The Little Red Hen18 reviews
Paul Galdone

Sandpiper, 1985

Classic story with a message
This classic story carries a message, not only for children that don't want to help with their chores, but for anyone who hasn't quite got into the gardening mood. This book is all about helping, sharing, and making an effort in your own behalf. I bring it along with me when doing presentations on gardening and food security, and the grown ups pick it up read it, and they really get it. Great ...

Harry the Dirty Dog40 reviews
Gene Zion, Margaret Bloy Graham

HarperCollins, 1956

My favorite is now one of hers...
I loved this book as a child and now my 2 year old loves it too. This book tells the story of Harry, who hates baths. He hates them so much that he buries his brush and (temporarily) runs away from home. He plays and gets so dirty that his family thinks he is a different dog entirely. The story is sweet and simple enough for my 2 year old to enjoy, but not so simple that it's boring or ...

That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely)33 reviews
Fiona Watt

Usborne Books, 2001

Well done!
That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy is short and sweet on length, but wonderfully entertaining with textures. This is a great, sturdy board book that very little readers will enjoy multiple times. And, when you've explored all you want about the dogs, you can always discuss that cute little mouse who seems to appear on every single page! Cute, educational, and very, very ...

Workman Publishing Company, 2007

For the Love of Dogs
This calender is for those that love all types of dogs. Not only are the pictures of the animals great, but the quality of the calendar is superb. The prints are on heavy constructed paper and are supported by the plastic holder that lets you easily view each day. For each picture there are wonderful quotes from famous, non-famous, and anonymous dog lovers. Finally, enjoy the double sided ...

One of the BEST calendars I have ever owned!
This must be one of the best calendars I have ever owned!!! The dog pictures are either adorable or really funny! All pages come with a title and some small caption about the dogs in the picture. I am VERY happy with this item. I have had MANY calendars in my life (including other page a day ones) and I have to say this one is my favorite. Every morning when I wake up I see my page for that day ...

My 5-year-old LOVES this book!
My daughter received this book (along with I Can Draw Animals also excellent!) for Christmas (which was 2 days before her 5th birthday) and she LOVES it! Very easy directions she can follow all by herself and something she uses over and over again! Great book for little artists!

Smart Parenting: How to Raise Happy, Can-Do Kids (with 10 Smart Decision Pads)25 reviews
Dr. Brad Smart and Dr. Kate Smart Mursau

CDK Press, 2007

New Angle
This book provides a different angle on the goal of raising happy kids. Rather than focus on disciplinary measures, it focuses on ways to instill problem-solving skills and a sense of self-sufficiency in your kids. The idea of having your kids "figure it out" is lost in the child development literature. And Brad and Kate offer many activities to make this concept practical and easy to ...

Judith Dodge

Scholastic, Inc., 2006

Practical Resource
I have known that differentiation in the classroom is key to student success. Practical application has been my stumbling block. Finally, a resource has surfaced that offers theory and practice! I was able to use the strategies immediately. The format of the book is easy to follow. I have already recommended it to my teammates. This is a must-read for classroom teachers. (I wish my own ...

The Usborne Children's Bible7 reviews
Heather Amery

E.D.C. Publishing, 1998

Beautiful intro to Bible stories for your 3-5 year old child
The Usborne Children's Bible includes about 45 stories, half Old Testament, half New Testament. Each story is told in about three pages on average (some have only one page, the crucifixion is told in seven pages) accompanied by colorful and more importantly beautiful illustrations. This edition is really wonderful for parents who disdain children's Bibles with goofy cartoonish drawings or the ...

That's Not My Dragon (Usborne Touchy Feely)10 reviews
Fiona Watt

Usborne Books, 2006

We love this whole series
The illustrations are simple and engaging, the textures are varied (both within a book and from book to book), and the wide-ranging adjectives in an otherwise repetitive text make these books good vocabulary builders. Can't recommend this enough for babies, toddlers, and even preschoolers.

Shoes Page-A-Day Gallery Calendar 2008 (Page-A-Day Gallery Calendars)8 reviews
Workman Publishing Company

Workman Publishing Company, 2007

Two generations of shoe freaks
My 81-year-old surrogate mother loves the shoe calendars so much that she keeps and displays them all, no matter what the year, changing the date on each of them every day. She was really upset when a leak in the ceiling ruined one. I will continue my Christmas tradition of the Shoe New Year and purchase the latest edition. I'm a shoe freak, too.

That's Not My Teddy (Usborne Touchy-Feely Board Books)10 reviews
Fiona Watt

Usborne Books, 2008

Fuzzy, Fluffy, Squashy Fun
Our twin babies are enjoying these "That's Not My..." books. These are more engaging than some of the other touchy-feely books we've got. Some books put materials in the pages for the babies to touch, just for the sake of having them there - and the words don't seem to "match up" with the thing we're feeling, or they are so stretched for material that it barely makes sense what we're feeling. ...

Another Great Book for Lovers of Southern Fiction!
The book is set along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia and setting, plot and characters are so realistic one feels he is there among them and sharing in all their experiences. A heartwarming story of a search for new beginnings and the folks who are a part of the search. Excellent, entertaining read!
