If you love Wilde, you MUST own this book!
Though the print is small for those of us over 40, it's worth it - if not, it would weigh about 10 pounds! As it is, it's a tome, but worth reading, and re-reading time and again. It has everything - everything! - that you'll ever hear mentioned - his stories, his novels, his essay's. It would make a great gift for a young writer, as well.

Unparalleled Wit & Wisdom
"I can resist everything except temptation." "There is no sin except stupidity." "It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances." "It is always with the best intentions that the worst work is done." These laconic aphorisms are just the tip of the iceberg of Wilde's impressive, yet oftentimes eclectic and nihilistic, use of the English language. Dover gives us 60 pages of brilliant ...

scholarly yet stimulating
I remember reading this book when I was 16 and being blown away by the erudition. Even to this day it's probably the most erudite biography I've ever read. The scholarly weight and depth of this book is tremendous. It is amazingly comprehensive. This is the kind of book that takes 20 years to write and must be a labor of love for the writer--the writer must really love his subject, in this case, ...

astonishingly good!
Oscar Hopkins is the red-haired, idealistic, hydrophobic, mantis-like son of a preacher from England. Lucinda Leplastrier is a beautiful, Australian feminist heiress who owns glass works. They are like two poles of opposite charge, completely different, yet attracting each other. There is only one thing they seem to have in common: the addiction to gambling. Their meeting happens against all ...

"I Hate It When Everyone Agrees With Me, For Then I Must Consider That I Might Be Wrong"
The title says it all. This is THEE complete works of Ireland's gift to Victorian London. Wilde's plays, essays, poems, his sole novel, The Picture of Dorian Grey, and his last bitter work, De Profundus, (From The Depths) a letter to his lover and betrayer, Lord Alfred Douglas, is re-printed as well. For the price, it's the best way to add this celebrated, tragic wit to your library.

Brilliantly Funny
This book has remained one of my favorites since reading it in high school ~5 years ago. I have re-read it multiple times, seen it live & as a movie, and never seem to tire of Wilde's excellent knack for satire. It is a quick & fun read full of irony and hilariously awkward situations. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys play-format comedies with strong irony.

Class act all the way!
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Extensively details who Oscar is and where he (and his family) came from. A truly rags-to-riches story. You cannot help but like this young man. A brisk, intelligent read for everybody especially boxing fans and people of Mexican heritage. Excellent book!

"Between Me and Life There is A Mist of Words Always"
Oscar Wilde once said "Drama is the meeting place of art and life." In this essential, compact volume Ralph Keyes leaves a trail to that corner by gathering the flamboyant author's thorniest, at times most insightful quotes and anecdotes. Keyes uses Wilde's plays, reviews, letters, interrogations, even conversational repartee (given its own section) which remained Wilde's signature to his time. ...

My favourite coffee table book
This is a divine book and you will love having a good sticky beak at Oscar's glam lifestyle. The South American House, second wife, garden, frocks and Manhattan apartment are all lovingly and lavishly photographed. It is worth every penny.

Absolutely tiptop, Mr. Brandreth....
I cannot recommend this delicious little pastiche highly enough. The plot is outlined in previous reviews so there's no need to rehash; however, I do feel the need to contribute my proverbial two cents in regard to how compulsively readable this one is. Having a Kindle, I originally downloaded the "sample". That was all it took. I subsequently downloaded the full text immediately upon ...

Excellent
Oscar est un petit garçon de 10 ans atteint de leucémie. Chaque jour, sur les conseils de Madame rose, une femme qui rend visite aux enfants malades, il écrit des lettres à Dieu. 5 stars for my 5 year old
My son loves me to read this to him. It is one of the few books where he is enthralled and has a great smile - sortof like when he is watching other children play. The story line is an child Otter that loves to slide down into the pond decides to venture into the mountains to make a really big, great slide and gets chased by a wolf - but keeps his wits about him. There are morals to the story, ...
Ki-43 Oscar Aces of World War 2 (Aircraft of the Aces)
Hiroshi Ichimura
Osprey Publishing
, 2009
Dubbed the 'Oscar' by the Allies, the Ki-43 Hayabusa was the most prolific Japanese fighter of World War II. Produced in great numbers, it initially proved superior to most US and British fighter types, due to its excellent maneuverability. The light weight and large wing area gave it a small turning radius and a high rate-of-climb which was ideal for pilots in close combat fighting. However, the Ki-43's swiftness and agility came at a price, ...

"Beauty is a form of Genius."
Oscar Wilde was one of the foremost representatives of Aestheticism, a movement based on the notion that art exists for no other purpose than its existence itself ("l'art pour l'art"), not for the purpose of social and moral enlightenment. Born in Dublin and a graduate of Oxford's Magdalen College, he initially worked primarily as a journalist, editor and lecturer, but gradually turned to writing ...
