Primer of Diagnostic Imaging with CD-ROM1 review
Ralph Weissleder, Jack Wittenberg, ...

Mosby, 2006

Every resident should have one
I own 3rd edition and the preordered 4th edition arrived yesterday. I believe every resident should have this book. However, if you already have 3rd edition, you don't need to buy the new one. There is very little revision and the companion MRI animation CD (prepared by two residents) is much inferior to the "MRI made easy" for beginner. Also, there are serious mistakes on page 1023. The ...

Nuclear Medicine: The Requisites, Third Edition (Requisites in Radiology)9 reviews
Harvey A. Ziessman, Janis P. O'Malley, ...

Mosby, 2005

Competes with Mettler
This is a new edition. Compared to Mettler this probably has a greater range of coverage. Both books are very good. Supplement with PET books like PET/CT: A Case-based Approach by Conti (this may be too expensive for a resident) or PET and PET/CT: A Clinical Guide by Lin (less expensive).

Breast Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)2 reviews
Emily Conant, Cecilia Brennecke

Mosby, 2006

Moderately helpful
As mentioned in the prior review, the pictures are small and the findings can be difficult to see. I also agree that there is too much quality control in the first section -- I wish I had the time I spent on that back. The book seems to emphasize discussion over case recognition, which wasn't what I was hoping for. Then again, a fair amount of mammography is how you manage a finding, so maybe ...

Physical Diagnosis Secrets: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access (Secrets)2 reviews
Salvatore Mangione

Mosby, 2007

absolutely great!
What can I say? This is, in my humble opinion, the best book in the secret series. It can easily be used as the sole resource for this subject. While not as extensive as Sapira or DeGowin, it covers more material than Bates or similar. I also think the inclusion of some EBM with sensitivity, LR etc. is a very good idea. While not as extensive as McGee in this regard, it gives one a good start in ...

Mosby's Diagnostic and Laboratory Test Reference16 reviews
Kathleen Deska Pagana, Timothy J. Pagana

Mosby, 2006

Excellent!
This book is a lifesaver. I work in Pre-Admission testing, and need to review lab tests all the time. The book is clear and easy to use. I like the lists of what high and low values can indicate.

General and Vascular Ultrasound: Case Review Series (Case Review)3 reviews
William D. Middleton

Mosby, 2007

Best of the Case Review series
This is definitely the best one out of the series. The pictures are excellent, often including labels to help the beginning resident get a grasp of viewing U/S anatomy. Each case is succintly presented with an excellent disccusion. The case selection is also fantastic, as it covers the important topics with the exclusion of OB/GYN (covered in it's own seperate series). All the info in this book ...

Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests25 reviews
Kathleen Deska Pagana, Timothy J. Pagana

Mosby, 2005

Perfect for Med School
I purchased this book after looking at a friend's copy. Its great for figuring out what test results actually mean (especially for CBCs and BMPs). It breaks down every test, what its used for, when to order it - and what it means when high or low. Great reference for anyone in the medical field. ps -I saw 3 copies of this book in the ICU the other day...

Head & Neck Imaging: Case Review Series2 reviews
David M. Yousem, Ana Carolina B. S. da Motta

Mosby, 2005

Head & Neck CASE REVIEWS
Useful for getting hold of those difficult to find tips and bits of info not so readily found in reference texts. This book has a friendly style, is quick to use, and as a case review book, gives you a good taste of the spectrum of ENT radiology. It also offers limited but useful references to supplement the short text given for each case.

Genitourinary Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)2 reviews
Ronald J. Zagoria, William W. Mayo-Smith, ...

Mosby, 2006

It worked for me.
I went through the case review series for the boards and thought they were great. Some were better than others, it's true - but this was one of the good ones. All I can surely say is that this was the only dedicated GU book I used (with a quick review of the Requisites)and did well on the GU section. Please post feedback on this review.

Merrill's Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures (3 Volume Set)
This 3-volume atlas set is great for anyone entering a Radiologic technology program (i.e x-ray techs). excellent Q.M. summary

Systematic presentation of Neuroradiology
Ann Osborn is one of the most amazing Neuroradiologists for her knowledge and ability to entertain, as a guest lecturer. Her book is well organized by presenting material in a clear, concise method with excellent photographs, illustrations and summary boxes. Topics cover everything from trauma, stroke to intra-axial and extra-axial tumors. The spine is also covered, very well. This book is ...

Cardiac Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)2 reviews
Gautham Reddy, Robert Steiner

Mosby, 2005

Another strong addition to the series
The Case Review Series may be the most useful books I have used during my residency. They have been enormously helpful in preparing for boards and just learning cases. This cardiac addition is no exception. I'm a little disappointed by the publisher going to a thinner stock paper (several times I accidently turned 2 pages which spoiled the next case) but other than that it's very deserving of ...
