Fantastic book!
I pull this book out every time I start a new project. It offers great blocks with 5 different size options. That was the sell for me, math is not my thing! I've owned this book for years and I still love it. I have all of my quilting ladies buying it, because they love what I come up with.

One of the All-Time great baseball books!
Dick Tellis gives us the stories of players who "came up to the show" for only a few brief moments...but what moments! Whether they struck out or won the game, Dick Tellis captures the feeling most of us only dream about. The sadness of only getting one shot, but also the glory of having that one shot, is treated with great skill from someone who must have also shared in that dream. One of the ...

Sharyn McCrumb, Once Around the Track
This book is quite different from McCrumb's "mountain" books and her Elizabeth MacPherson books. It is also quite different from St. Dale. She provides an inside look at the problems and costs of entering a car in NASCAR racing, as well as the interactions among various team members, in the context of a corporation entering a car with a male driver and an all-female pit crew. The book is well ...

a man, a fan, a life -- autobiography!
I had the good fortune to meet Robert Bloch at a small science-fiction convention in Atlanta in the late 70's/early 80's. He read one of his short stories, fielded questions, then we were treated to a screening of Psycho (I think he may have left by this time.) I remember how warm and funny, even self-depreciating, he was. This book is like that. From boyhood and adolescence in hard times, to ...

An excellent story!
This author writes so brilliantly and knows how to draw the reader into an emotional connection with the characters. It's nice to read about people who overcome lousy childhoods and relationships in which they were treated poorly/unfairly to go on to find joy and love in their lives.
Once Around the Sun
Bobbi Katz
Harcourt Children's Books
, 2006
Children don't need a calendar to tell them which season it is. Every month has its own distinct clues, like in September "when yellow pencils / in brand-new eraser hats / bravely wait on perfect points." In a dozen unforgettable poems, this fresh yet nostalgic collection captures the excitement of each season, spinning us once around the sun--twelve months, four seasons, one amazing year.

the pinnacle
I have been fortunate enough to share a love of baseball and a particular interest in the Mets and the Red Sox with Roger Angell, though I've not followed him into his current infatuation with the Yankees. As a result, I've not only read all of his books, his name is also one of the few whose appearance in The New Yorker's Table of Contents suffices by itself to get me to buy the magazine. ...

One of the best adventure books around
Yes, I dream of the day that I too can retire and sail away. The LeHardys have written a book that gives you an excellent insight of how to sail away, and see the world.

Dissapointing
I love the adventure travel genre, but this one doesn't make the grade. The book is the day-by-day diary of a round-the-world cyclist. Adventure? Excitement? Not! A typical day's entry reads something like: "Left at 9:30 and rode xx Kms. to 'name of town'. Horrendous headwinds all day. Checked into a hotel -- can you believe they only have 2 satellite channels on the TV? No McDonald's ...
