Complete Book of U.S. Presidents: From George Washington to George W. Bush 41 reviews William Degregorio
Gramercy, 1997
Should be part of everyone's library! This is by far the best and most entertaining book on the U.S. Presidents I have found. I am constantly referring to it when I am watching or reading anything having to do with U.S. political History.
If you're a history buff and watch things like the John Adams mini series this is a book to keep on your coffee table near the TV. It makes a great companion to other books on history as well.

great! more books like this please! Grace discovers that no women have ever been president, and decides she'll be president one day. The teacher (hooray for her!) picks up on this and decides to run a school-wide election for president to teach the kids about presidential politics - including the unfathomable electoral college! At first no one challenges Grace, and she thinks "becoming president will be easy" but then a white boy ...

So You Want to be President? 43 reviews Judith St. George
Philomel, 2008
Great Book for All Ages I feel that this is a great book for all ages. It is full of interesting facts about past Presidents. The book points out some good things and some bad things about being the President. I think that kids would be interested in this book because it gives real life details of some past Presidents that most kids can relate to. They may find that they have things in common with some of these past ...

Mama for President: Good Lord, Why Not? 1 review Vicki Lawrence, Monty Aidem
Thomas Nelson, 2008
Same Old Mama! "Mama for President: Good Lord Why Not?" is written by Vicki Lawrence in the character of Mama Thelma Harper. Like the Mama people have come to love from the show "Mama's Family," she is still as grumpy as ever in this hilarious book. Her wisecracking remarks hit on topics people think about with regards to politics but never seem to get answers to. Each chapter is broken up into subjects ...

Duck for President 43 reviews Doreen Cronin
Atheneum, 2008
"WITH A QUACK QUACK HERE, AND A QUACK QUACK THERE." If you're having trouble choosing a candidate in this election year, Duck's your man or more properly "your duck." "Duck is Great for 2008!"
In this delightful children's story our hero may be a winner but he was once a very dissatisfied duck. He lived on a farm with many other animals and Farmer Brown. Each of the animals had a chore, and Duck thought farm work was terribly hard. So, ...

All the President's Men 92 reviews Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein
Pocket, 2005
How the Washington Post Lucked into Watergate In this book Bob Woodard and Carl Bernstein, two Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post reporters, chronicle their investigation of the Watergate scandal, which began as a burglary of the Democratic National Committee Headquarters on June 17, 1972. They explain the events that precipitated their first suspicions and led them to ascertain the truth. There is some strong language. A must read for ...

By Order of the President 84 reviews W. E. B. Griffin
Jove, 2005
Another new series! I was so excited to begin this new W.E.B. Griffin series, and this book didn't disappoint. Charley Castillo I think will be a force to be reckoned with. In this book Griffin touches on terrorism and life in a post-911 America. We have a wonderful bunch of new characters that I can't wait to get to read more about. As usual Griffin can write a story! He does go into a lot of detail about the ...

Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals 20 reviews Shane Claiborne, Chris Haw
Zondervan, 2008
Powerful book Let me just say that the book is a powerhouse. The book covers a lot of ground in relatively little text (it seems long but the font is huge and there are illustrations all over the place). Someone made the decision that the book should be wildly decorative, which I actually thought worked well with the content, because it's definitely not meant to be chewed over academically - rather the book ...

Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America's Reputation and Leadership 16 reviews Madeleine Albright
Harper, 2008
Advice diplomatically presented -- with humor Ms. Albright states that her latest book is the product of many minds. Broad themes, opinions about the Bush Administration, and general advice are consistent with her earlier books. In addition, her writers and editors have produced exceptionally clear prose. Muddy concepts are clarified, anecdotes are brief and pithy, and many dots are connected. Some tightly written paragaraphs are quotable ...

Secret Lives of the U.S. Presidents 21 reviews Cormac O'Brien, 2004
Knee-Jerk Reading Nearly as interesting as this charming book was a read through its Amazon reviews. While SECRET LIVES is certainly praised herein, it's also lambasted for being too partisan left, or partisan right, or for not being titillating enough.
Yeesh. It must be hard to read a book when one's knee is jerking involuntarily.
One of the most critical (and currently highlighted) reader reviews takes ...

The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House 28 reviews Nancy Gibbs, Michael Duffy
Center Street, 2007
Thoroughly enjoyable with one exception A fascinating read and deservedly praised, I found this book hard to put down until Chapter 31 on Billy's acquaintance with the Clintons. That chapter had a false ring - a different tone from the rest, that smacked me in the face. With so few comments there in Billy's words, as were heavily used in the chapters about other presidents, the writers droned on and on in their attempt to paint the ...

President Lincoln: The Duty of a Statesman 4 reviews William Lee Miller
Knopf, 2008
Presidential Honor Will be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in our greatest president and his time in office. Professor Miller is a wonderful master of his subject.
Abraham Lincoln is rightfully remembered here for the actions he took during the short time he actually served in the White House. This is not a book about Mr. Lincoln's youth, his career in Illinois, or his family life. How this statesman balanced ...
