good!
it was a really confusing book at first, like all of Chuck Pahlaniuks storys, however it came together and had a strong ending!

The Monster at the End of this Book (Big Little Golden Book)169 reviews
Jon Stone

Golden Books, 2004

Spoilers!
So it turns out that the "monster" is actually the protagonist which, while having shades of postmodern antihero angst that wil reverberate strongly with fans of, say, Kafka or Burroughs, really threw me for a loop as a kid. My two year old, on the other hand, has no problem with this conceit, and wants me to read it to him regularly. He'll understand how cruel this all is when he get a ...

The Monster of Florence105 reviews
Douglas Preston

Grand Central Publishing, 2009

Just let yourself be surprised by this unusual true crime story
I suppose I was expecting something ala Ann Rule in the way of a true crime novel, but what I got was totally different and fascinating and surprising. I read the 1* and 2** reviews - they seem to be bogged down in disappointment that it wasn't what they expected instead of giving themselves over to a rather amazing, too-incredible-to-be-fiction story. I'm a terrible book snob, so it's rare for ...

Go Away, Big Green Monster!69 reviews

Little, Brown and Company, 1992

You have to love a fun monster book!
This is a great book for a child under about 7 years. In a sense, it's a flat pop up book. The monster changes with every page turned, which makes a kid's smile get bigger and bigger until the finale. Not a long book. My 5 year old loves it.

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2)112 reviews
Rick Riordan

Miramax, 2007

Another excellent title by Rick Riodan
My nine-year old loves these books. We used to ask him to read in the morning instead of watching television. With the Percy Jackson books he doesn't need to be asked. I read with him on the first two books and they are very good books. He has read three of the four books since September and is into the fourth book now. Great series. Hope that there is more to follow.

The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster105 reviews
Bobby Henderson

Villard, 2006

Hilarious
This has got to be one of the funniest books I have ever read. It has the mindset of "if yours is true, why isn't mine?" Fantastic read. Just make sure you know: It's not a hardcover book! It's a paperback with a picture of a hardcover book on the front, making the book even less serious. Inside, there are commentaries and letters written to the author in reaction to his original writing, so ...

The Monsters of Templeton68 reviews
Lauren Groff

Voice, 2008

Mary Shelley meets William Faulkner meets James Michener meets...Sophie Kinsella?
Woohoo! I won't bother to summarize the plot because that's been done, but I'll endorse & describe the book. The Monsters of Templeton is a little bit... ...mystery novel, ghost story, fantasy tale, complex historical drama, and chicklit (in a positive sense)... all rolled into one. It's a LOT of fun. The writing is OUTSTANDING (the physical descriptions make you part of the ...

A book students like to read
I am a high school English teacher and I have struggled with finding books students would read. I found just such a book with Monster. I had several who took the book home the first night and finished it. My students begged for more reading time in class because they didn't get to read as much as they wanted to the night before.

Tickle Monster11 reviews
Josie Bissett

Compendium, 2008

Great way to end the day!
Although we've only had this book for a week, Tickle Monster has already become THE favorite after school AND bedtime story for our daughters (ages 5 and 7). They love the adorable illustrations and can hardly wait to turn the page! It's a good thing we always read this book on the floor--the girls are always having so much fun and giggling so hard during the story, I'm sure they would just ...

Monster Island: A Zombie Novel80 reviews
David Wellington

Running Press, 2006

Loved the book
I like watching movies with Zombies in them... end of the world as we know it, new threats to survival, being eatin alive and changed into one them. With the movies you can just get lost in the simple details of trying to escape and stay alive. Didn't really know what to think a book about Zombies would be like so I gave it a shot. This is a very entertaining book. I would read it late at ...

Green Eyed Monster (Matinee Romances)2 reviews
Gill Mcknight

Bold Strokes Books, 2008

Fun! Just really fun!
The second book by author Gill McKnight is a most enjoyable read. From Back Cover: There is a lot more to kidnapping than financial analyst Mickey Rapowski ever imagined. Mickey has a chip on her shoulder - she's been cheated out of a small fortune by corporate giant Victoria Gresham. In an irrational attempt at revenge, Mickey kidnaps Gresham's girlfriend, Ginette Felstrom. A ...

Book is great. It's everything I thought it would be. Funny how blacks from that era of time all parrallel each other on so many ways.

Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual: Roleplaying Game Core Rules, 4th Edition56 reviews
Wizards RPG Team

Wizards of the Coast, 2008

A Sold Buy
I believe this title to be a sold buy. Most people are distressing over the fluff that was left out of the book; I rather like this approach. It gives me as a DM the ability to customize most of my monster selection to what I need. This title gives you everything to run monsters. Thats what it is a monster manual. The stats are streamlined into easy to read and run stat blocks, and the ...

Pretty Monsters: Stories5 reviews
Kelly Link

Viking Juvenile, 2008

Unparalleled talent
In a dual review of her previous collections, Stranger Things Happen and Magic for Beginners a couple of years ago, I wrote the following about Kelly Link: "...for the last decade, [Link] has demonstrated an unparalleled mastery of the short story form in every sense of that word. In retrospect, to say she has mastered the form is perhaps an understatement: not only has she tamed this ...

Leonardo, the Terrible Monster (Ala Notable Children's Books. Younger Readers (Awards))30 reviews

Tuna salad!
Mo Willems is one of the best writers in children's literature today. My 4 year old daughter loves all of the books. This one is terribly clever and fun for parents and kids alike.

Glad Monster, Sad Monster9 reviews
Anne Miranda, Ed Emberley

L,B Kids, 1997

Monsters can be Silly too!
The book is thirty pages long in dark black pages with bright happy and sad colorful faces with two holes for the eyes and the larger shape opening for the nose. In the front of the book is the diagram that explains the steps to use the flaps. A child who is not yet able to read will know how to follow these self-explanatory steps with cute pictures. First the book gets opened with the flap being ...
