Little Girls in Pretty Boxes: The Making and Breaking of Elite Gymnasts and Figure Skaters140 reviews
Joan Ryan

Grand Central Publishing, 2000

A real eye opener
I got this book years ago. As the mother of a competitive ice skater I WAS INTERESTED in reading about skaters and gymnasts at the elete level. I was so shocked to read how our national gymastics team was trained. The story of Julissa Gomez was heart-breaking to read. No child deserves that. If any parent is thinking of enrolling their daughter in gymnastics I would highly recomend this book.

Me Talk Pretty One Day726 reviews
David Sedaris

Back Bay Books, 2001

Laugh Out Loud Funny & Great Insight Into Life
This is the first Sedaris book I've read and I want to read all his others ASAP. I literally laughed out loud through many of the autobiographical essays. While reading at a hotel pool on vacation, I had to get up and move away from all the other people, so I wouldn't disturb them with my uncontrollable laughter. Sedaris' "worldview" is quirky but accurate. His life experiences are often ...

Pretty Little Liars #4: Unbelievable (Pretty Little Liars)11 reviews
Sara Shepard

HarperTeen, 2008

Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily are back, some in a better state than others, and ready to bring down A. When we last left the pristine Rosewood, Hanna had just discovered who A was, but she knew too much and A made sure she couldn't say anything by "accidentally" hitting her with a car. Now, as Hanna fights for her life, the other three girls have to clean up the mess that A has made. ...

No Pretty Pictures: A Child of War33 reviews
Anita Lobel

Collins, 2008

Wonderfully riveting Holocaust story. Life affirming!
This book is a tragic adventure. Anita Lobel recalls the arrival of the Nazis and the end of her childhood as she knew it. I was thankful this book was a fast read, the suspense of what would happen to Lobel and her brother was too much at times. The writing is beautiful and appropriate for young readers as well as adults. Beautiful photos.

Don't think for a second more, buy this book - it's GORGEOUS!
Oh My God, don't delay another second, buy this book. It's totally gorgeous, I LOVE it. I only bought it last week and have already made several things and flicked through it a million times. The pictures are adorable, the patterns sooooo simple to use and lots of them. Definitley definitley worth the money. The other Tilda books are equally as fabulous! I have pics of the teddy bears on my ...

All the Pretty Horses294 reviews
Cormac Mccarthy

Vintage, 1993

Definitely a Acquired Taste
I have looked at some of the reviews here, and am a bit surprised as the number of people who hated this book. It is a challenge to read, but this is no "Ulysses." The main themes can be understood with a little careful attention. Some have compared McCarthy's style to Hemingway's but this is not a fair comparision. McCarthy's prose is far more complex. Hemingway wrote arresting prose, but at ...

Pretty Little Pincushions9 reviews
Lark Books

Lark Books, 2007

Cute and practical
There are a lot of designs in this book that use materials that you already have in your sewing room (mostly felt), and they are quick to make. My favorites are the bottle cap pin cushions, they are addicting! Some of the designs pictured in the book give you ideas of how to modify the basic pincushions, but there are no specific instructions on how to make those modifications. It may be a ...

Pretty Little Liars29 reviews
Sara Shepard

HarperTeen, 2007

Desperate Housewives' Secret Lovechild on the Loose!, Pt. I
Remember the first season of "Desperate Housewives"? This first installment is better than that! The first book of this highly addictive series starts with former BFFs Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily receiving disturbing e-mails and texts from someone called "A". "A" seems to know there deepest, darkest secrets from their past and their present. Could "A" be Allison, their former Queen Bee and ...

Sew Pretty Homestyle
Love this book, it is the perfect book to snuggle up with on the davenport, wrapped in ones favorite quilt & a cup of tea near by. Some may consider it a coffee table book, but I enjoyed leisurely turning the pages and dreaming of the things I might someday make. Luv it!

Liv's Book Reviews
So maybe this wasn't the greatest book to read while on a vacation, but I got so wrapped up in it that the fact that it was filled with raw emotion and heavy ideas, didn't really register with me. I think there's only a certain number of authors who can pull off a story like this one while making it realistic and addicting at the same time. The subject matter was far from light and I was glad for ...

Pretty-shield (Second Edition): Medicine Woman of the Crows (Second Edition)4 reviews
Frank B. Linderman

Bison Books, 2003

A Touching and Moving Account
I was engrossed with Pretty Shields story from the moment it began. It was wonderful to read of a native woman's life, before "the buffalo went away". Life then was simpler and so full of joy, as well as so many hardships, but the spirit that is brought across is inspiring and uplifting. A wonderful and engrossing read from beginning to end. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone ...

Pretty Is What Changes: Impossible Choices, The Breast Cancer Gene, and How I Defied My Destiny19 reviews
Jessica Queller

Spiegel & Grau, 2008

Great read!!!
I read this book in one day. It's a great read. Jessica really makes you think about your options. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and the BRCA test has always been in the back of my mind. It's definitely something that needs more discussing.

Pretty Little Liars #3: Perfect (Pretty Little Liars)13 reviews
Sara Shepard

HarperTeen, 2008

The Perfect Title for A Perfect Book
Once apon a time there were four perfect little girls. Their names were Ali, Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily. Spencer was the perfectionist who had a bad habit of stealing her sister's boyfriends and has a hot temper. Hanna will do anything to be perfect, which includes being bulimic and shoplifting. Aria is trying to keep her disfunctional family together while dating her English teacher. And ...

Pretty Little Mistakes39 reviews
Heather McElhatton

Headline Review, 2008

Possibly the coolest book I've ever read!
I began reading this book yesterday, determined to get to all 150 endings, and I'm not even close! I'm hooked on the book's unique "choose your own adventure" format, and it's exciting to see which funny, surreal, romantic, or morbid "plot" will come next. So far the protagonist has joined a cult, joined the circus, become a witch, had an encounter with the Mafia, become a doctor in a small ...

Pretty Little Liars #2: Flawless (Pretty Little Liars)19 reviews
Sara Shepard

HarperTeen, 2007

Ahhh what happens next??
So suspenseful. Gosh my heart was racing towards the end of this story. You find out some very valuable secrets such as "The Jenna Thing" and remeber that comprimise Ali made with Toby that led Toby to confess to setting off the fireworks. Well Ali had to keep his secret in order for Toby to keep Ali's, Spencer's, Hanna's, Aria's, and Emily's secret, which is revealed and those secrets are juicy, ...
