One Enchanted Evening7 reviews
Mark Moulton Kimball

Ideals Children's Books, 2004

I LOVE this book.... and so do my children
Whenever I ask my girls(ages 7 & 5) to go get my favorite book to read to them, this is the one they grab, and they are right. I absolutely love this book. I have read it to every child I've had a chance to. I have read it to adults as well. The message is to beautiful, and true. The illistations drew me to this book, and the story keeps me coming back, time and time again. I look forward to ...

The Story of Jumping Mouse15 reviews
John Steptoe

Lothrop Lee & Shepard, 1984

The Story of Juming Mouse
John Steptoe's 40-page illustrated version of The Story of Jumping Mouse is a Native American legend of a Magic Frog who gives his jumping legs to a discouraged young mouse that had recently set out on a quest -- a journey to a far-off land. The frog also tells Jumping Mouse to remember three words -- "never lose hope." Rejuvenated and able to travel much more quickly, Jumping Mouse continues on ...

Martin the Warrior262 reviews
Brian Jacques, 2008

Swashbuckling legend
Throughout the Redwall books Martin has always been not only the founder of Redwall but a veritable figure of legend. This book finally tells his story. Like the series, it's a grand ol' adventure. However, I felt this one packed the most emotion--I dare to call this a tragedy. If you can put up with that, this is a fantastic and passionate read.

Dark Dark Tale8 reviews
Ruth Brown

Topeka Bindery, 1999

Once upon a time, there was a dark, dark moor...
This "Dark Dark Tale" by Ruth Brown is simple, short and sports a gothic flair. The illustrations (also by Brown) are nothing short of brilliant. Brown the artist captures the fog, shadows and light of her own dark dark little world. Perfect for preschoolers (my two year old loves it and always anticipates the ending), it holds their attention (there can't be more than 120 words in the entire ...

The King, the Mice and the Cheese (Beginner Books(R))17 reviews
Nancy Gurney, Eric Gurney

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1965

Brilliant illustration of the Law of Unintended Consequences
One of the best books I have ever read. The message is deep wisdom that our government leaders and makers of US foreign policy would do well to internalize. Your kids will like it too.

A Redwall Winter's Tale (Redwall Companion Books)7 reviews
Brian Jacques

Philomel, 2001

A great introduction to the world of Redwall
A traveling group of entertainers arrives at the Redwall Abbey on the last day of Autumn. The travellers put on a big show, and the Redwallers provide a huge feast. When it is time to put the Dibbuns (youngsters) to bed, Mighty Bulbrock Badger tells a bedtime story. Who brings the wintertime snows? Why, the Snow Badger, of course! But is the Snow Badger real, or just a fairy tale told to the ...

Mattimeo (Tale of Redwall)215 reviews
Brian Jacques

Red Fox, 2006

EXCELLENT! 10/10!
This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

Snow White6 reviews
Melinda Copper

Dutton Juvenile, 2005

A truly amazing book
I have four grandchildren ages, 2, 3, 4 and six. They (and their parents) all enjoyed the book, especially the illustrations. It was wonderful to revisit the Brothers Grimm version of the story as well as to experience the beautiful full page illustrations. This will be a book that will stay in the family for generations. Melinda Copper is to be congratulated on a wonderful book!

The .40 Caliber Mouse: A Modern Tale Of Vengeance4 reviews
Stephen Pytak

PublishAmerica, 2004

Shocked yet satisfied
I had heard so much about this book that I could not wait to read it even though it is not my usual genre. Being of the Clive Barker-Books of blood-type reader I was hoping this book was sick and depraved. What I found instead was a very well written book with great characters, satisfying violence, a shocking plot twist, and a neglected household until I finished it. It is more of an action ...

The Tale of Two Bad Mice4 reviews
Beatrix Potter

Gramercy, 1992

The Tale of Two Bad Mice
When I was a girl, my mother read this book to me over and again. I remember begging her to read it to me, and when I was old enough reading it myself. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, including the "Two bad mice", and as in all Beatrix Potter books it is well written and a lesson is well learned. I am looking forward to reading this book to my own children (which is why I am on Amazon.com ...

Beauty and the Beast5 reviews
Mouse Works

Mouse Works, 1997

A Must-Read Classic!
Walt Disney?s Beauty and the Beast Read-Aloud storybook is one of the best I?ve seen. Not too long and not too short ? this story is great to read at bedtime or anytime. Illustrations are taken directly from the Disney movie. My preschooler and toddler love the enchanted objects in the castle (especially when I try to sing ?Be Our Guest?). I love the message is presents ? loving someone for ...

Brian & Bob: The Tale of Two Guinea Pigs4 reviews

Hyperion, 2003

Fred enjoyed it.
I read this book to my guinea pig and he loved it. He said it was obvious that Ms. Ripper had spent some quality time around guinea pigs because the illustrations were dead on. He also thought that guinea pigs' obsession with I Spy was a secret. I would recommend Brian And Bob to anyone who is looking for a good guinea pig book. I would, however, suggest waiting until your guinea pig is old ...

The Tailor of Gloucester (Potter 23 Tales)4 reviews
Beatrix Potter

Warne, 1987

A classic for slightly older children
This is my favorite of the Beatrix Potter books, and I probably read all of them as a child. It's ideal for a slightly older child. A very sweet story of a tailor, his cat, and a group of mice who save his business when he is too ill to work.

Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Vs. Stupid Stinkbug From Saturn #06 (Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot)5 reviews
Dav Pilkey

Blue Sky Press, 2003

My kids loved it!
This was the first chapter book that I read to my kids ages 6.5 and 4. The name alone is funny. The kids wondered how a robot was invented by Ricky Ricotta. This was probably explained in one of the earlier ones. It is truly a funny book as Dav Pilkey books are absolutely hysterical. All of his books seem to provide adult humor and loads of play on words. The trouble starts when Ricky Ricotta ...

Sleeping Beauty (Penguin Disney Series)4 reviews
Walt Disney Company, Mouse Works

Viking Pr, 1987

An Exquisite Tale for All Ages
Arthur Rackham not only excelled at creating full color illustrations; he also was an unrivalled master at the art of the silhouette. In this reprinted children's classic, Rackham lavishly illustrates C.S. Evan's intricate retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story with one amazing silhouette after another. One of my favorite illustrations when I was a child was a fabulous two-page cross-section of ...

The Tales of Olga Da Polga6 reviews
Michael Bond

BBC Audiobooks, 2004

Another Michael Bond Success
Olga da Polga is a wonderful book from the creator of Paddington the Bear. It begins at the pet shop where Olga dreams of the world outside, and moves to her "house on legs" in the Sawdust family's garden. Along the way we meet the family she belongs to, her friends from their garden, and are entertained by both the tales about Olga, and the ones she creates for her friends. It's a low-key but ...
