A Must-Read for Moms
I found two things to be most helpful about this book: 1) the information on the essential fatty acids that young children need in their diets from flax oil, evening primrose, cod liver oil, etc, especially if they have allergies; and 2) the specific doses of certain vitamins and minerals for each age group. My son's allergies to milk and wheat are gone, in part, I believe because I ...

Great for a new pumper or someone who cares about one
I've been a Type 1 (IDDM) diabetic for over 15 years. I was lucky in the sense that I didn't get it until college, so I didn't have to deal with it as a child. However, diabetes at any age is tough. The insulin dependent kind in particular is tough because no amount of exercise or weight loss is going to reverse it. However, there is one thing that can come close, insulin pump therapy. ...

Best and most thorough guide to fetal alcohol syndrome
After reading Dr. Streissguth's book on fetal alcohol syndrome, I feel this book should be given to every parent or caretaker who receives this diagnosis about their child. This is the most thorough book I have found on this subject. Dr. Streissguth's knowledge in this area is so extensive and her book offers a step by step approach and guidelines on what you will need to know to in raising ...

Helped me carry my baby to term
This book combined with Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler helped me prevent a third miscarriage and carry my beautiful little girl to term. What a shame it is out of print. Perhaps there is similar information in another book. The way it helped me was specifically the information regarding treatment options for low progesterone. Using the Weschler book, I was able to diagnose ...

Wonderfully educational, painfully true.
As a breastfeeding advocate myself, I wish that all young men and women were required to read this in high school, before parnethood. This book lets the reader see the conection between money, big business, and formula marketing. The book educates on the vast differences between artifical feeding and human milk, differences that the general population is unaware of. If you want to get ...

BEST COOKBOOK EVER - could only be better if it was twice as long!
I'm not pregnant, and neither is anyone in my family, but this is simply the BEST cookbook I've ever purchased. My husband and I are living with my fifty year old parents and my teenage sisters, and I am the only one in the family who likes to eat healthy. I've been cooking healthy recipes from other cookbooks, only to get grumpy looks and half-eaten portions from my family members. Along ...

Fantastic Idea
Herrera's workouts are a great way to stay in shape while pregnant, and a great way to share the experience of pregnancy with your partner in a new way. My husband and I found this book after I had been feeling tired and unhealthy because I was no longer able to continue my usual, non-pregnant workout. We started using Herrera's book guidelines for excercising together and things have been ...

You can prevent ECLAMPSIA, HELLP, PIH, etc.
What your OB/GYN may not know! My parents wrote this and other books in the 60's and 70's based on my father's (Dr. Thomas H. Brewer, Tulane University School of Medicine '51) experience as an OB/GYN and medical researcher on pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, PIH, IUGR, etc. He terms this condition Metabolic Toxemia of Late Pregnancy (MTLP). Great book for prego women! Essential information in here!
I bought this book after listening to the author on a podcast show for pregnant women. Even tho I had found a lot of information about what to eat when I'm pregnant (and what NOT to eat), this book cut thru the confusion, organized the information and made clear to me what was important. I also learned from this book that being pregnant does NOT mean that I am eating for two, and in fact, ...

I needed a book that my nine-year-old daughter and I could use together as she enters adolescence: not too complicated, not too simple, but clear and honest in ways with which we both were comfortable. I read six other similar books before choosing Growing Up, which was the best by far. It does just what we needed it to do without getting past her level of maturity and readiness. The ...

This is a great book.
When my daughter was about 10 I realized that my technique of answering questions she asked but not going into more detail than she asked about no longer worked. She suddenly knew just enough to be embarrassed to ask about anything! She really hated it if I brought The Subject (sex) up, so thinking that she just didn't want to associate The Subject with her mother (I can certainly understand ...

Excellent New Mom Resource
This book is great in a lot of ways. I really like how it goes through the entire year, not just a few months. I also like how it addresses exercise, nutrition and mental health. As a new mom, there are definitely some weeks that my mental health needs a boost -- this book delivers a year's worth of pointers. You can tell the author just went through this experience herself.
