Excellent introduction to Asp Dot Net
As a newby to ASP Dot Net I have bought a number of books to try and get the grips with this technology. I came accross this one by accident but I'm very glad I did. I have not problem recommending this excellent book. I love Stephens writing style. I also like the way this book is broken down into sections with a huge number of examples and screenshots with just enough explanation to explain ...

Essential C# 2008 Book
This is definately the quintessential C# book to have on your bookshelf! As a previous reviewer mentioned, some books do not deserve the Pro title. This one more than deserves the Pro title. I am not finished reading the whole thing yet but plan to have it completed in the next few weeks. Many of the items I am marking to come back and read again as I know I will get more out of it the ...

Shine with insight
Sometimes just recover the earlier ground may not be a bad idea at all, if previous coverage was good and thorough. Dino's new treatment of ASP.NET falls into this category. His earlier books on ASP.NET 1.x and ASP.NET 2 did such good job that for ASP.NET 3.5 iteration, what he needs to do is to repeat those good coverage with new material for new stuff. And I think he achieved this task ...

Very satisfied with book.
Very satisified with the contents both in terms of the choice of Subjects and the level of detail given to those topics. I've used this book to improve my implementation in a number of areas. An example of this was the detailed description of the .NET Security - Forms Authentication coverage. I have bought quite a few .NET books over the years and this one replaces most of them.

ESSENTIAL For ASP.NET Web Developers/Admins!!!
Wow this is a great book. When I first opened up 'Building a Web 2.0 Portal with ASP.NET 3.5' I expected this to be just any old ASP.NET web development/admin book but I was very pleasantly surprised. Brevity is the champ here, with this book coming in at just under 300 pages but man the content is dense. The focus is on managing and developing your ASP.NET 2.0 portal (as the title ...

Drink Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, lots of them!
I give this book full set of stars because of the tremendous effort made by the author to simplify the process. My only problem with this book is. It is too slow as to the way it explains the subjects. The author directs you to download the example files but then totally crawls when it comes to "using the project files." The book in packed with information but it should have been written ...

First Rate - but not for beginners
This is one of the best software books I have read. The explanations are clear. There is a complete example for every step. He doesnt skip steps. His explanations are not verbose. His language is straighforward - I have yet to find a place where he uses "leverage". The text is written in VB which is not my first choice but the listings are all on disk in both VB & C# so I just browse the C# ...

The fastest way to come up to speed?
Some programming books suffer from the Three Little Bears syndrome: they're too detailed or not detailed enough, too conceptual or not conceptual enough, too much of a tutorial or not enough of a tutorial, and so on. The authors of Programming .NET 3.5 solved this problem by establishing clear goals for their book and by combining the insights of a senior program manager at Microsoft (Jesse ...

This one Rocks... er... Wrox!!
Bill, Scott, and Devin really did a great job pulling together key topics in ASP.NET 3.5. This book is huge... weighting in at 1,584 pages not counting the online resources and index. It basically covers everything any developer would want to brush up on or learn completely from scratch. I was only looking to learn about caching for scaling issues( and it was a great chapter 23), but I learned ...

Great Introduction to ASP.NET
I have purchased (what feels like) hundreds of computer related books from Amazon.com (including other ASP.NET books), and this is the first one that I have ever felt the need to comment on. This is just a great book, in my opinion! I found the book to be very easy to read, and logical to follow - Matthew MacDonald's writing style is very effective in communicating technical information in a ...

Solid Intro to asp.net 3.5
If you're looking for a book that will give you a solid foundation to asp.net 3.5 through Visual Web Developer, this is it. Many books throw advanced material at the reader in the beginning chapters to show what the software can do, thereby confusing the novice. This book proceeds logically. Also, hats off to author Scott Mitchell! I emailed him because there was a glitch on the Sams website & ...

The Right Author, the right approach
I almost didn't by the ASP.NET 3.5 for Dummies. Then I noticed that it was a different author than ASP.NET 2.0 for Dummies and I thought I would give it a look. Bill Hatfield wrote the 'Dummies' book on the previous version and while I found him to be very knowledgeable, I got frustrated because I was trying to learn how to use Visual Studio with ASP.NET and his book didn't provide much help. ...

Review from a "professional" reviewer
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a review by a "technical expert". I really liked how the book was laid out with a problem-solution-reasoning approach (known as a recipe). Each one was generally useful for those unaware of how to do things in ADO.NET. The examples were short and too the point. The topics were quite varied so just about everyone will find something in this ...

MUST GET - If you want to get under the covers
Ok for me its a must have book. Why because I want to know all about what the micrsoft javascipt injection is actually doing, how I debug applications with it, how I make it leaner (versa using CSSQuery,JQuery and MooTools), how I wire up events and become articulate with this tecnology. You can use the MS Ajax framework on its own in say PHP. So this book is really all about the client side ...

Breath of fresh air
I normally buy Wrox books and up until .NET I was very happy with them, but their .NET books (ASP.NET 2.0 and VB.NET particularly) were poorly organized with massive numbers of errors in them. I wanted an ADO.NET book but the customer reviews of the Wrox title were poor so I kept looking and found this book that has much better reviews. I'd not bought a Microsoft Press book recently because I ...
