Mosaic26 reviews
Gayle Lynds

HarperCollins Publishers Ltd, 2000

Nobody Does it Better than Gayle Lynds
MOSAIC is a fast written, well plotted international thriller that will have you burning the midnight oil as you zip through all of the twists and turns in Ms. Lynds fine book. It's also a woman in peril story, a kind of romance and a bit of a mystery. Ms. Lynds has packed a lot of craft into MOSAIC, but that's not surprising, she's one heck of a writer and one heck of a character painter. ...

Les Miserables8 reviews
Victor Hugo

Mosaic Press (NY), 1999

"Les Miserables" : Victor Hugo's grestest achievement
If you are the kind of person thirsting for the image of Man as a being to whom nothing is impossible - and to whom everything great is possible, then "Les Miserables" is the novel for you. With a few exceptions, such as Ayn Rand, there is no writer in world literature who has portrayed such a grand, noble, sublime and inspiring image of man as Victor Hugo. In "Les Miserables", Hugo has given ...

Garden Mosaics5 reviews
Becky Paton

North Light Books, 2004

highly recommended
if you are like me, you might own several mosaic books. This one is one of my favorites! Here's why: Clear, concise directions with good pictures-most projects could be done by a beginner but there are also MANY projects to make a more advanced artist happy. Great variation of mosaics-this author covers some mosaics styles I've never seen in other books. Like making your own wire mesh base ...

Jill MacKay

An inspirational book for your bookshelf
This book is a great read for aspiring mosaic artists and for beginners. The beautiful pictures show what is possible, the text is well written, and the "how-to" part is easy to follow. This is a book for those who want to venture beyond the commonplace in mosaics. Lena

This is the type of book that once you pick it you can't put it down. And on top of that, you keep finding yourself reading it over and over again.

Mixed-Media Mosaics: Techniques and Projects Using Polymer Clay Tiles, Beads & Other Embellishments33 reviews
Laurie Mika

North Light Books, 2007

Beautiful finished project, easy to follow directions
I purchased this book to make a mirror for a 6th grade class project. I've never worked with polymer clay before so I was a little nervous. The directions were easy to follow and the end result was amazing. Our family plans on doing a mirror at our next family reunion for the grandparents. It was fun, easy and once you start you'll want to keep making more and trying different techniques.

The Art of Pebble Mosaics5 reviews
Maggy Howarth

Search Press, 1994

Well done
Of the three books I bought on pebble mosaics this one was the best. There is a history of "floor" mosaics, a detailed discussion, with drawings, of the shape and placement of stones, a lesson on drawing designs to scale, site excavation and preparation. The two step by step projects, a "threshold" mosaic and a dining patio, are both beautiful and do-able. The mosaic on the cover is so ...

A Mosaic of Believers: Diversity and Innovation in a Multiethnic Church
Gerardo Marti

Indiana University Press, 2005

"Anyone wishing to gain a deeper understanding of American evangelical diversity, of the emergent church movement, and of intriguing congregational efforts to bridge ethnic divides, will want to read this book." -- Christian Scholar's Review "Mosaic" in Southern California is one of the largest multiethnic congregations in America, and also one of the most innovative. This book takes us inside this unusual church. It shows how the ...

Jericho Mosaic4 reviews
Edward Whittemore

W W Norton & Co Inc, 1987

One of the best novels of our time
This is one of the best novels you've never heard of. Why Whittemore is a forgotten writer whose books have gone out of print is a mystery to me. "Jericho Mosaic" is a spy story of sorts set in the historical context of Israel and its neighbors from World War II to the early 1980s. The principal character is the Runner, an Israeli who becomes a deep-cover spy living in Syria and living the ...

Italian Pavements: Patterns in Space4 reviews
Kim Williams

Anchorage Press, 1997

Ms. Williams gives the stone lovers among us a gift.
This stunning look into pavement design of the past 2000 years is brilliantly executed--from the detailed drawings to the in-depth analysis of mathematical principles and design principles/patterns, this book is a treat for my eyes and my mind. In working on my PhD in the stone and paving methods of Rome (and beyond), I've found Ms. Williams book fills a hole in academia left vacant for far ...

Mosaic: A Chronicle of Five Generations5 reviews
Diane Armstrong

St. Martin's Press, 2001

Simply the best Holocaust narrative.
I absolutely loved "Mosaic: A Chronicle of 5 Generations". I have read many Holocaust memoirs & oral histories, but none have moved me as Diane Armstrong's book has. The strength of "Mosaic" is it's breadth and it's protagonists, the author's family. The central family, that of Daniel & Lieba Baldinger & their 11 children is augmented by cousins on the maternal side (the Spira's) as well as the ...

Rat Medicine: And Other Unlikely Curatives5 reviews
Lauren B. Davis

Mosaic Press (NY), 1999

A book to be read and reread
Review Lauren Davis' Rat Medicine & Other Unlikely Curatives is an astounding collection of twenty stories that slowly work upon the mind and the imagination of the reader. Timothy Findley is right in saying, "Here lies buried treasure." These stories deserve to be read and still more they deserve to be reread. That's where the treasure is, where the rat medecine starts to work, where the ...

Beyond the Basics: Mosaics (Beyond the Basics (Sterling Publishing))4 reviews
Elizabeth DuVal

Sterling/Chapelle, 2004

Wonderful!
I love this book! It contains many gorgeous pique assiette (recycled broken china) projects, as well as some using seashells. Best of all, the projects are beautiful but not overwhelming (i.e., a beginner should be able to master them), and they shouldn't take anywhere near as much time or money as most projects would, yet you'd be proud to give or display them.

Faded Mosaic: The Emergence of Post-Cultural America4 reviews
Christopher Clausen

Ivan R. Dee, Publisher, 2000

America, the graveyard of cultures
This book will change the way you think about contemporary American society. With acid wit and one arresting phrase after another, Christopher Clausen shows that the ferocious debate over multiculturalism misses the point. Culture is disappearing in America. Far from being multicultural, America has been a "graveyard of cultures." Ethnic studies programs in American universities "dot the ...

Easy Mosaics for Your Home and Garden4 reviews
Sarah Donnelly

North Light Books, 2001

An "easy" mosaic book that really IS easy....
"Easy Mosaics for Your Home and Garden" is inspiring. In a fun and easy to follow style, the book explains in words and pictures how to create a number of beautiful mosaic projects both for indoors and the garden. The instructions are clear and photos very helpful. The author makes mosaic art non-intimidating, by using a non-fussy easy clean-up approach. I have had a lot of fun using the book as ...

The Messiah of Laguardia4 reviews
Elisha Porat

Mosaic Press (NY), 1997

Provoking writing
In "The Messiah of LaGuardia" one meets a simple auto-body worker and reserve soldier who tries to save his country from itself. "At the Little Bridge Below Ufana" presents a poignant love triangle complicated by the mysterious military death of the husband. "The Three Stages of Perfection" portrays the efforts of a commune (kibbutz) member to enthuse his comrades with his own quixotic ...
