Joomla! A User's Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website 35 reviews Barrie M. North
Prentice Hall PTR, 2007
Excellent Introduction to Joomla If you are looking for a well written book about Joomla then this is the one. I read it from cover to cover except for one chapter. Joomla is a very powerful CMS engine, and because of that, the developers of this engine will always struggle to provide a simpler user interface and experience. In most cases simpler does really mean less powerful features. This book tries to bridge the gap, by ...

The Exceptional Presenter: A Proven Formula to Open Up and Own the Room 28 reviews Timothy J. Koegel
Greenleaf Book Group Press, 2007
Outstanding This book is excellent. Having been a presenter for many years I still have a lot to learn. The biggest room in the world is the room for self improvement. This book has filled a large void. I recommend it for anyone presenter or not.

Respect in a World of Inequality 3 reviews Richard Sennett
W. W. Norton & Company, 2004
A Very Distinct Piece of Scholarship When a "customer" of this book (not a "reader", for sure) can make a comment and leave it on Amazon labeled as the so-called "review", I think that a unique example of 'free speech'! It seems we have the right to say almost anything about a book we may not be educated enough to read or understand it.

Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow 16 reviews Elizabeth Lesser
Villard, 2005
Opening Yourself to Change "Broken Open" is the first book I read after losing my husband. Indeed, I felt broken open, so it seemed an apt buy for me. I really appreciated the honest, open tone of Elizabeth Lesser's style of writing. "A heart made crooked through loss and change is a heart that can love the world and its less than perfect people." So true. After you lose someone, you appreciate so much more what you have. ...

The Gift of Therapy: An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and Their Patients 36 reviews Irvin Yalom
Harper Perennial, 2003
Excellent Resource This was one of the most helpful books I've read in my graduate experience. The lessons take the theory that we've learned and make it practical. Dr. Yalom's willingness to admit his mistakes and weaknesses makes his advice and insight much more relevant.

The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations 60 reviews Ori Brafman, Rod A. Beckstrom
Portfolio Hardcover, 2006
The Starfish and the Spider relevance to Relationship Economics As succinctly illustrated in Rod Beckstrom's book The Starfish and the Spider, the massively complex and dynamic ecosystems of today's highly matrixed corporations can more effectively adapt to the market dynamics by way of decentralized competency teams. Substantial organizational inertia creates difficult personality dynamics, and also has the potential to bring out highly destructive corporate ...

Learning Python, 3rd Edition 119 reviews Mark Lutz
O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2007
Great introductory book This is a really good introduction to Python. It is very clear, accessible and has quite a lot of substantial content. It does not get into the really deep details, but that is OK because if it tried to the book would become overwhelming. On the other hand, unlike some python books it is not so light and superficial to be good for newbies only. I think this is a great starter book on Python.

Opening Up: A Guide to Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships 15 reviews Tristan Taormino
Cleis Press, 2008
Thoughtful, honest and well researched I was impressed by the amount of research which is presented in Opening Up. The history of the open relationship is well detailed as is the variety of practices which fall under the open relationship umbrella. I was particularly impressed with the questionnaire section which truly encourages a reader to consider whether an open relationship will work for them. The issues of safety and ...

iPhone Open Application Development: Write Native Objective-C Applications for the iPhone 11 reviews Jonathan Zdziarski
O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2008
Greate API primer, OOP crash course Coming from a PHP world, Object-Oriented Programming can be difficult to wrap your mind around. Thankfully the introduction chapters here aren't too far overhead. OOP concepts are a must-have for modern programmers, and this book makes no contentions to teach you Objective-C directly. However, the author has included some good references to where you can take beginner OOP courses.

Introducing Character Animation with Blender 31 reviews Tony Mullen
Sybex, 2007
Very Fast Response from Tony Mullen I just received Introducing Character Animation with Blender. The book seems very well written and well illustrated. I have only made it through part of the first chapter, but if I don't learn character animation, it will be my fault, not the book's. Two amazing things: 1. The book had no CD. Nothing. 2. I fired off an email to Tony Mullen complaining about this fact. Within hours, I got a ...

Through the Open Door to the Vastness of Your True Being 16 reviews Eckhart Tolle

Visiting the Now I read The Power of Now The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment a number of years ago, but was recently drawn back to Tolle's work during a major change in my life. I was yearning for peace, and center, and stillness. In addition to re-reading the book, I discovered this CD. His voice and teachings, so clearly presented here, were soothing to my jangled, overwhelmed nervous ...

It works for getting rid of bad habits This is an excellent self-help book. I have now over 2 months without biting and destroying my nails. I had been biting my nails since I was a child, but I do not remember when it started. It probably was when I was 4-5 years old. The thing is that I do not remember me having healthy nails, and I do not remember me without biting my nails. When I became an adult, biting my nails in public was ...

A Practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux(R) 11 reviews Mark G. Sobell
Prentice Hall PTR, 2007
A complete guide to Ubuntu Linux for beginning to intermediate users Finding a single book that encompasses what you want to learn can be difficult. Most cover a few portions of a subject in depth and skim over (or omit) others. Other books will cover each topic at about the same level: high enough to give an impression of what can be done, but not with enough depth to do it without a lot of effort. Mark G. Sobell's "A Practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux" is a single ...
