A real treasure, an intro marketing book with substance
I really like this book. There are around 10 intro marketing textbooks, and they're almost all either (co-)authored by Kotler, or shameless rip-offs of his books. Hats of to Roger Best for coming up with a book that's truly different. The approach is refreshingly down-to-earth, almost nerdy, including a lot of frameworks for financial or qualitative analysis that would be useful to any ...

excellent book for beginning stock investor
This is the second investing book that I've actually read. I've purchased many. I actually read The Millionaire Next Door and this one. This book was simple, easy to follow and easy to understand. I read it in two days while traveling, and I'm going to return to it over and over again as I venture on into the world of investing. I also ordered Jason's Mutual Fund guide as I am always ...

Very good for first exposure to financial markets
This book is not an advanced book on financial markets, but it is a good introductory book. I use this book for my undergraduate teaching. Both I and students are happy about the coverage of the book. It is well organized and well written. Improvements will be valuable in the derivatives markets and risk management areas.

A little gem of a book
This little book is a complete gem. It gets it's message across in a clear and humorous manner, never dull. It is a quick and fun read, and also presents a solid investment strategy. He proposes an investing "magic formula" based on two factors: return on captal and earnings yield. Of course, you can measure these factors in different ways. This is a solid value investing strategy, and it's ...

Inspiration for daytraders
I generally only read textbooks about trading. Statistics, technical analysis, calculus etc. However, this very entertaining collection of interviews may be my favorite and most informative read. The stories give re-assurance that an individual can succeed through their own studies, analysis and effort. If you read carefully between the lines, you can figure out how the best in the business ...

Not a good intro book
If anything, this book is only good for learning about financial institutions not covered in other intro finance books--extensive information on mortgage markets, the federal reserve, commercial banks, etc. The authors' explanations of financial calculations are obscure (obsessive use of subscripts and acronyms). Paragraphs are often wordy. For financial math, I would recommend: ...

Absolutely mindbreaking!!
Soros goes where nobody has ever gone before, he actually proposes a new paradigm that contradicts actual economic theory common sense, which can be empirically proved on an everyday basis. This new paradigm, based on his theory of reflexivity, helped me understand better how markets tend to behave sometimes, and will surely help every reader in the same way. Definately recommended for everyone ...

I reviewed this book for the publisher (prior edition)
I was a major peer reviewer for the publisher of "Bond Markets, Analysis and Strategies," and have used it several times (perhaps as many as 10 semesters) for both undergrads and MBAs. I have no incentive to give this book any particular rating, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EITHER PRACTITIONERS AND ACADEMICS, AS IT IS AN EXCELLENT TEXT! There are very few weaknesses, and I disagree with most of ...
