Bed and Blessings Italy: A Guide to Convents and Monasteries Available for Overnight Lodging15 reviews
June Walsh, Anne Walsh

Paulist Press, 1999

Highly helpful
The book was an excellent aid in securing reasonably priced accommodations in Rome and several cities to the North. The curfew - the front door being firmly locked at 10 PM - may be a problem for some but not for those who have spent a busy day sightseeing. We found one convent also closed the door during the lunch hour so we had to wait patiently for our check in. The only other negative was ...

Day & Overnight Hikes in West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest, 2nd (Day & Overnight Hikes - Menasha ...1 review
Johnny Molloy

Menasha Ridge Press, 2006

A good trail guide
I just used this book to navigate through the Dolly Sods Wilderness loop last weekend. The book was an invaluable tool because of the (somewhat) detailed trail maps it offers and the elevation profile of the trail. I did find the 2-3 page description of the trail to be pretty good, but I felt that it was too vague in spots. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get ...

50 Hikes in Vermont: Walks, Hikes, and Overnights in the Green Mountain State, Sixth Edition6 reviews
The Green Mountain Club

Countryman Press, 2003

Beautiful guide with essential information
Living in California, I don't get a chance to hike in Vermont as often as I would like. But when I do, I always take this lightweight guide along in my car and in the pack. The best part about the guide is that hikes are described in detail and directions to each trailhead are given in exhaustive detail. This is especially important for out-of-towners who aren't familiar with the back country ...

Alien Overnight13 reviews
Robin L. Rotham

Ellora's Cave, 2007

Great Read!
I was completely won over by this author in her debute and can't wait to read any and everything else she writes. I love sci-fi stories and especially ones where the most unlikely pair up and find love. I love strong, powerful take no prisoner males and a female who gives as good as she gets and loves submitting to their "punishment".

Hiking Death Valley National Park: 36 Day and Overnight Hikes (Where to Hike Series)1 review
Bill Cunningham, Polly Cunningham

Falcon, 2007

A Fine Chapter of a Larger Book
Death Valley is the second most visited national park in California after Yosemite. I am absolutely amazed by this figure every time I visit Point Reyes National Seashore, Sequoia, and the rest of California's spectacular parks. Nonetheless, there is stark beauty to be found in the desert, and Death Valley has more of it, and the history to match, than just about any other place. Indeed, Death ...

The Best of the Appalachian Trail Overnight Hikes, 2nd2 reviews
Victoria Logue, Frank Logue, ...

Menasha Ridge Press, 2007

Great Books!
Just bought this and Best of the AT Day Hikes and am really enjoying them. I know I will never hike the whole trail, but these two books give me the best that the Appalachian Trail has to offer without having to hike evey inch of it. The books are well-organized and you can glean a lot of information at a glance; later you can go back and get the specifics of the hikes. This is edition has been a ...

Hiking Anza-Borrego Desert State Park: 25 Day and Overnight Hikes (Where to Hike Series)1 review
Bill Cunningham, Polly Cunningham

Falcon, 2007

California's Premier Desert Park
Anza Borrego is the largest state park in California and, for that matter, in the lower 48 states. With over 600,000 acres it roughly the size of Sequoia National Park and during the early spring there are few nicer places to visit. Because of its size this park perfect for auto touring and off road vehicle use, but the park does boast well over 100 miles of developed trail and many other nice ...

Hiking Washington's Alpine Lakes Wilderness: Day Hikes and Easy Overnights1 review
Jeffrey L. Smoot

Falcon, 2003

Falcon Guide books always good
I own a lot of Falcon Guide books. They are excellent. I tear out the pages for the hike I'm about to go on, follow the directions, read about the history or flora or fauna during lunch, then put the pages back in the book when I get home.

Hiking Joshua Tree National Park: 38 Day and Overnight Hikes (Where to Hike Series)2 reviews
Bill Cunningham, Polly Cunningham

Falcon, 2007

Helpful Guide
Very helpful guide to hiking in the park. Good trail directions and maps. Somewhat limited in descriptions of what you will see on the hikes but they did a good job and I found the guide very helpful. I would suggest buying their other book: Hiking California's Desert Parks if you are going to go anywhere else as the Joshua Tree hikes are essentially covered in that book.

Day & Overnight Hikes Shenandoah National Park, 3rd (Day & Overnight Hikes - Menasha Ridge)1 review
Johnny Molloy

Menasha Ridge Press, 2007

good resource
Good resource for planning hikes in SNP. Good maps & elevation profiles, although I wouldn't wander too far from Skyline Drive without a more detailed map like those offered by the Potomac Appalchian Trail Club.

Janice VanCleave's Help! My Science Project Is Due Tomorrow! Easy Experiments You Can Do Overnight2 reviews
Janice VanCleave

Wiley, 2001

Good book, good content, great help!
We bought this book to use as an alternative to TV-filled weekends. So far, so good! The projects are well written and easy to follow. This is just one reason she is a very popular children's science author. The book is well written and contains interesting, age-appropriate topics for students to explore. We spent the first few days trying to narrow our choices to just a few to explore first!
