Pillars of Prosperity4 reviews
Ron Paul

Mises Institute, 2008

Will America hear his call for sound money?
PILLARS OF PROSPERITY by Dr. Ron Paul I am very happy to review the latest book from Texas congressman Ron Paul. His last book, A Foreign Policy of Freedom, consisted of speeches regarding U.S. interventions from the 1970s to the present day. Similarly, this title collects a career's worth of writings on economics, monetary policy and trade. Economics might not sound like a very exciting ...

Push Not the River71 reviews
James Conroyd Martin

St. Martin's Griffin, 2004

A Polish Love Story in the Time of King Stanislaw
This excellent novel, which gets its name from the Polish proverb "Push not the river; it will flow of its own accord", is the story of two cousins, both countesses, who are in love with the same untitled man in a period of eightieth century history, a time when Russia, Prussia and Austria were bent on conquering and dividing Poland. The characters are well developed, the dialogue is free ...

Sword of Truth, Boxed Set III, Books 7-9: The Pillars of Creation, Naked Empire, Chainfire (Sword Of Truth)18 reviews
Terry Goodkind

Tor Fantasy, 2006

Striking series! Respectful, honorable and endearing!
I've read many a book, but none reach me like this series has. The entire Sword of Truth series, sets a pretty high standard for epic fantasy, let along a good book series. Early books had some places that were a bit clunky, (it was the authors first books if I'm not mistaken), but don't we ALL start out something a bit green, and then hone our skills? The more books by Goodkind you read, you ...

The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem49 reviews
Nathaniel Branden

Bantam, 1995

The only book you need
I've read hundreds of self-help books. When I first read this book 10 years ago, it changed my life. No other book had that power. It gave me the insight to heal all my emotional problems. Partially because this book poses no "short cuts" and is very real. Any negative reviews on here--I've noticed--were written by people who didn't really read the book.

The Pillars of the Earth (Deluxe Edition) (Oprah's Book Club)1278 reviews
Ken Follett

NAL Trade, 2007

Enticing novel indeed
When I finally came to the conclusion that I was to read the Pillars of the Earth for my summer reading, I was rather skeptical that a near thousand page book, dealing with the construction of a cathedral could keep me inspired enough to read it. I was ineffably mistaken. Ken Follet introduces the book in a scene that feels abruptly tossed at us, but is nevertheless a phenomenal foundation to ...

The Seven Pillars of Health54 reviews
Don Colbert, Mary Colbert

Siloam Press, 2007

WOW!!! (there are no words)
The Seven Pillars of Health is an extremely sturdy foundation to build a healthy life! There is SO much information in this book about just about everything related to health. I learned much from this book, and being divided into 50 days was a great way to space out the information. I had only one problem with this book...Dr. Colbert owns his own vitamin company! This was disappointing because it ...

The Three Pillars of Zen: Teaching, Practice, and Enlightenment44 reviews
Philip Kapleau Roshi

Anchor, 1989

The Hell of Zen Books
The title for my review is something I read in the review sections. I am an American, don't speak or write Japanese or Chinese...like most practicing Americans. This means that we for the most part have to trust what the writers of a way purportedly beyond words and letters have to say on reams and reams of paper. PK had the advantage over us in that he had a facility for language and set his ...

Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph53 reviews
T.E. Lawrence

Anchor, 1991

As Confronting As It Is Poetic And Beautiful
TE Lawrence (1888-1935) the British soldier, poet and scholar wrote this insightful personal account of the Arab Revolt based on his war journals which is as confronting as it is poetic and beautiful. How could one not be enthralled by the writings and perspectives of a fine intellectual mind tormented by the reality of war and hypocrisy? What makes this book unique and powerful is Lawrence's ...

World Without End395 reviews
Ken Follett

Dutton Adult, 2007

Why did it have to end? Great book!
Having read "The Pillars of the Earth" earlier this year, I didn't wait long to pick up this volume. The first three hundred pages were very reminiscent of the first book, but then it came into its own. Contrary to the few reviewers on this site who panned the book as dull and its characters as poorly developed, I enjoyed the book thoroughly. In fact, this 60 year old college professor was ...

Four Pillars of a Man's Heart: Bringing Strength into Balance22 reviews
Stu Weber

Multnomah Books, 1999

A Transformed Man
I cannot recommend this book more heartily. It transformed my husband from a bachelor who happened to have a wife and child to a godly, loving, servant leader of our home. This book drove my husband directly to the Word of God where he was challenged to rise to the calling of Biblical manhood. I, his wife, am reaping the benefits of this transformation, the recipient of his tender leadership, ...

Investing the Templeton Way: The Market-Beating Strategies of Value Investing's Legendary Bargain Hunter9 reviews
Lauren C. Templeton, Scott Phillips

McGraw-Hill, 2008

A must read for every stock investor
The Templeton Way is possibly the best book on stock investing that I've ever read. Between this and One up on Wall Street, one will receive the insights need to invest in stocks successfully. One thing that sticks out to me is the simplicity of thought and wisdom that comes from the pages. If you are serious about strengthening your skills as an investor, this book is for you.

The Middle Pillar: The Balance Between Mind and Magic16 reviews
Israel Regardie

Llewellyn Publications, 2002

. . .uh, is this the right edition ?
(revise/augmented, 1/10/'04) Great to study 'The Mystical Qabalah' by Dion Fortune after learning the Mid Pillar technique. Also useful, 'Foundations of Practical Magic,' five essays by Regardie. From there, I disagree with muddying up the picture with books by Ophiel and sych. Regardie didnt. See his book list he recommends in ' Ceremonial Magic,' Israel Regardie. For the beginner, ...

T. D. Jakes

Bethany House, 2003

Work Place problems? read this book and understand them better.
This book gives understanding to why people do and perhaps act the way they do. Its that simple and that clear. TD Jakes writes like he is talking to you. It is a very good read, a must read. I didn't want to put it down. Thank you Mr. Jakes. EI Duran

Five Pillars of the Spiritual Life: A Practical Guide to Prayer for Active People
Robert J. Spitzer

Ignatius Press, 2008

Saint Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, espoused the ideal of becoming "contemplatives in action." He was convinced that contemplation (the deep awareness and appropriation of the unconditional love of God) should affect our actions, and that our actions need to be brought back to contemplation. These five dimensions of the spiritual life: (1) the Holy Eucharist, (2) spontaneous prayer, (3) the Beatitudes, (4) partnership with ...

The Gospel According to John: An Introduction and Commentary (Pillar New Testament Commentary)16 reviews
Donald A. Carson

Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1991

A Sound, Reliable and Illuminating Commentary on John
I keep this book on my desk right beside Craig S. Keener's commentaries. Carson writes clearly and succinctly and touches on almost every mystery of the Gospel that concerns me. I think he is completely correct in his criticism of the skeptics. The book is obviously shaped by immense faith and displays great attention to current scholarship and to the details of the text of John. The book also ...

The Pillars of Creation (Sword of Truth, Book 7)520 reviews
Terry Goodkind

Tor Books, 2002

This is one of the few times that I've taken on science fiction.
The way that the Goodkind tells a story is absolutely amazing. I have read very few if any science fiction books but if they all are as engrossing as this book was I might soon find myself hooked. It would have got 5 stars but do to my lack of experience with the genre I only felt comfortable giving out 4 stars. Do not hesitate to read if you have the time, its well worth it.
