So it turns out that the "monster" is actually the protagonist which, while having shades of postmodern antihero angst that wil reverberate strongly with fans of, say, Kafka or Burroughs, really threw me for a loop as a kid.

You have to love a fun monster book!
This is a great book for a child under about 7 years. In a sense, it's a flat pop up book. The monster changes with every page turned, which makes a kid's smile get bigger and bigger until the finale. Not a long book. My 5 year old loves it.

Another excellent title by Rick Riodan
My nine-year old loves these books. We used to ask him to read in the morning instead of watching television. With the Percy Jackson books he doesn't need to be asked. I read with him on the first two books and they are very good books. He has read three of the four books since September and is into the fourth book now. Great series. Hope that there is more to follow.
