Glacier National Park
This was a great guide for my trip to Glacier. It proved to be invaluable. It detailed hikes, routes, accommodation, dining and wildlife in the park very accurately.Pretty much everything could be taken as fact, such as the overcrowding at Logan's Pass and the side of the car you should sit on if you're nervous of heights whilst on the Going-to-the-Sun road. In fact, at Glacier it was the ONLY ...

Summer 1988. Tompkins Square Park, which long served as a makeshift home for the homeless and a center for social unrest, erupted in violence when the New York City Police and hundreds of rioters clashed over ideological differences. Residents of the Lower East Side, historically home to diverse immigrant communities but facing gentrification, united to protest the 1 a.m. curfew the city was attempting to enforce on the park, in effect banishing ...

A Dark, Exciting, and Engaging Techno-Thriller!
I saw the film JURASSIC PARK and loved it (who didn't?). Steven Spielberg had once again proved his genious. Later, I decided to read the book by Michael Crichton. I loved it just as much, if not more, than the film. It was my first Crichton book, and I was very impressed by his talent of weaving science and probability in his mile-a-minute plot lines. The movie plot closely followed that of ...

If you are a teacher, Get it!
I found this book when I was getting my teaching certification, and wanted to teach a 4th grade class on "Voice" or point of view. It was the basis for a great lesson! I think this could be appropriate for students in 3rd grade up to a basic high school English class. The same event (a trip to the park) is told by 4 distinctly different characters who all encounter each other in the park. So ...

Mansfield Park (Barnes & Noble Classics Series)

Excellent
I think this is my favorite Jane Austen book so far, although I still have Persuasion and Northanger Abbey to read. Most Austen fans would not count Mansfield Park as a favorite, though, at least from what I've heard. It's not that it's a profoundly different book from the more popular Pride & Prejudice or Sense & Sensibility, but many people seem to dislike the main character, or at least are ...

Compact yet comprehensive
Totally awesome guide that rolls through the U.S. geologic areas and the parks occupied within. Nice 5-10 page look at each park, great photos, plenty of details regarding attractions, square miles, trails, fees, etc. Also includes historical details, geologic history, animals and habitat, tips on high traffic vs. low traffic tourist spots, etc. Wonderful book!

A Personal Favourite
If all the Austen books were sisters, Mansfield Park would be the quiet, pensively courageous sibling of the six. Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Persuasion all seem to glow like ladies at a ball. (Northanger Abbey would, I guess, be the sister who plays piano and can't really sing...although she tries...) I felt this novel to have a wonderfully theatrical feel, a closet ...

GREAT RESOURCE FOR FIRST TIME VISITOR
We are planning our first hiking trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park and every hike I have considered is in this book with detailed information about hiking distance, elevation at destination and good descriptions including flora you might encounter on the trail. There are even pictures of frequently sighted flowers and animals. I love Mallitz's formula for difficulty ratings. Now I can ...

beautiful, detailed paintings illustrate witty story
This is a book for very young children, but the illustrations are so lovely and detailed, and the situations depicted so full of wit and little hidden jokes, that I never get bored with it, even after "reading" it over and over and over again with my toddler. This is my very favorite of the Carl books, because the activities are totally non-materialistic and wholesome (riding a merry-go-round ...

This is a beautiful book
I have many travel guides to beautiful places around the United States, but this book is the best I have seen. The photos are stunning, and there is just the right amount of information for a first time traveler to the area. I am really happy that I chose this as my guide to Acadia.

Best Bosch yet
All the entries in the Harry Bosch series have been good, but Echo Park is the best yet. The first few chapters set up the mystery, and from there on out, the action and suspense ratchet up and never stop. Even the final wrap up is a page turner. An open and shut case turns into a first rate conundrum, and Bosch has never been in a tougher position, trying to separate fact from emotion, trying to ...

Savvy and easy (the recipes not the hostesses)
My wife has cooked many of the recipes in the book and they have been incredible meals. Great thing is she says they are mostly easy recipes. Many favorites of these wonderful Park Avenue Ladies. Ladies you will enjoy these classic recipes. Gents, what a wonderful present. Its a great looking book and you'll get to enjoy many wonderful meals when your wife trys these recipes. Not about imperialism or slavery
Since Edward Said wrote his foolish piece on Mansfield Park it has become de rigeur to attach agendas that reflect the intramural (ie bogus) leftism of the academy to novels (sorry texts) Even so this effort to do so in Mansfield Park is particularly outlandish. In fact the question "What is Mansfield Park about" is less interesting than the question "what is it like to read Mansfield Park" To ...

I wish we had bought it earlier
I wish we had known about this book before last summer's trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. The Scotts not only offer advice on which lodges to choose, but also which rooms to request. If we had only known we would have requested one of the several rooms they suggest in the older section of Old Faithful Inn. Oh well, maybe next time. Buy this before you visit a national park.

A Great Choice!
This is a pretty hefty book! And it's a great thing to have. I've utilized the book in planning and visiting 15+ parks/sites and don't have any huge complaints about it. The only things I can think of is that the maps are no different - except smaller and less convenient to use - than the ones they give you when you enter the parks. Maps of the surrounding areas would have been more ...

Its construction is not as durable as one would like for a reference to carry with you while hiking, but what can one expect for that small an asking price? However, the descriptions and maps for each hike are easy to understand--even for the novice hiker. 25 easy hikes are included in the book, with distance, degree of difficulty, time required, and elevation change included. Sinister
When you read Ellis, you expect a twisted darkness that he has become known for. But the thing that fascinated me most with Lunar Park was his ability to combine fact and fiction so cleverly in this narrative. Reader beware that you should be familiar with his earlier works, namely American Psycho, and, to a lesser extent, Less than Zero prior to reading this novel. The first thirty pages ...
