The Story She Needs to Tell
The sad, sad life of a woman trapped in a polygamous marriage. Trapped because she is afraid to experience change even if it can only be for the better and trapped because if it were a monogamous marriage she would be able to love the weak man she married. Reading the book, you know her life could only improve if Irene were to leave her life of poverty, of constant hunger and lack of clothing ...

Shocking, shocking and shocking!
This numbers among most of the most shocking books I have ever read and I am 71 years old and have read a great deal. It numbers right up there with works about the Holocaust, Soviet communism, and other disgusting things that have taken place in this world. I appreciate Mr. Singular's expose of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints Church and I would warn regular Mormons that you are going to be ...

This book is so accurate!
I found this book very enlightening. I learned a lot about a group of people I knew little about. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to know the truth about the society in Colorado City/Hildale. The author is not interested in sensationalism, but in reporting the truth. I moved to an area just south of these twin towns - found the people interesting and the book helps me to understand ...

A unique history of a idiosyncratic group
Ben Bistline's history of the First Ward of Colorado City is unique excursion into a secretive group dedicated to a non-mainstream set of beliefs and practice. The Colorado City Polygamists is the shorter version of this history and is more suited to the general (and in particular) non-LDS reader. While a background in restorationist religious history is useful it is not essential to enjoying ...

Does this lady proof her work?
I quit reading this book as incorrect information was written just a few pages from the start. Abraham, in the Bible, did not sleep with "Hannah" as Dr. Western says. Sarah gave Hagar, her handmaiden, to Abraham to sleep with so that Sarah could have the child produced from that union. If the name was incorrect there, then how could I believe anything else written in her book.

Gut wrenching!
Once I opened the cover, I couldn't put the book down! As a transplant to Utah, I was fascinated with some of the polygamist history that has continued to thrive in some Utah cultures. The first hand account in this book made the reading all the more fascinating...& you find yourself on the edge of your seat...anxious to know the outcome!

He Loves MeShe Loves Me Not: A Polygamist Wifes Story
Stacie Lee Hewitt
PublishAmerica
, 2007
Stacie Lee Hewitt lives in a small town in the West, and has been a polygamist wife for over twenty years. While she is happy with the lifestyle and thankful for the way she lives, she shows a realistic view of what tribulations a person might face when bringing up a large family. She also wants to portray, with humor, how more than one woman can live in the same household, be married to the same man, and not kill each other.
Misers, Shrews, and Polygamists: Sexuality and Male-Female Relations in Eighteenth-Century Chinese Fiction
Keith McMahon
Duke University Press
, 1995
Having multiple wives was one of the mainstays of male privilege during the Ming and Qing dynasties of late imperial China. Based on a comprehensive reading of eighteenth-century Chinese novels and a theoretical approach grounded in poststructuralist, psychoanalytic, and feminist criticism, Misers, Shrews, and Polygamists examines how such privilege functions in these novels and provides the first full account of literary representations of ...
