Meg Jacobs
Princeton University Press
, 2007
"How much does it cost?" We think of this question as one that preoccupies the nation's shoppers, not its statesmen. But, as Pocketbook Politics dramatically shows, the twentieth-century American polity in fact developed in response to that very consumer concern. In this groundbreaking study, Meg Jacobs demonstrates how pocketbook politics provided the engine for American political conflict throughout the twentieth century. From Woodrow ...

Fantastic!~
This is truly a wonderful book! This story is told by the little girl who is going to town with her mother for the morning. She has a big green pocketbook, just like Mama's, but hers is empty and she can't find anything to put inside it. Mama says "hurry", because the bus is coming, so the little girl brings her empty pocketbook along anyway. During the course of the morning, she gathers many ...

Why government planning fails.
In his 48 chapters O'Toole covers a wide range of government planning efforts. Rather than a complaint only about the disastrous consequences of a specific government planning effort, he shows why such efforts are doomed by the very incentives that motivate government. He has many years of first-hand exposure to the Congressionally mandated planning process for our national forests. He argues ...

A Wonderful companion
It is amazing how such a small book could contain such a collection of vital and important information that you might need while practicing in the shift. The classifications presented in this pocket book of the different scales, criterias, and classes of diseases is absolutely great. Essential for the house officer
This is a thorugh review of pediatrics in a concise format. It is easy to read and intuitive in its use. As a family physician resident, I wonder how I got so far along without it. Harriet Lane is great, it just doesn't fit so nicely in my coat's pocket :)
