm a beginner quilter and I had no problem following the instructions. The pattern included in the book lets you make any size quilt you want. If you've always liked the lone star pattern but ...

L Is for Lone Star: A Texas Alphabet (Alphabet Series)3 reviews
Carol Crane

Sleeping Bear Press, 2001

Packed With Texas Trivia - Highly Recommended!
This book is part of Sleeping Bear Press' State Alphabet series. Now, some of these books need some liberal stretching to get 26 verses of relevant information. Not this one, though. We're talking Texas here. If there's one state that could easily fill an ABC book, it's the Lone Star State. Carol Crane has done a very nice job selecting a wide range of Texas locations, events, and people to use ...

Sandra Steffen

Silhouette, 2000

Couldn't put it down
When I first started reading Lone Star Wedding I was thinking good girl- bad guy. Wrong. This book had twist and turns that I didn't see coming. As I finished the book all I could think was "That was a great story-I can't wait until the next book".

The Fate of Texas: The Civil War and the Lone Star State (Civil War in the West)

The University of Arkansas Press, 2008

In its examination of a state too often neglected by Civil War historians, The Fate of Texas presents Texas as a decidedly Southern, yet in many ways unusual, state seriously committed to and deeply affected by the Confederate war effort in a multitude of ways. When the state joined the Confederacy and fought in the war, its fate was uncertain. The war touched every portion of the population and all aspects of life in Texas. Never before has a ...

Lone Star Politics2 reviews
Paul Benson, David Clinkscale, ...

Good Texas Gov't Book!
This is probably one of the few books that i personally like. It really has an in depth explanation of pretty much anything and everything that went on, government wise, in Texas.

Lone Star Politics:Tradition and Transformation in Texas
Ken Collier, Steven Galatas, ...

CQ Press, 2008

Texas is in a bit of a dilemma -- it is a rapidly growing state saddled with a constitution that was written by conservative farmers in 1876. Texas's government struggles to meet the needs of an increasingly diversified population and the challenges of an economy driven by large multi-national corporations, many on the cutting edge of the information age. How has Texas developed and flourished over the years, but failed to fully respond to these ...
