The Leaves of Autumn: Real Stories about Real Mothers-in-law.4 reviews
Gerald Mitchell

AuthorHouse, 2000

Simply Excellent/Adult reading
Mr. Mitchell reminds me of a painter who paints with bold colours, firm brush strokes, and a sharp sense of style on a canvas primed with melancholy sepia tones. In this story, the author skillfully weaves commentary on the human condition, on the history of an era still close to our own times, and on the hearts and minds of a remarkable cast of characters. Lucid writing, vivid dialogue, and ...

Olivia Slaughter, Jean Kubelun

Dog Ear Publishing, LLC, 2008

AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE FOR ONE OF LIFE'S MOST CHALLENGING ROLES
Life as a Mother-in-Law is an essential guide to understanding the complexities and emotional pitfalls of being a mother-in-law, a role almost every woman takes sometime in her life. Through historic perspective and the captivating personal stories of dozens of women, the authors discuss why a child's ...

How to Survive Your Marriage by Traveling: Mother-in-Laws, Shopping, and Baby Talk, Oh My!2 reviews
Dominick A. Miserandino

iUniverse, Inc., 2004

Great travel book and funny too
The title of this book should be "Fun, Fun, and More Fun." Mr. Miserandino has succeeded in introducing a great mother-in-law into a travelling tale starring his wife, great locations, and great food. This is a funny book but also a treasure trove of information about popular travel destinations. Even though you may have visited these places, the author presents the places in a different light ...

Mrs. Hornstien7 reviews
Fredrica Wagman

Wheeler Pub Inc, 1997

One of the best books i've ever read
This should be mandatory reading material for young women! A very short book packed with precious insight. The advice contained in this book is millions of times worth its price. Absolutely wonderful. I rushed to the store and bought an extra copy for my sister. I could write 50 more sentences and still not be able to convey the tremendous impression this book has made on me. Enjoyable ...

Mother-in-Law3 reviews
Cub McCallister

King of Mars Publications, 2006

Another great book
Cub McCallister has done it again. I was hoping for the sequel to "3 Dates" but Cub decided to go a different route. "Mother-in-Law" is a book you must get if you enjoy murder/mysteries. "Mother-in-Law" is another great read from a great storyteller. I enjoyed the book so much that I finished it in 2 days. Cub is definitely my favorite author.

Battleground: One Mother's Crusade, the Religious Right, and the Struggle for Control of Our Classrooms1 review
Stephen Bates

Poseidon Pr, 1993

Very Well-Written
This is a remarkably well-written account of a story that was far more complex than the lawsuit headlines. The author sensitively recounts the positions of all sides in the controversy without making judgments so that readers find themselves empathizing with points of view they may otherwise have rejected out of hand. I read this as part of a law school course, and I'm glad I did. I've ...

Death in Childbirth: An International Study of Maternal Care and Maternal Mortality 1800-19502 reviews
Irvine Loudon

Oxford University Press, USA, 1993

A monumental study.
This is an utterly stunning work that should be required reading for all midwives, obstetrician-gynecologists, feminists of all persuasions--anybody involved in the health care of women. Not only does it take the wind out of the sails of those who believe childbirth is without consequences (part of the natural history of natural childbirth is maternal death), but it demonstrates how the ...

The Bipolar Dementia Art Chronicles: How a Manic-depressive Artist Survives Being the Primary Caregiver for ...5 reviews
Lynne Taetzsch

Booklocker.com, 2005

Caregiving with Grace, Guilt, Grandchildren . . . and Love
Every year I receive dozens of books to review that are memoirs about taking care of elderly parents, spouses and those with various disabilities. Knowing that I, too, have an elderly parent, I embrace these books as a way to better appreciate what the future holds for me. The Bipolar Dementia Art Chronicles turned my expectations on their head and made me laugh, chortle, smile and sigh. ...

Battleground: One Mother's Crusade, the Religious Right, and the Struggle for Our Schools2 reviews
Stephen Bates

Henry Holt & Co (P), 1994

Hot issue, Even hand
Stephen Bates must have invested three or four lives of time interviewing the original participants and digging up the actual letters and documents of this highly complex series of interconnected events. No, it is not out of date. The flaming issues of that date are merely the warning flickering of huge blasts of fire still to come. Scopes I was had nothing on this. At the same time his balance ...

Mothers-in-Law and Daughters-in-Law: Understanding the Relationship and What Makes Them Friends or Foe1 review
Deborah M. Merrill

Praeger Publishers, 2007

WELL-RESEARCHED BY AN EDUCATED PROFESSIONAL WOMAN
A perusal of published lit-reviews on MIL / DIL relationships leaves one wanting. . . this new 2007 publication is the first worthwhile read that I have encountered. . . citations of what publications exist are included in the author's text. Although the author does not indicate such, it reads like a doctoral dissertation. Highly recommended for psychotherapy professionals and those in the human ...

What No One Tells the Bride: Surviving the Wedding, Sex After the Honeymoon, Second Thoughts, Wedding Cake ...88 reviews
Marg Stark

Hyperion, 1998

Reply to What Have You Done For Me Lately
I read What No One Tells the Bride a while ago and was shocked when I read the review titled "What Have You Done for Me Lately." Let me quote what comes straight after "To this day, her husband does not know about the fling" on page 48. "Now, I'm not recommending a fling as the learning experience is was for Yvonne. But among the brides I interviewed for the book, Yvonne's experience is not ...

The Queen and Di1 review
Ingrid Seward

Thorndike Press, 2001

A Good View of British Royalty
The Queen and Di is a good source of information about British Royalty--their day to day lives, their likes and dislikes. I appreciate that the focus is not entirely on the late and former Princess of Wales, but includes historical backgound as well as facts concerning more recent events in the lives of the royal family.

Just Call Me Mom: Practical Steps to Becoming a Better Mother-In-Law1 review
Mary Tatum

Christian Publications, 1994

Great Gift!
A friend loaned me her copy of this book when my daughter became engaged ... and I loved it so much, I hand copied some of the highlights to keep handy for future review! Thankfully, I found amazon.com and purchased my own copy ... and purchased two more to pass on to friends who are becoming mother-in-laws. Truly a must read and reference book as our mothering roles change with our children.

The Mother in Law (Classical Texts)1 review
Terence

Aris & Phillips, 1990

Funny, radical and entertaining
Won't bother with a typical review, the profs have said it all already. There's really only one important thing to point out -- that this play is still funny, still disturbing, still radical, and still entertaining. The plot twist at the end, which resolves the major conflict, is rather unsettling and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. But it's also so weirdly coincidental that, somehow, you ...

My Miserable Mother-In-Law1 review
D. M. Campbell

Vantage Pr, 2000

Way too Funny!
A riot. I really could relate to this author. I have a Mother-in-Law who could be her sister! Everyone should grab a copy and send it to their friends who are hounded by their Mother-in-Laws. I bought this copy for my girlfriend who is getting married!

Danger: Mother-In-Law Ahead (Proceed with Caution!)1 review
Lashonda Jackson-holmes, Christy D. Buie

Leathers Publishing, 2005

J's Review
I read this book yesterday when I was at the beauty shop and the cover happen to catch my attention. I thought it was kind of funny at first so I picked it up and proceeded to read it and I could not put it down. By the time I finished getting my hair done I had read the whole book, it was really a great book. I have never had to deal with mother-in-law drama but if I ever do I will definitely ...

The Daughter-in-Law Rules: 101 Surefire Ways to Manage (and Make Friends with) Your Mother-In-Law!37 reviews
Sally Shields

Outskirts Press, 2008

Buy this before your MIL becomes MILDEW
If (unlike me) your relationship with your mother-in-law hasn't reached the point of no return, I highly recommend this book. Sally gives great, albeit humorous, tips on how to manage your mother-in-law in the hopes of preventing a MILDEW (Mothers-In-Law Do Everything Wrong) outbreak. If I'd read Sally's book 10 years ago, I'm sure it would have helped. If you've already got MILDEW, though, ...

Honor Thy Father and Mother: Filial Responsibility in Jewish Law and Ethics (The Library of Jewish law and ...1 review
Gerald J. Blidstein

Ktav Pub Inc, 1975

worth reading
though not as practical as I imagined from the title - but paradoxically, the book explains its own impracticality, by pointing out that given the variety of possible parent/child conflicts, it isn't really possible for halacha to address most of them. Nevertheless, the book raises a few interesting points: *pointing out the difference between appropriate behavior in private and in public. ...
