A Classic
This has been one of our favorite cookbooks since it first came out. Our family and friends have been wowed for the past twenty-five Thanksgivings by our turkey, which is (closely) based on the recipe in this book. The new edition has all the recipes in the old one and more. We'll use it regularly for the NEXT twent-five years!

Cleft Palate Speech is a decent textbook
I haven't read it all yet -- my semester just started. So far I know that this book does not hesitate regarding details. Some chapter sections read almost like an annotated bibliography describing studies in detail. I find it hard to figure out the main point at times, the take home message. Sometimes the section ends with a summary but sometimes it doesn't. When it presents conflicting ...

MOM of a 4-month old baby with cleft of the soft palate
I'm a Mom of a 4-month old baby with a cleft. I also have a M.S. in speech-pathology. (What are the odds?) :) I found this book to be really helpful, because while I attended one of the leading institutions for graduate school, we only had 1 class on Craniofacial Disorders, most of which focused on diagnosis and not on how to do therapy with people with cleft. If you're a therapist reading ...

A Mom Finding the Right Information
As someone who was faced with a new diagnosis for my daughter involving anatomical problems in her airway and palate, this book gave me all the right information I needed at the very beginning of my learning curve. I have continued to return to this book over and over as I have become more educated in the options available to my daughter and in bringing sense to what is, to me, an alien medical ...

Good Food and Two Great Causes
I've tried many of the recipes and they have come out very well so far. My favorites are the shepherd's pie, watermelon salad with fennel and the Mandarin Star martini. The proceeds from this book benefit ovarian and breast cancer research and that alone makes this cook book one of my all time favorites. Add that to the ease and great taste of the recipes and you have a true gem. The recipes ...

Anytime is a good time for this food lovers cookbook.
Food is my passion. I love nothing better than thinking about it; shopping for it in big open markets; preparing it; serving it to others; eating it myself; writing about it and reading inspired cookbooks. Alas, too few cookbooks are inspired and fewer still fire my enthusiasm like the first pair written by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins. The original "Silver Palate" and this "Good Times ...

This pocket-size handbook provides brief summaries about the effects of clefts and non-cleft velopharyngeal inadequacy (VPI) on communication development in children. Its clinical focus covers the diagnosis and management of the resulting disorders with information presented in a quick-reference format, including many bulleted lists, tables, and helpful illustrations. While this book is a complete work on its own, there is some referencing of ...

Great gift book
Friends keep asking me what to get for someone who has just started cooking or turned vegan. Hands down, this is the one and only book I recommend. I bought it four years ago and still use it weekly. It has fool-proof cornbread, hummus, split pea soup, tacos, masoor dal, Thai noodle salad, oatmeal cookies---all the vegan stand-bys. For breakfasts, the scrambled tofu is good, though I had bad luck ...

Unprejudiced palate?
Ms. Waters says that the book should be called "The prejudiced palate", and I agree. Angelo Pellegrini's book is both a cookbook and a gustatory memoir. It reminded me of many foods that I have not had since I was a child growing up in southern Spain, including rabbit, and odd cuts of meat, impossible to find at the local market. This book is a must for anyone interested in basic cooking, able to ...

Great text for graduate students!
I have been teaching a graduate course in cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies for 20+ years. I am thrilled with Dr. Kummer's text. Students love it! It has a strong research base, but the information has excellent clinical application and is very readable with many case studies. Although it is geared toward speech-language pathologists, its multi-disciplinary orientation would make it a ...

A wonderful cookbook
This has long been one of my favorite cookbooks. I have been cooking from it for more than fifteen years now. I have made the onion soup recipe countless times. In addition to the great recipes there are expressions of the authors' strong feminist opinions. I found them stimulating. This is the first in a series of books all of which are excellent.

Excellent introduction to cleft lip & palate
In preparation for possibly adopting a cleft-affected child, I started reading. This is the first book that I picked up and it was an excellent place to begin. It's a quick, easy read that explains the basics in plain English. Along with chapters on surgery options, feeding, possible speech and hearing problems, and teeth development, it includes helpful diagrams and photos. I know there are some ...

Prunes can do wonders!
I had the Chicken Marbella over the holidays and it was wonderful. Full of flavor and the chicken was very moist. It consists of capers, prunes and spanish olives. This dish can be served hot or at room temperature. I would highly recommend this cookbook because the recipes are easy and very tasty.

Yummy Recipes
This is a wonderful cookbook with easy to follow recipes. The book definitely takes advantage of the fruits and vegetables that are available throughout the year. There are a variety of recipes to choose from and the ones I've gotten the best reviews from are the crab dip, carrot cake, and clam chowder. My only complaint about this book is that many of the recipes are very heavy and involve ...

A great mix of art and food by the world's famous artists
This book is a work of art, I learned more about the appreciation of art in the one page introduction than I have in years of reading about art. The unpublished photos of the worlds greatest artist are precious. Most of the recipes are not for me, but I found them interesting. This is a great book to give as a present, every page is full of inspiring visuals of art and food tastefully put ...
