Bedtime masterpiece...if you follow the secrets
My two sons (ages 5 and 4) beg me to read this book several times a week. It is one of their favorite bedtime stories. The first time I read this book they didn't care much for it. That's because I made several mistakes that are very important to making this book fun after repeated readings. Here's the secrets: 1. Imitate Grover's voice. The mistake is to make Grover sound too deep. He's ...

Monster Night at Grandma's House
Richard Peck

Dial, 2003

Two world-renowned children's book creators, Richard Peck and Don Freeman, collaborated on this picture book-the evocative tale of a boy who takes on the monster lurking in his grandma's home. This was one of Don Freeman's last books-after Corduroy, after Dandelion, after he'd won a Caldecott Honor for Fly High Fly Low. It is novelist Richard Peck's only picture book. He wrote Monster Night about twenty-five years before he won a Newbery Honor ...

Another Monster at the End of This Book (Sesame Street Ser.)23 reviews

Golden Books, 1999

Great book for little people
I had and loved this book's sister, 'Monster at the end of this book', as a child. I had the book for my kids which made it through my first two unscathed. When my last child (2 yr old) go a hold of it, that was the end. So this board book was a great solution. I got it's 'sister' in the board book format also. I just love the drama that Grover (and Elmo) provide in this book.

Skinny-Dipping at Monster Lake (Aladdin Fiction)1 review
Bill Wallace

Aladdin, 2004

A Really Awesome Review
I liked the book because it's funny and has a very weird twist at the end. Kent thinks the monster is real, but turns out it's not. When he and his friends fish they see headlights (A.K.A the eyes.) When one of the smartest kids in the group finds out that there's a sub in the lake they go for help. But my favorite part is when they skinny dip in the lake and their friends call them "cottontails".

The Monster At The End Of This Book A Little Golden Book2 reviews

Western Publishing Company, 1971

Great, classic book
I was delighted to see this book still in print. Totally forgot about it until I saw it at a store recently.. I LOVED it as a kid, and any kid will continue to do so (especially with a well-animated reader) Grover's begs and pleads for you not to continue will ensure that it gets read to the end.

The Monster at Our Door: The Global Threat of Avian Flu15 reviews
Mike Davis

Holt Paperbacks, 2006

Scientifically learned but accessible and very useful
The free market approach to procuring vaccine when signs of epidemics of Influenza A arise has been disastrous, Davis shows. In the U.S. epidemics in 1957 and 1968, companies could not manufacture enough vaccine in time to prevent it from spreading and killing tens of thousands of elderly people, pregnant women, etc. Vaccines for infectious diseases are very unprofitable for pharmaceutical ...

Little Monster at School
Little Monster goes to school, where he makes new friends and learns new things. Yally, one of his new friends, isn't a very happy monster - he's not happy with ANYthing! Until, that is, he discovers he's actually GOOD at something - drawing - and he becomes a little less grumpy after that. Little Monster's day at school is just like any other young student's day. His mom walks him to ...

Gila Monsters Meet You At the Airport (Reading Rainbow Book)1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Aladdin, 1990

A delightful children's book on moving to Arizona
"Gila Monsters" has to be one of my favorite children's books. It addresses the fear of a young boy from New York, whos "parents are moving out west." His friend told him that "Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport," and he knows it's true, because he read it in a book. When he finally arrives at the airport, he meets another young boy who is moving to New York and filled with fears, ...

Golden ooks, 1996

Another monster is Fantastic!
If you have read the first book, The Monster at the End of this Book, you will absolutely LOVE this sequel. The child I read it to loves it so much he wants his own copy, but not in board book because he is 5. It is a great book for children and adults alike.

At Stake: Monsters and the Rhetoric of Fear in Public Culture
Edward Ingebretsen

University Of Chicago Press, 2003

Anyone who watches the evening news is all too familiar with how the word "monster" is used to describe acts of violence. In this book, Edward Ingebretsen sets out to discover what is really at stake when we turn someone into a "monster." The monster, he finds, serves a moralizing function in our culture, making exaggerated examples of particular evildoers in order to reaffirm prevailing standards of behavior and personal conduct.

A modern look at monsters1 review
Daniel Cohen

Dodd, Mead, 1970

Cryptozoology
I have read much better books/ presentations of the facts or sightings on the " monsters" of crypto, and the "mysteries" of atlantis etc. Most of the topics were presented in boring, unethusiastic coverage. It also read as tho it was a rehash of other writers' material, to me. It's an okay book, if you want an addition to your cryptozoology library.
