Advanced Painter Techniques 2 reviews Don Seegmiller
Sybex, 2008
A Great Teacher! If you are serious about using Painter X, by all means buy this book. Don`s easy way of teaching makes this book very useful and informative. However, this book is not for beginners. You must have some knowledge of the software in order to make the most out of this book. I`d give it ten stars if I could!!

Hackers and Painters: Big Ideas from the Computer Age 54 reviews Paul Graham
O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2004
Unconventional book, unconventional author, surprising points made The book particularly deals with the nexus between programming, creativity, social commentary, wealth-generation, business-personal-entrepreneurial psychology (his specialty!) and LISP-related stuff. I skipped the programming sections because Im not a programmer. The philosophical commentary was better than 90% of other philosophy books I've read, more cutting and more true-to-life.

The Painter X Wow! Book 12 reviews Cher Threinen-Pendarvis
Peachpit Press, 2007
The Painter X Wow I have purchased quite a few books relating Photoshop and Painter, this is the first that has maintained my undivided attention from cover to cover. The layout is different to the other books I have purchased in that it is clear, great layout and has concise instructions in small doses. If you are a starter with Painter go for it. I have picked up quite a few pointers and will continue to use ...

Painter X Creativity: Digital Artist's handbook 7 reviews Jeremy Sutton
Focal Press, 2007
Outstanding book! A wealth of information that would take you months to acquire otherwise. I worked in the past with Painter 4 & 5 years ago. I would have had trouble wading through all the new information.
The cost is a bargain.

The Painter of Battles: A Novel 52 reviews Arturo Perez-Reverte
Random House, 2008
Reverte's Finest Novel to Date I just finished reading this melancholic masterpiece. This is by far, Arturo Perez Reverte's finest book. I am no philosopher, but his ruminations on war, brutality, and man will make you ponder yourself and the darkness in man's soul. That being said, it is a beautiful and short novel that needs to be savored over and over again.
Is man just an observer or does he shape his subjects while ...

Painter in a Savage Land: The Strange Saga of the First European Artist in North America 2 reviews Miles Harvey
Random House, 2008
Excellent storytelling Miles Harvey once again provides an example of excellent storytelling; not only does he give life to an important but relatively unknown period in our collective history, but he excels at crafting a story that subtly ties the past to the present.
I like his exhaustive research, and how he can stick to the facts while exploring possibilities and make relevant the lives of people who previously ...

Digital Painting Fundamentals with Corel Painter X 6 reviews Rhoda Grossman
Course Technology PTR, 2007
Friendly introduction to Painter This is the best book I have found on Painter. I think it will have special appeal to those like me who are not (yet!) professional artists, but wish to learn to paint and draw on the computer. The title says Painter X, but it covers versions 8 thru X. Grossman has a humorous and down to earth teaching style that pulls you right in. She uses a tutorial approach, with 10 main projects and ...

The Watercolor Painter's Pocket Palette 7 reviews
North Light Books, 1991
Fun, fun, fun and useful too! If you want to learn how to mix watercolor without getting "mud" then this is for you. It is not a substitute for the real experience of mixing colors for yourself and watching what happens (such as any blue with cadmium red. Did you get a purple? Hmmm! Interesting!) The section on mixing flesh tones is especially helpful. It's fun just to browse this book and enjoy the tonal variety. A really ...

Excellent reference book for an unseasoned artist I started painting with oils only a few months ago and have aquired several books regardihg oil painting in an effort to examine several points of view on the subject. This book, while it may not be the most helpful to me at this stage in my development, it is simply an excellent source of information for old and new artists alike. The best introduction to Palelithic cave art Having been familiar with the briefest of facts regarding the cave art in France, I was not sure what to expect when I read this book. Let's face it - this is not a frequent part of conversation today.
But what a wonderful book this is. There have been many discoveries now, and the time is right for a well-informed introduction to this subject. Sometimes the questions that are provoked by ...

Painter's Quick Reference - Landscapes (Painter's Quick Reference) 1 review Editors Of North Light Books
North Light Books, 2006
painters quick reference landscapes I bought this book to help me learn how to paint clouds. The book advertised that it would help me turn my fluffy cotton balls into clouds. It didn't. I was very dissapointed with the quality of the paintings done by the demonstrators. I wanted a classical look, not something that looked like a graphic.

The Painter in Oil 5 reviews Daniel Burleigh Parkhurst
Dover Publications, 2006
Classical painters are less dogmatic than modern artists! Great. Clear and concise neo-classical painting technique coupled with beautiful writing on the subject of perception. Soulful.
From the book:
The painter should not be hampered by process; he should not be controlled in the expression of himself by tradition. He should feel free to use any or all means to bring about the result he aims at, and he should allow no tradition or point of view ...
