Poaching
[...] Yep, every ridgerunner has at least one story involving a game warden. There are times when they can be annoying, like that time you hit that deer at 1am, only the deer was still twitching and the tire iron was only to put it out of its misery. After all, if you were going to jacklight deer, wouldn't you have a spotlight and a loaded tire iron, and still have an intact radiator? There's ...

A wake-up call for all who appreciate American wildlife.
Reisner is an exhaustive researcher, who then parlays massive factual data into readable, entertaining (sometimes disturbing) prose. I found Game Wars to be more reader-friendly than Cadillac Desert in that the book moved faster and showed me a very human side of wildlife law enforcement. Through Reisner, I was taken along on numerous exciting U.S. Fish & Wildlife missions, including several ...

An intriguing look at our national parks
"Conservation" seems like a completely positive word--e.g., we want to preserve nature for future generations. I remember how in awe I was when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. But after reading Jacoby's book, I feel like I have a whole new perspective. Not that I don't agree that protecting the environment shouldn't be a high priority--for example, I think the idea of drilling into ...

The BEST cookbook in YEARS
It doesn't get any better than this. Tremendously useful and clever recipes, charming stories, rich humor, and beautiful artwork, all from the hands and mind of one remarkable person. I had the priviledge of reading an advance copy of this book, and I have already woven some of the clever stories in this book into MY fiction work. There simply has not been a better cookbook in years, and yet ...

Lookout poachers, here comes Terry
This book is for anyone that enjoyes and cares about our American Wildlife. With little support from the government and even less cash,Terry Grosz and his officers performed miracles to catch all sorts of bad guys. Just how this was accomplished is what makes it so interesting. This book will leave you laughing, crying and angry enough to write to every official you can reach. Terry loved ...

Outstanding Analysis of the Culture of Television Fandom
Culture studies has been one of the most provocative and controversial areas of investigation in the social sciences during the last score years or so. Using the tools of postmodern analysis of texts, and the deconstruction of ideas, institutions, and forms scholars have reshaped our understanding of everything from the mundane to subjects acknowledged by all as critical to our modern society. In ...

Poachers Caught, Nick
What can I say but that this was probably the most interesting and intriging book I have ever read! It was so funny it kept me up all night laughing and wanting to read more! The fact that it is all real only added the hystericle excitement. It was witty and fun with a hint of sadness for the abused resources. It really made me respect conservation officers more, and oppreciate their work.

A Unique Blend of the Outdoors and Whodunit Mystery
Joseph Heywood's excellent second volume addition to his Woods Cop series! Especially for those who love the outdoors as seen from the sportsman's perspective, police investigation mystery enthusiasts, and most particularly those who have a personal knowledge of various locations and the culture in Michigan's Upper Pennisula (U.P.). While some readers may find Heywood's character development and ...

Another great installment in the series
These books are an amazing series. They really provide a true spy series appropriate for young children. The "spies" are part of the GPF - Global Protection Force - an international spy ring devoted to promoting justice and made up entirely of kids. The books have great gadgets - this one features a Power Pogo Stick which allowed Jack, the protagonist, to leap 15 feet in the air and help him ...

We're All a Little Bit of a Scoundrel
For anyone who has shot a deer out of season, a wild turkey out his dining room window, or cast a line into a well-stocked (but private) pond, (or has seriously considered doing any of the above), A Poacher's Way will stimulate your pulse. Our protagnist, Shino, shines a clear, albeit morally equivocal light on the fine art of taking from the wild what should be yours, and would be, too, if the ...

Ever caught a phesant for dinner?
This very informative book tells how the masters of the game could consistantly put food on table. This book goes further than teaching the reader how to trap small animals and catch a fish on the sly it tells how the true hunter will watch game and read their patterns of behavior more than they will actually spend on the hunt. Reading this book will teach that luck plays no part in a ...
