Maddock Douglas endorses "Authenticity" as a masterpiece
I've been pimping this AWESOME book to many of my big brand clients - it is a powerful reinforcement of the idea that strategic clarity = authenticity. Iconic, American brands that are committed to "living what they believe," embrace this "Authenticity" ideology - the book illustrates it very well....the reality is that they (the great brands) are a rare breed....most do not leverage the ...

Lightning from a clear sky
When asked to review JRR Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" - Oxford Don and literary critic C.S. Lewis declared "this book is like lightning from a clear sky. It represents "the conquest of new territory." This is precisely how I felt upon my first reading of "The Experience Economy" by B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore. As I have enjoyed many subsequent readings (9 and counting since my ...

A Wish to Be a Christmas Tree
My daughter brought this book home from her school library and both my husband and I were touched by this book so much that we ordered a copy for our family. This a great book for teaching the true meaning of friendship to all ages. I would recommend this book for anyone who works with children. It will be a tradition in our house for a long no matter what the season.

The grobalization of nothing
McDonalds's is G. Ritzer's perfect paradigm for explaining the actual structure of our planet. He has built his portrait on Max Weber's rationalization concept. This concept expresses man's search for the optimum means to a given end by rules, regulations and larger social structures. Its driving force is economics (capitalism). This concept affects virtually all aspects of our society all over ...

Must reading for Kindle owners
I have owned my Kindle for about six months, am pretty savvy with computers and electronic gadgets, and was somewhat skeptical about what I could learn from a FAQ book, especially since another book about the Kindle that cost $.99 (which I have reviewed) was essentially worthless. Still, after reading the positive reviews, and given the low price, I decided to give this book a chance. Am I ever ...

Worthwhile even for agnostics
Before reading any St. Augustine, I had formed an image of him as an intolerant puritan, almost Taliban-esque. As an agnostic, I did not at all expect to find him a sympathetic figure. The "Confessions," however, reveal a warmly human, hugely intelligent man, relating his own open-minded spiritual journey, which included way-stops at Manicheeism and neo-Platonism. Augustine formulated his ...

Great how-to on adjusting basal, bolus, correction
"Pumping Insulin" is an amazingly good book on insulin pumps. It contains clear instructions on how to adjust basal, bolus, and correction rates as insulin needs change. These tables are particularly valuable for parents of Type 1 diabetics going through puberty. When my daughter got out of her honeymoon period, her A1C scores went from 6.6 to 8.7. "Pumping Insulin" gave me the information ...

A Great Textbook
This textbook was incredibly easy to read. The content was interesting and presented in a very clear, understandable way that was easy to learn from. I didn't have to re-read anything just to get the basic idea like in some text books I've used. The photograph essays scattered throughout the book were on interesting, thought provoking topics.

A classic.
I'd actually give this 4.5 stars if I could. This is a great all around guide for the west side of the Cascades. It doesn't include every plant, particularly in the sections towards the end on bryophytes, but most plants you'll want to see are in there. I'm torn on the aboriginal use data tht is presented throughout the book. On one hand, it really is quite fascinating, but on the other hand, ...

An excellent place to start
I completely agree with Mr. Jones' review. I can name countless books that offer strong arguments and good research. I can also recommend many books that are written with such clear and graceful style that they are a pleasure to read. McMichael is one of the few authors who can manage to combine these two aspects. I thank him for making it both easy and interesting for me to learn about this ...

A thought-provoking overview of ethnicity and race
Ethnicity and race are controversial topics in many respects, but understanding these concepts is an important step in the process of dealing with and confronting the issues they present. This book walks the reader through over a century of social theory on race and ethnicity, dissecting the different theories and pointing out the strengths and weaknesses in each. It also effectively uses ...

The Buddhist text that even cuts like a diamond through Buddhism
Mahayana Buddhism has provided some of the most profound texts for cutting right to the core. The Diamond Sutra even cuts through Buddhist beliefs. In this sutra, the Buddha shows even his most important teachings to be provisional. This and the Heart Sutra are the two most chanted sutras in Zen. In this book, The Diamond Sutra is presented in an unsurpassed English translation. I have read ...

A reader returning to Three Pines will be delighted to find it changed by the events which occurred in Still Life, but unaltered enough to reacquaint us with its charming melange of interesting characters. Media-disseminated messages flood our every waking second, affecting us in ways we often do not readily discern. Croteau and Hoynes take the reader on an exploration of these media forces in a sociological journey that walks then leaps from the birth of printed words for the masses to cyberspace for the individual. In the process, we learn a lot along the way. Not only about media, but, about ...

Complete Review Guide for State and National Examinations in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
This has got to be THE number one quick review book out there for the massage exam! Every single question asked in this book was on the exam and if not in question form it was in the easily formatted reading sections. I liked the space in the borders for writing on and used it for notes. The other book by ashton is good too. I used both and aced the exam!!!

Musings on our many environments from a kindred spirit
"Ecology of a Cracker Childhood" is probably the most moving autobiography I've ever read. By turns heartbreaking, inspirational, and motivational, Ray's story is one of an outsider in every respect; the daughter of a junkyard owner in rural Georgia, she faces a number of obstacles including her father's precarious mental stability. Looking back with a mix of fondness and acceptance rather than ...
