Truman 272 reviews David McCullough
Simon & Schuster, 1993
Amazing biography This is one of those rare biographies which pulls you in from the beginning and never lets go. It is an excellent look at one of the truly under-appreciated presidents. Truman was an amazing man and an incredible public servant. The sense of history that this biography brings makes it a must-read for anyone interested in American history and/or American politics.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) 5409 reviews J.K. Rowling
Scholastic Paperbacks, 1999
Please don't summarize! I loved this book and read it in two days and began the next immediately. One thing that troubles me -- about many amazon reviews -- is that they are NOT reviews. Person after person summarizes the story (which is, basically, summarized in the official editorial paragraph. WHY OH WHY does everyone do this! WHy not just say what you liked/disliked and why?
Rowling uses EXQUISITE VOCABULARY ...

Waiting in Vain 446 reviews Colin Channer
One World/Ballantine, 1999
An Amazing Literary Journey That Took My Breath Away Colin Channer to me is like a modern day Picasso with a pen. His dialogue is compelling, soul-stirring and purposeful and his characters are engaging. You can almost close your eyes and imagine yourself seeing the story unfold as if you were a fly on the wall at a gallery in New York, a beach house in Jamaica, or the Streets of London. This is the mark of a truly great storyteller.

The Revolution: A Manifesto 504 reviews Ron Paul
Grand Central Publishing, 2008
A book from the man who should be the next President. After the "Super Tuesday" results came in and I was disappointed with how Ron Paul did in those primaries, I reverted to my characteristic cynicism and bitterness with the political process and decided that I no longer had a desire to support ANY politician, regardless of political philosophy and legislative history. I removed Ron Paul from my page, left the "Veterans for Ron Paul" facebook ...

A great gift! I bought this book as a gift for my 16yr old niece. The very next day, she told me how much she loved the book. She even cried reading it. I think it's nice to find reading materials that can move the minds and feelings of teenagers.

Lucky Man: A Memoir 209 reviews Michael J. Fox
Hyperion, 2002
A memoir that is good and fun to read I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Would it be just about Michael J Fox's life or would it center too much on his Parkinson's disease. I'm not usually big on reading celebrity autobiographies and memoirs.
This one is definitely worth reading! Mr. Fox shares his story with humor and humility and a wonderful honesty. He speaks honestly about his struggles with Parkinson's and ...

The Prophet 252 reviews Kahlil Gibran
Grammercy, 1999
A pedestal on life I picked up this book later in life after many family hardships befell me. Rather than looking to religion or self help books an honest and humble friend read versus from this book to me. Having loved poetry and free verse most of my life I was struck with vivid beauty in the simplicity of the words that graced my ears that night. Kahlil Gibran in his day was renowned for his prose and how he ...

Stephen King: The Gunslinger, the Drawing of the Three, the Waste Lands 218 reviews Stephen King
New Amer Library (Mm), 1995
Foaming at the mouth for the next in the series! This series is outstanding!!!! True King fans love it, and I think it's an interesting change for those who may not care for King's normal "horror" genre. Bits and pieces of this masterpiece are hinted at in many of King's other books,a nice "inside joke" for King's Constant Reader. This series grabbed me and would not let go! I've read them all at least twice and like the header says, I'm ...

The Book of Atrus (Myst, Book 1) 197 reviews Rand Miller, Robyn Miller, ...
Hyperion, 1995
Myst: The Book of Atrus It really seems only fitting that a video game about books would have a series of books published in its name. For some reason when such books were first coming out I was sort of skeptical about their quality. I truly am glad I overcame this and decided to pick up the Myst books. I was an early enough adopter to be able to get all the hardcover texts and they are all beautifully designed. ...

Mattimeo 213 reviews Brian Jacques
Red Fox, 1994
EXCELLENT! 10/10! This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 (Vintage) 272 reviews Lawrence Wright
Vintage, 2007
Awesome I wanted to respond to the reviewer who said the Bin Laden of the book wouldn't have denied the 9/11 bombings right after they happened. Remember, he does say in the book that Bin Laden denied the bombings of the East African embassies right after they happened. So I don't think the argument that Wright carefully omitted facts to make Bin Laden into a stock movie villain holds much water. In ...
