Finance & Accounting for Nonfinancial Managers8 reviews
Steven A. Finkler

Aspen Publishers, 2003

Please Note
I am the author. I would like to point out that the reviews that appear here, which are dated prior to May 2002, are for the previous edition. In this new Third Edition, I have worked hard to take this top-selling, clearly written book, and add content in many areas to provide more depth to the book. There are six new chapters covering tax concepts, capital structure, business plans, working ...

Accounting and Financial Fundamentals for NonFinancial Executives7 reviews
Robert Rachlin, Allen Sweeny

AMACOM, 1996

Accounting with Rachlin and Sweeny
I highly recommend the Rachlin and Sweeny book. As a professor of accounting at a major university in Florida, I teach accounting to both accounting and nonaccounting majors. I am particularly impressed by two features of this book. First, it presents the basic concepts of accounting and finance in an easy to read format without compromising technical accuracy. Second, and more ...

Finance and Accounting for Nonfinancial Managers2 reviews
Samuel C. Weaver, J. Fred Weston

McGraw-Hill, 2001

Excellent!!
One of the best F&A books written for general managers I have read. Detailed enough to give the reader an excellent grasp of the subject, but doesn't require calculus to understand. If you're a manager who cringes during discussions of cash flow, cost of capital, and discount rates, this book is for you. Can't wait for other titles in the series!

Healthcare Finance: Basic Tools for Non-Financial Managers (Health Care Finance (Baker))2 reviews
Judith J. Baker, R. W. Baker

Jones & Bartlett Pub, 2005

Ok basic, but not too helpful
This book gives a good basic overview of the health care finance. Its best feature is that it is applied to health care only, so you don't have to go through other business models. I cannot see using it in the future though - if you are planning to manage your office/work on a budget/evaluate your organization from a financial stand point, this is not the book you will need.

Finance And Accounting For Nonfinancial Managers: All The Basics You Need to Know5 reviews
William G. Droms

Basic Books, 2003

Great book when paired with another one.
This is a very readable book about business finance and accounting. I have used it, along with a study guide I prepared for it, to help train people who were becoming instructors for business training classes. It certainly helps to be able to discuss the material in the book with someone who knows more about what's in it than you do. Even so, Droms does a good job with his material and you can ...

Understanding Broadcast and Cable Finance, Second Edition: A Primer for the Non-Financial Manager1 review
Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association

Focal Press, 2008

Interesting overview / introduction
I picked up this book to help me jumpstart a new role at a company that sells gear into the Cable industry. I found the book to be written very clearly and have concise yet usable introductions to the many facets of running a media business. Some parts I felt were missing were real world examples (dare I say case studies), names of key players / vendors in every area described in the book ...

Finance for Strategic Decision-Making: What Non-Financial Managers Need to Know (J-B-UMBS Series)1 review
M. P. Narayanan, Vikram K. Nanda

Jossey-Bass, 2004

very helpful
As a non-financial manager that had only learned the financial aspects of management "by osmosis" (as the authors say), I've felt this book closed several gaps of financial knowledge, with excellent to-the-point explanations, always backed up with realistic cases. I feel much more confident to make some decisions now, and to defend my points against my CFO (and know when to agree with his). I ...

Financial Statements for Non-Financial People: A Quick-And-Easy Guide to Reading a Financial Statement2 reviews
Ron Price

Adams Media Corporation, 2003

Finally, a book that speaks MY language!
Financial books are typically jargon filled tomes that read like one accountant writing to another. Mr. Price has taken a normally complex topic and has broken it down into plain language and understandable examples. He even has made the whys and the wherefores understandable. I recommend this book to anyone who feels in the dark about financial statements and what they really say or don't say. ...
