Moshe Yudkowsky

A Genius, An Engineer and An Educator
A genius sees an ordinary events and formulates an extraordinary theory. An engineer applies theory into practical business. An educator explains profound thoughts with simple language. Dr. Moshe Yudkowsky is all of the above. The book, The Pebble and The Avalanche, is brilliant. The theory even applies to China, from the huge tight boulder-like society into pebbles of entrepreneurs. We can ...

Heading to the Wedding6 reviews
Sara Shacter

Red Pebble Books, 2006

A wonderful and funnny story, weather you are going to a wedding or not.
I remember practicing for fancy family gatherings as a child, but it was never this much fun. The first time I read this book it was to my 89 year-old grandmother and my 4 and 8 year-old children. I can't say who enjoyed it more, everyone was laughing out loud! The lesson in the book can apply to any semi-formal gathering and it is a fun book to read anytime.

The Little One Diaries, Volume One6 reviews
Susan Gallaher

Dropping Pebble Press, 1999

Simple, eloquent, earth-shattering
"The Little One Diaries" provides an example of compassion in the face of dispassion, of growing comfortable with the notion of growth, of isness in depth and God in center. I am delighted to have read this very well-written book.

A Pebble To Polish6 reviews
Janet Lord Leszl

BookSurge Publishing, 2007

I love this story!
What a way to learn more about autism! Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. There is so much symbolism throughout this book in the names of the characters and the characters themselves. It's so much more than just fiction. I love the story and the way the author used fiction in order to teach us facts. Cherish the pebbles in your life.

Outstanding Reference
As an Occupational Therapist working in elementary schools, much of my work is helping students find ways to manage their own energy levels and increase their ability to pay attention in class. Excellent book! A "Must Read" for every reading group.
The Truth This book is a must-read for every reading group. It is a book that every high school history teacher should suggest as independent reading for high school students. Every college professor should use it as a supplement to any course on WWII. In addition, the strength of Katherine's character would bring inspiration to any woman's study course. It could be the type of book Anne Frank ...

Richard McKenna

America present at China's emergence as a nation.
"The Sand Pebbles" is an interesting and entertaining novel set in China circa 1925. China is governed by feuding warlords, and its foreign trade is dominated by foreign "treaty powers" including the USA, Japan, and the leading European nations, all of which maintain strong naval and marine forces in China to maintain their positions and protect foreign persons and property. The novel takes ...

The Art of Pebble Mosaics5 reviews
Maggy Howarth

Search Press, 1994

Well done
Of the three books I bought on pebble mosaics this one was the best. There is a history of "floor" mosaics, a detailed discussion, with drawings, of the shape and placement of stones, a lesson on drawing designs to scale, site excavation and preparation. The two step by step projects, a "threshold" mosaic and a dining patio, are both beautiful and do-able. The mosaic on the cover is so ...

Practical, Easy-to-use
As an author of many books for children, I found this book to be one of the most practical and helpful tools to format a picture book during the writing process. I'm already using the techniques to structure new projects to make my picture book manuscripts shine! I plan on recommending it to my critique group as well as buying copies as gifts for my writer friends.

An interesting, fun, easy-to-read history of the "Forgotten Men"
Jerry Stewart has written an interesting, fun, easy-to-read history of the "Forgotten Men", the caddies of Pebble Beach Golf Links. I've enjoyed Jerry's well-written, informative articles in The Monterey County Herald for years and was eager to read his first full-length book. The stories of the colorful caddies, the famous folks they assisted and Pebble Beach are very enjoyable. It's easy ...

A Pebble for Your Pocket5 reviews
Thich Nhat Hanh

Plum Blossom Books, 2002

Anything by this author is good.
My daughter (2) is a little young for this book yet, but I read it and think it is wonderful for children. If you have children about 6 or older who are having a difficult time or are angry about something, this book would be great. Even if your children are happy though, there are wonderful lessons here for everyone and that can help the world to become a more peaceful place.

The Spirit of Clay
This is absolutely the best book on pottery/clay that I have read. It is clearly written, thorough and most of all inspirational. Scott Piepenburg weaves the importance of the reader's personal and spiritual self in relation to working with clay with easy to follow instructional text. Highly recommended!
