The Paper Bag Princess (Classic Munsch) 106 reviews Robert N. Munsch
Annick Press, 1992
she doesn't end up with the prince one of the reasons this story is great is because its one of the few books where the story doesn't end with the girl getting a guy. princesses and romance go hand in hand, even when the princess is a tough, adventure-seeking, swash-buckling tomboy, for the most part they end up with a guy. in fact stories with female protagonists that don't end up with a guy could probably be counted on one hand, ...

Le Petit Prince (French Language Edition) 68 reviews Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Harvest Books, 2001
Incroyable! This is probably one of the best books I have ever read. We read it in my fourth year french class, right before graduation. It is such a simple tale wherein lies a deep and meaningful message. It is open for interpretation, which is part of what makes it so great. You really have to think in order to gather the entire message. I hope to purchase the french version soon.

Profit from the Peak: The End of Oil and the Greatest Investment Event of the Century (Angel Series) 3 reviews Brian Hicks, Chris Nelder
Wiley, 2008
Well written, lots of graphs and charts, packed full of facts. This book is an exciting read. Starts out with a history of oil and develops into fossil fuel alternatives. The author builds a convincing case that we are on the verge of peak oil production and how we need to prepare with the decline.

The Queen's Fool: A Novel 173 reviews Philippa Gregory
Touchstone, 2004
No Foolin' Right after I finished The Other Boleyn Girl I had to pick this one up and continue, sort of, the story.
I liked Hannah well enough. I could see many traits in her that I see in myself. Surprisingly one situation she has in extremely close to one I had, and it was interesting to see someone elses take on it, even if the person is fictitious. I was a bit bored with her always talking about her ...

Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America 1069 reviews Barbara Ehrenreich
Holt Paperbacks, 2002
Compelling and Maddening This book has a very promising premise, one that many middle- or upper-class people living in the United States never examine: what life is like for those trying to survive on minimum-wage salaries. The author travels from city to city, going through the process of trying to put down roots, and dealing with the difficulty in starting a new life, wrestling especially with the question of how to ...

Trend Following: How Great Traders Make Millions in Up or Down Markets, New Expanded Edition, (Paperback) 75 reviews Michael W. Covel
FT Press, 2007
Great Read I bought both of this author's books on the recommendation of Amazon. The first book, the Complete TurtleTrader was the one that I read first. I wish I would have read them in reverse. Trend Following built up the story. After reading Trend Following I went back and read the Complete TurtleTrader again.
What made the book great? Well like most reading these types of books, I am a person ...

Sir Cumference and the First Round Table: A Math Adventure 18 reviews Cindy Neuschwander
Charlesbridge Publishing, 1997
Great Way Of Sneaking In Math! My daughter has always had a problem learning Math but reading this book (along with the others in this series) has helped her immensely! The books themselves are a bit young for her but the concepts in them (Pi, Geometry, etc) are explained in a way I think she needed.
I would recommend these to anyone who has a child with problems in math concepts.

Murder of a Medici Princess 1 review Caroline P. Murphy
Oxford University Press, USA, 2008
A Renaissance woman's tragic fate Isabella de' Medici (1542-1576) sparkled among the glittering ruling family of Florence, but she was tragically snuffed out in the prime of her life. In a further injustice, her brother Francesco, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, tried to erase her from memory, an injustice that Caroline Murphy has done an admirable job of rectifying in this fascinating biography of Isabella.
Isabella was the third ...

The Interior: A Red Princess Mystery (Red Princess Mysteries) 2 reviews Lisa See
Random House Trade Paperbacks, 2007
I am hooked! I have to admit I have read every one of Lisa See's books. The Inspector Liu/Attorney Stark books are very different from her other books (Peony in Love, Snow Flower & the Secret Fan, On Gold Mountain), but what I love about this author is that each of her book is unique and full of surprises. I came across Dragon Bones first and was hooked! At that time it was very hard to get a copy of The ...
