Irish Stew!6 reviews
Andrew M. Greeley

Forge Books, 2002

Not ashamed to admit I love this series...
If you are going to read any of the "Nuala and Dermot" books, start with the first one and do them in order. If you hate the first, it's OK to quit. I like them all, but then I like nearly 90 percent of Fr. Greeley's output, and over the decades I've probably read about 90 percent of his total. I am only an eighth Irish, have only been to the airport in Chicago, and no longer consider myself ...

Ancient Boats and Ships (Shire Archaeology)1 review
Sean Mcgrail

Shire, 2006

Great book
A short read providing excellent coverage of the topic. Although I bought it to read about ancient ships, I enjoyed the discussion of archaelogical methods the most.

Year 2000 Personal Computer Fix-It Guide3 reviews

Delmar Thomson Learning, 1998

Pretty good prepartion guide for you and your computer
This book, unlike others I checked out, actually tells you how this will affect your computer. As a network administrator, I found this book a useful preparation guide as it covers the computer, OS, Network OS, applications, etc. Other books on this subject tend to give you the "big" picture, as in this is what will happen to your bank, this is how you set up a corporate y2k project if you ...

Too Darn Hot : Writing About Sex Since (Global City Book)2 reviews

Persea Books, 1998

A priceless time capsule of American sexual culture!
TOO DARN HOT reads like a latter twentieth century time capsule of American sexual culture, packed with tales, poems, essays, criticism, and ravings by everyone from Alice Walker and Dorothy Allison to Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. Outrageously candid, deliciously witty, and often devastating, this smattering of carnal attitudes, insights, politics, and nostalgia travels down almost ...

Irish Gold24 reviews
Andrew M. Greeley

Thorndike Pr, 1995

GREAT story!
And not too sensual. Sure, there's the longing that goes with courtship, but we are spared the intimate details. If you love a good story, but prefer not to read about throbbing body parts, read this book. If you think good novels have to have sex, then keep looking cuz the details in this book are left to the reader's imagination. This is a nice mystery, lovable characters, and a great story ...

The Trireme Project: Operational Experience 1987-90, Lessons Learnt (Oxbow Monographs in Archaeology : No. 31)1 review

Oxbow Books Limited, 1993

Methods of Constructing a Fully-Functional Replica of an Ancient Greek Trireme
It is always fascinating to learn how ancient technologies worked--by trying them out. The authors of this volume describe their reconstruction of such a ship, which they named the OLYMPIAS. They used the ancient shell-first method of ship construction. Planks were fastened edge-to-edge by tenons. This method is superior to the more recent plank-on-frame method of wooden shipbuilding. Coates ...

The Catch and the Feast1 review
Joie McGrail, Bill McGrail

Weybright and Talley, 1969

My favorite kind of cookbook....
This is my favorite kind of cookbook. The authors intersperse their own stories about adventures in hunting and fishing with recipes from their own kitchen. The entire book is original in content and honest in its approach to food. Here, you'll find stories about harvesting, and recipes for, deer (venison), wild goose, pheasant, boar and bear, wild turkey, wild duck, small game, trout, ...

Irish Tiger: A Nuala Anne McGrail Novel (Nuala Anne McGrail Novels)8 reviews
Andrew M. Greeley

Forge Books, 2009

Hooray for the Irish and Father Greeley
For those of you familiar with the Nuala Ann McGrail novels, this installment in the series is top notch. If you have never read any of the "Irish _____" series, don't hesitate to give this a read. It reads very quickly as you can not put it down. Father Greeley keeps you on the edge of your seat with twist after twist. Just when you think it is winding up another curve ball is pitched and you ...

MRS EINSTEIN.15 reviews
Anna. McGrail

Doubleday, 1998

It's Certainly Different
If you're in the right mood for it, this story will just pick you up and carry you along. It covers a whole century, several continents, an ever-changing cast of characters, and all takes place just at the edges of major historical events. It will give you a different view of the breakthroughs in physics over the past one hundred years, and also give you an idea of what it must be like to live ...

Irish Love (Nuala Anne McGrail Novels)8 reviews
Andrew M. Greeley

Forge Books, 2003

Nuala and Dermot Michael go back to Ireland
Nuala Anne is suffering from post natal depression and in keeping with her character she has a pretty severe case. She gives up singing and doubts herself in everything. More disturbing, while on a walk through some ruins nearby, ...

Irish Cream : A Nuala Anne McGrail Novel (Nuala McGrail Mystery)12 reviews
Andrew M. Greeley, 2005

In Spite of short Shrift Reviews it's Super Good Reading
Even if his first 3, Nuala Anne, Irish Gold Books were more than exceptional; This is an engrossing story combining some of the good Father Greely's best characters. And surely isn't his the Irish gift of spinning a wondrous story when given the best cast of characters. After Dermot, his precious 3 childre his arwesome fey bewitching Lady Nuala Anne, who not only is sexy but can sing along with ...

Ancient Boats in Nw Europe: The Archaeology of Water Transport to Ad 1500 (Longman Archaeology Series)1 review
Sean McGrail

Longman Group United Kingdom, 1989

Best book for European maritime prehistory yet written.
The ideal book for the comprehensive background to the development of boats - uses examples from outwith Europe. Gets quite technical in parts, but you can always skip those bits to concentrate on the parts that interest you. Highly recommended, although it is expensive.

Ghostly Tales & Sinister Stories of Old Edinburgh1 review
Alan J. Wilson, Des Brogan, ...

Mainstream Publishing, 1991

A Fun And Fast Read!
This little novel is well worth its price for those interested in grim tales or Edinburgh in general. It's not high literature, but it's fun. There are a large number of stories -- some merely a paragraph, some many pages long -- giving quite a chilling survey of Edinburgh's past. There is one slight problem, though -- at least in the copy I have. The book is divided into two sections -- ...

The Compact Reader: Short Essays by Method and Theme3 reviews
Jane E. Aaron

Bedford/St. Martin's, 2002

WONDERFUL READER
I used this for years teaching developmental English. The book has fine, concise notes on the modes of writing, and it has CONCISE, one-paragraph examples of each type. Very clear. Gets the teaching right to the point for all concerned. Also the essays are short but punchy, even entertaining. The writers are all first class. For my style, it's a perfect fit.

So You're Going To Be A Dad41 reviews
Downey

Da Capo Press, 2000

Funny & Informative
I just finished reading this book as I am a expecting father T-Minus 8 weeks and counting. I found the book both funny and informative. I found the whole book quite positive and uplifting with his mix of humor and useful information. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would suggest to anyone that is or will be a father, provided they have a sense of humor about them. :-)

Irish Linen12 reviews

Forge Books/St. Martin's Press, 2007

Another Great Andrew Greeley book
Andrew Greeley is one of my favorite authors. His quirky characters live for me and Nuala Anne McGrail and her Dermitt and their children are some of my favorites. I have a real problem putting them down. I find the conbination of historical mysteries woven around a "contemporary" one fascinating. Please Father Greeley may I have some more.
