Grand Obsession: A Piano Odyssey50 reviews
Perri Knize

Scribner, 2008

Fantastic and educational read!
I really enjoyed the book, her tales, and all the wonderful information I learned about pianos. I am a pianist, but I didn't know all the detail that goes into building a fine instrument. I am dying to hear the Schubert tuning on an instrument- I wonder how I will do that?! I might talk to my tuner next month!

This was the first book that truly spoke to my situation. I had a hard time putting the book down becuase I related to so many of the people inside. Finally, someone has written a book for both women and men about obsessive, addictive relationships. I feel like I have new insight into problem and can start making positive changes in my life. Excellent book for anyone caught up in another person.

The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive: A Leadership Fable49 reviews
Patrick M. Lencioni

Jossey-Bass, 2000

Obviously, not all obsessions are productive and beneficial
This is one in a series of "leadership fables" in which Patrick Lencioni shares his thoughts about the contemporary business world. His characters are fictitious human beings rather than anthropomorphic animals, such as a tortoise that wins a race against a hare or pigs that lead a revolution to overthrow a tyrant and seize control of his farm. In this instance, Lencioni focuses on a common ...

Magnificent Obsession28 reviews
Lloyd C. Douglas

Mariner Books, 1999

American literature of the First Water
"Magnificent Obsession" is the inspirational story of an aristocratic and reckless playboy named Bobby Merrick. He starts out badly in the beginning of the story -- during one of his numerous peccadillos, a boating accident, he requires the use of a breathing machine which happens to be the only one available in the region. Coincidentally, a local physician, the beloved Doctor Hudson, has a heart ...

Murder is afood, but Monk is on the Job
The year is 1861 and the American Civil War has just begun. The quiet dinner party held by Daniel Alberton, a wealthy arms dealer, seems remote from the heat and passion across the ocean. Yet investigator William Monk and his bride Hester sense growing tensions and barely concealed violence in the well-appointed mansion. Art Making, Collections, and Obsessions: An Intimate Exploration of the Mixed-Media Work and Collections of ...27 reviews
Lynne Perrella

Quarry Books, 2008

Loved It!
I have always loved the work of Lynne Perrella, but she has outshone even herself by compiling this book of artists from the same ilk as herself. Being a compulsive collecter and an artist myself, this book was irrestible and to see what other artists collect is both engaging and delicious at the same time! Congratulations to Lynne Perrella for this wonderful book. I have already researched ...

Obsession: A History
Lennard J. Davis

University Of Chicago Press, 2008

We live in an age of obsession. Not only are we hopelessly devoted to our work, strangely addicted to our favorite television shows, and desperately impassioned about our cars, we admire obsession in others: we demand that lovers be infatuated with one another in films, we respond to the passion of single-minded musicians, we cheer on driven athletes. To be obsessive is to be American; to be obsessive is to be modern. But obsession is not only a ...

Soul Obsession: When God's Primary Pursuit Becomes Your Life's Driving Passion6 reviews
Nicky Cruz

WaterBrook Press, 2005

Very Uplifting
"Soul Obsession" is a great blessing to the body of Christ. It is filled with inspiring testimonies about the love and power of God as He works in dark, needy lives. The author also openly shares about God's love, guidance and provisions to him as he's served the Lord over the past 40+years; he speaks of God's faithfulness in the face of his weaknesses and vulnerabilities. This makes Soul ...

This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession106 reviews
Daniel J. Levitin

Plume/Penguin, 2007

One of the best books you can find on the science of music!
This book was found, as many of my great finds, on the shelves of a used-book store. The book has traveled around in my car with me as I go from school to my job as a voice teacher. It has been loaned out to music professors, and is now very well worn. I strongly recommend this book for musicians and music lovers alike. It is beautifully written in a way that nearly anyone can understand, ...

My daughter is currently in a boarding school (Academy of the Sierras) that helps teens lose substantial amounts of weight, as well as to learn a lifestyle that they will want to follow for the rest of their lives. Dr. Kirschenbaum is the Clinical Director for the school. I was fortunate to meet the author this past weekend at a Parent Workshop and to hear him speak about the program. ...

Obsession (Signet Novel)60 reviews
Karen Robards

Signet, 2008

(4.5 Stars) A Departure From Her Usual Work
Obsession is a science fiction thriller, and a pretty big departure from Karen Robards usual work. I'd characterize the book as more of a mystery/thriller than a romance novel. Although much of the storyline is highly implausible, I don't really think it's intended to be "scientifically accurate" as she blends some elements of science fiction into the plot. There is good chemistry between the ...

Grand Obsession: Harvey Butchart and the Exploration of Grand Canyon7 reviews
Elias Butler, Tom Myers

Puma Press, 2007

A Grand Book for a Truly Grand Obsession
Harvey Butchart was a mathematics professor. His doctoral thesis was "Helices in Euclidean N-Space", and at one point he had to get twenty feet of wrapping paper to do his massive calculations for it. He looked the part, for he was scrawny at five foot seven inches and 135 pounds, and he had thick bifocals. He was socially awkward and shy. He was a good mathematician, with further papers and ...

Dark Obsession: A Novel of Blackheath Moor (Signet Eclipse)9 reviews
Allison Chase

Signet, 2008

Beautifully written and hauntingly romantic
Want to read a fabulous twist on Gothic Romance? Well, you couldn't do better than Dark Obsession. Allison Chaise strikes all the right chords when creating mood, raising the tension of the storyline, and writing heroes who are lovable and flawed (sober, self-sacrificing, guilt-ridden and possibly dangerous). Her descriptions of 19th century London society and the ruggedly beautiful countryside ...

Sacred Obsession by Becky Tirabassi is a beautiful 5x7 inch hardcover book wherein Becky shares her personal journey, from a wayward and sin-worn young woman on the brink of suicide, back to the arms of God. Obsession6 reviews
Kayla Perrin

Spice, 2008

Obession
This book had me thinking about the statement '2 wrongs don't make a right' and also 'what looks good and feels good to you may end up being bad for you'. Sophie comes back from a cruise with her best friend and is told by her husband that he had a affair. He apologizes and begs her forgiveness and even tells her that she can have a affair if it will help them get back together. She tells him to ...
