Laugh Yourself Out of the Parent Trap!
This anthology of real-life parenting experiences is a wonderful book. As a mother of four boys I enjoyed reading about how other parents deal with potty training, sickness, birthday parties and laundry. Apparently they use HUMOR because this book had me laughing out loud! Buy it, read it, share this book with other parents.

Crazy Aunt Purl's Drunk, Divorced, and Covered in Cat Hair: The True-Life Misadventures of a 30-Something Who ...30 reviews
Laurie Perry

HCI, 2007

Loved it - Laurie's story resonates!
I loved this book! I bought it (and a copy for a friend) after coming across her blog one day. I am happily married, enjoy my wine now and then and, like Laurie, am usually wearing black pants covered from the knees down in hair from my mostly-white cats. I like that this book is not just a rehash of her blog, and I like having all of her knitting "recipes" together in one place. ...

It was super, duper great!!! (Kid Review)
My Name is Jack and I'm 8 years old and I love to read. I read this book in three days because I just couldn't stop reading. I loved it because it was funny, surprising, and one of the best books I've read. My favorite part was when the boat sinks and Hiccup ends up in an underwater cave and finds the treasure of Grimbeard the Gastly. It's all about Pirates, Vikings and Dragons which I love. ...

Lisa's Airplane Trip9 reviews
Anne Gutman, Georg Hallensleben

Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2001

The best in the series
My 2 year old daughter loves this book, and so do my husband and I! The illustrations are colorful and entertaining, and the text is engaging and easy to understand. My daughter loves to read along with this book. I also recommend "Lisa In New York", but I didn't care for some of the others in the series. This book is great and I highly recommend it.

Riding Outside the Lines: International Incidents and Other Misadventures With the Metal Cowboy17 reviews
Joe Kurmaskie

Three Rivers Press, 2003

The Metal Cowboy's 2nd offering will not disappoint!
[...] A while back I reviewed Metal Cowboy by Joe Kurmaskie which I thoroughly enjoyed. Joe is an amazing writer with a flair for getting to the best of a situation or person and he always has a way of making me laugh out loud while reading his tales. After finishing Metal Cowboy I immediately went out and picked up the follow-up called Riding Outside the Lines. In Riding Outside the Lines ...

A Children's Classic!
A Children's Classic! My whole family loved it. This story had me laughing out loud, wondering if I could get Masonville library card, and starving for a plate of Chocolate and Marshmallow Bunk Beds and Swiss Cheese Moon Rocks. I haven't enjoyed a children's book this much since I first read "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" thirty years ago!

The Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll (New York Review Books Classics)9 reviews
Alvaro Mutis, Francisco Goldman

NYRB Classics, 2002

A Fatalist's Fantasia
Yes, I agree with the other reviewers who have asseverated that this is a great book. But they don't seem to want to spell out why exactly it is a great novel, or, rather, series of picaresque adventures. - Perhaps they're simply tired due to the 700 page literary trek. - But, come now, a great novel because of tramp steamers and the sea? While the sea is certainly the element in which Maqroll ...

Naked on the Page: The Misadventures of My Unmarried Midlife12 reviews
Jane Ganahl

Viking Adult, 2007

touching and tough
I woke up in the middle of the night and just had to pick up this book and dive in again despite the complaints from my spouse about lights on at 4AM. Jane Ganahl's writing is refreshingly straightforward. She speaks with humor and clarity about the fears and the joys of being a single woman who has reached midlife with plenty of experiences, accomplishments and relationships to be proud of ...

The Misadventures of Dreary and Naughty9 reviews
John LaFleur

Dragonfly Productions, 2003

Naughty but Nice
Our family loves these books. It's almost like a picture book series for teenagers. We found the first one in a comic book store in Salem, MA and have been anxiously awaiting the release of others ever since. My 14-year-old can totally relate to the characters and to the moral of the stories. She shared them with her grandmother and we ended up getting them for grandma for her birthday as ...

The Case Of Stolen Time - The Misadventures Of Inspector Moustachio11 reviews
Wayne Madsen

Community Press, 2007

A very enjoyable chapter book to read with the kids!
My two older boys (8 & 6) and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. What a great premise for a story that celebrates the wisdom and problem solving skills of our children. I really liked the fact that it takes what would otherwise appear to be an ordinary family heirloom (grandfather's magnifying glass) & creates an adventure from it. In today's technology age this is a welcome retreat and allows ...

A wonderful comedy of errors!
When Brenden James' thoughts' on his travels around the States get turned into a book, which becomes a best seller, he never expected the sequel to be a horrible flop. Now, touring the British Isles, he is clueless as well as suffering from writers block on how to write another best selling novel which is the only way to save his writing career. After all, how much can be said about old people ...

How to Speak Dragonese (Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III)
It's always hard to find a book that will keep my 8yrs interested. But from the first chapter to the last he enjoyed the story. The characters and their antics he said where great. He asked me to order the other books in the group even before he finished this one.

Adventures and misadventures in Thailand
Reviewed by Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views (12/07) "A Broad Abroad in Thailand" promised to be a book that I could relate to in several ways. Being an expat myself, I always find what other expats have to say about their new countries fascinating; I've always considered myself a broad and I absolutely adore Thailand. So at a first glance I found it hard to imagine that the book ...

The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin: A Decidedly Dysfunctional Dragon7 reviews
Jim Friedman

HarperCollins Children's Books, 1999

Mind twister
A water spewing dragon is a mind twister for both an adult and a kid. I loved this children's tale and plan on sending it to the kids I know. The illustrations are wonderful. It's the kind of book you can read to a child several times in different voices --put on a show.

Jewish Thighs on Broadway: Misadventures of a Little Trouper8 reviews
Penny Orloff

1st Books Library, 2003

Funny, insightful, deeply moving
This book is successful on several levels - I read it twice in succession. The first reading dazzles with verbal gymnastics and wit, outrageous situations, fascinating characters. The writing is tight and muscular, like the body of the dancer-heroine, and reads like lightning. But there is a deeper, richer, denser story that beckons underneath all the flash and glamor of a meticulously-detailed ...

A Room For The Summer: Adventure, Misadventure, And Seduction In The Mines Of The Coeur D'Alene7 reviews
Fritz Wolff

University of Oklahoma Press, 2005

More than a personal memoir.
This is a story that doesn't fit into any typical genre. Its a story about life with a personal memoir and some rich history as the back drop. The author writes in a style that is fresh and engaging. He uses vocabulary and dialogue that, unfortunately, no one encounters any more. This a rich story and a must read.

Curious Misadventures of Feltus Ovalton, The6 reviews
Jo Treggiari

Lobster Press, 2006

This book has something for everyone!
At first, when reading "The Curious Misadventures of Feltus Ovalton," I found myself comparing it to other stories like Harry Potter, A Wrinkle in Time, etc and I kept trying to predict what would happen next based on those other stories. Pretty soon, though, I was so immersed in the characters and their adventures, that all I thought about was what was coming on the next page. I love to root ...

Eliezer Sobel

Santa Monica Press, 2008

Fast forward flash back of the best kind
A wonderful ride of a read full of laughs, permission to be, reminders to remember, and the authentic poignancy of truthfulness. Sobel's honesty is a healing in itself that few manage to communicate so seemingly effortlessly in the midst of a tale of so much trying out. Whether you are filling in gaps in your journey or find yourself reminiscing over your own hilarious and horrible times had, ...
