I'm a beginner runner. The message is very simple but it works: do the hard days hard and do the easy days easy. By applying this guidelines, I cut my easy 5K run (70% heart rate reserve) from 35:30 to 32:40,working 15 miles a week during 6 weeks. Amazing !!

Very informative - almost too much
As with other Friel books I've read, there is an abundance of outstanding, detailed and reasoned information in this book. Probably more detail than any non-professional athlete needs, but it is an outstanding resource. I think it is well worth the money for someone who wants to understand the physiology and theory regarding workouts in order to maximize his/her fitness.

I gave this book to my son along with a box of civil war soldiers and he has loved it. He reads the book, then reenacts the battles with the toy soldiers. It has really sparked his interest in history. All the books in this series have been great and he has enjoyed them all.
