Passage to Mutiny 6 reviews Alexander Kent
Ulverscroft Large Print, 2005
5 Pacific Paradises Plundered Passage to Mutiny is the fourth Kent novel set outside of an actual war and the fourth that deals with pirates. In the past Richard Bolitho has ultimately enjoyed great success against pirates while Kent has had mixed success writing about it. This time Kent gets it right in a nail biting, blood and thunder epic. Perhaps Kent's Bolitho adventures reached their peak in the mid-70s and Passage ...

Not One Shred of Decency 7 reviews Bob Brown
River City Books, 2000
WELL CRAFTED STORY The writer seems to capture a time of history that truly makes the charecters and scenes jump out at the reader. I found it was a book that I truly enjoyed. The author crafted this story well and puts most of the Patrick O'Brien novels to shame. The seriousness and complexity of the story only add to the enjoyment of reading this book.

The Blake Streak: A Tale of War, Mutiny & Love 2 reviews George P. Morrill
Worthington Krantz Pr, 1998
Splendidly crafted characterizations and a compelling plot. Truxtun Blake is a former fighter pilot in World War II who unexpectedly runs into his wartime sweetheart, Charlene Rungrove. The encounter stirs memories, and unnerves Julie, Truxton's pretty dark-haired wife. It is also the beginning of a series of unexpected revelations about his family, especial his older brother Montgomery, a combat PT boat skipper lost in the South Pacific 30 years ago. ...

Bounty Trilogy 23 reviews James Hall, Charles Nordhoff
Little, Brown and Company, 1985
This is an amazing epic and well worth the read. This is an amazing epic of 18th mutiny of the H.M.S. Bounty. Although the tale has been fictionalized as an historical novel, it portrays the conflicting cultures of that time as the forces of racism, imperialism, autonomy and autocracy clash on the high seas. The trilogy is comprised of three novels: The first is Mutiny on the Bounty which chronicles the abuse of Captain Bligh, the mutiny led ...

Between Mutiny and Obedience 2 reviews Leonard V. Smith
Princeton University Press, 1994
Deconstructing an Army Professor Smith illustrates post-structural theory in very down to earth terms. He summarizes accurately that military studies have traditionally taken the obedience of soldiers to their commanders as a given, with incidences of mutiny treated as aberrations -- "friction", in the Clausewitzian sense. He then argues that the relationship between soldiers and commanders must be examined as an ...

Pitcairn Island: Life and Death in Eden 4 reviews Trevor Lummis
Ashgate Publishing, 1997
After the movies finish Funnily enough the really interesting story of the Bounty begins after most movies have 'faded into the sunset' and the credits start to roll. This is what Lummis has picked up - and this book "Pitcairn Island, Life and Death in Eden" is the story of just that. What happened to the Bounty mutineers. It is an awful lot more interesting, bloodthirsty and downright fascinating than the story of the ...

Jannaway's Mutiny 4 reviews Charles Gidley Wheeler
iUniverse, Inc., 2005
Wonderful! There was a time, a lengthy period of time stretching over the course of several centuries, when the British Navy ruled the world's oceans. The defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, Trafalgar--these events and others resulted in the supremacy of Britain on the high seas. Any nation that dared challenge the British Empire knew full well that they would need a plan to counter their formidable naval ...

Pitcairn Island, the Bounty Mutineers and Their Descendants: A History 3 reviews Robert W. Kirk
McFarland, 2008
A compelling and thrilling adventure story I had a strong hunch before purchasing this book that it would turn out to be an exciting read. Last year at our local college I took Professor Robert Kirk's American History course (1865-present), and I was impressed with how he could transform what otherwise might be a series of dry facts and events into themed narrative tales that had the same compelling force as dramatic fiction.
And ...

Will not disappoint Ms. Perillo's second book holds clear and compelling images of the sacred and the mundane. She examines topics from disability to the Beatles. She is in top form in this book. I have recommended this book to many of my friends.

No army is full of perfectly behaved, virtuous, bastions of chivalry No army is full of perfectly behaved, virtuous, bastions of chivalry, and the oft-forgotten Canadian military is no different. Mutiny in Heaven 2 reviews Whitney Lakin
Publish America, 2008
Author Whitney Lakin possesses a rare talent. Challenging rules in every way possible, Lakin has the unusual ability to interweave surprising elements into her tales of the horrifying.
Like a good chef, she knows how to include just that little pinch of something without overdoing it-her stories will leave well-placed touches of melancholy without being maudlin, comedy without losing gravity, history without being stuffy and humanity ...

Bligh 1 review Gavin Kennedy
Duckworth Pub, 1978
Fine defense of one of history's most maligned This is not the Captain Bligh of the Nordhoff and Hall novels. Nor does it tell of the Captain Bligh of Charles Laughton's characterization in film. This is a look at the real Captain Bligh of history and Gavin Kennedy gives us a man who was significantly flawed but fundamentally a decent, even caring, commander who lost his ship to the villainous madness of Fletcher Christian. This may be one ...

Mutiny and Romance in the South Seas: A Companion to the Bounty Adventure 2 reviews Sven Wahlroos
Salem House Pub, 1989
EXCITING, DRAWS EVERYTHING TOGETHER!!! I truly enjoyed this book. I loved the way it was laid out in chronological order. It was easy to pick up and read for a few minutes, without getting so engrossed you couldn't leave. (But if you had a lot of time to spend, you could get engrossed then!) Each month is approximately 2 pages, and includes information on different scenarios--The Bounty, Tahiti, Pitcairn, Bligh's launch, ...

Bounty Trilogy: Mutiny On The Bounty Part 1 of 2 1 review Charles/Hall, James Nordhoff
Books on Tape, Inc., 1978
Awesome book Mutiny on the bounty is a thrilling tale full of adventure. The trilogy tells the complete story from when the Bounty left its port, to the seperate pathways of the crew and captain following the mutiny. Describing this book as a historical novel makes it sound dry and boring, but Charles Hall and James Nordhoff do a superb job as authors so that the pace of the novel glides along quickly from ...

Body Mutiny: Surviving Nine Months of Extreme Morning Sickness 1 review Jenna C. Schmitt
Acacia Publishing, Inc., 2006
Fantastic! Once I began reading this book I could not put it down! A beautifully written book that really transports you deep into the author's innermost thoughts and feelings. It was so real to me. So many books explain the "what to expect when you are expecting" but none comes as close as this one to really expressing what a women feels when something doesn't go as she expected. I highly recommend this ...

Angels of Albion: Women of the Indian Mutiny 1 review Jane Robinson
Allen Lane
The Great Mutiny from the Memsahibs' Perspective Robinson provides a unique analysis of the Great Mutiny from the perspective of the British women involved. Robinson conveys, in a manner that strictly military writers do not, the scope of the Mutiny and its "domestic" impact. Only another woman could have written this book. Robinson combines sympathy with a certain level of judgment of the actions and opinions of some of the participants in a ...

The Hendricks piece together a few accounts on the events that led to the Creole Mutiny and the circumstances surrounding the lead figure of the mutiny, Madison Washington. Freedom's Sons: The True Story of the Amistad Mutiny 2 reviews Suzanne Jurmain
HarperCollins, 1998
Unfortunately True I was driven to this book by Spielberg's movie about the Amistad Mutiny. I was so impressed with the cruelty exposed on the film that I would like to check it in a reliable source. Suzanne Jurmain's book is very easy to read, once is oriented to the young people at the schools. It is a good start to the knowledge of this episode and as I mentioned in the title the book, altough not deeply ...

The 1964 Army Mutinies and the Making of Modern East Africa 1 review Timothy H. Parsons
Praeger Publishers, 2003
Interesting political background I was in 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and took part in suppressing the mutiny at Lanet. This book is an accurate description of those events as I remember them. I always been curious about the political background and find the book fascinating. I was not aware of the far reaching consequences of these army mutinies in all three countries. I would have liked more pictures.
