Privatization and Public-Private Partnerships 3 reviews E. S. Savas
CQ Press, 1999
media wants to burn this and suppress it Is awesome to see ideas outside the mainstream. Most people today like monarchy. Kings are obsolete. Let people do as they please and the inefficiency will be squirted free like bad zits. Rmoving the rules that govern is privatization. Privatizing education alone would lead to much smarter people. Let all the rules that restrain people from creating good go away. Watch life improve. think ...

True Economics This book really does show true economic principles. It gives the behind the scenes look at what is really taking place economically. Why do things happen the way they do? This book really allows the everyday reader to understand the ...

The Private Abuse of the Public Interest: Market Myths and Policy Muddles (Chicago Studies in American ... 1 review Lawrence R. Jacobs
University Of Chicago Press, 2008
"Markets Good, Government Bad" Is a Silly Approach to Governing This is excellent political science and public policy analysis critiquing a philosophy and approach to policymaking that the authors term "market utopianism". It is grounded in a look at how several market-based public policy approaches in 3 areas--health care (HMOs, for-profit health insurance) example), education (public school choice, charter schools, and private school vouchers), and ...

Public and Private Families: An Introduction 2 reviews Andrew J Cherlin
McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2006
Recommended I am a Sociology and Psychology double major taking a Bachelor's level Marriage and Family sociology class, and I think this book is great! Many textbooks, even in sociology(!), can be dull, but I am finding this book to be a very good read. Very informative and thought-provoking. Statistics in the forms of graphs and tables are also helpful. I also think viewing the family as having a ...

Public-Private Policy Partnerships Pauline Marie Rosenau
The MIT Press, 2000
Partnerships between the public and private sectors to fulfill public functions are on the increase at every level of government. In the United States and Canada they currently operate in most policy areas, and in the U.S. trial programs are planned by the Internal Revenue Service, the Census Bureau, and the Social Security Administration. Partnerships represent the second generation of efforts to bring competitive market discipline to bear ...

Security Management Magazine Review This book examines the concept of private security companies providing community-oriented crime prevention on a contract basis. Public and Private Families: A Reader 1 review Andrew J Cherlin
McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2006
Where are the men? This book was used as a textbook for a sociology of family class.
One interesting observation is that there is an odd absence of studies and articles concerning men. I am not sure if this is because of the body of research out there or because this particular author chose to disregard those studies. Overall, nice balance of pro- and anti-traditional family input.

Economics: Private and Public Choice 10 reviews James D. Gwartney, Richard L. Stroup, ...
South-Western College Pub, 2008
When did textbooks become so interesting? I concur with the other reviewers...this is one textbook that is worth every dollar. The authors use color and layout so well in their instruction...a wonderful feature since economics, even with all its fancy graphs, can be very boring. The text is even engaging. It's a bookshelf staple for anyone who is interested in economics, student or not.

Beautiful Investigation of Connectedness I enjoyed this book so greatly. I love the way Mary Felstiner approaches the subject of joints, jointedness, connection, from such varied angles, using documents of cultural, personal, and medical history. Magnificent!! What a huge accomplishment this book represents. Apart from all else, I've learned a staggering amount from this gifted author about the body in a cultural context, and this ...

This Book is the Bible for New York Parents This is an amazing resource. Although, guide books for college and graduate schools have been around for some time, before Victoria Goldman there were no usable private school guides. Excellent general work with welcome detail for experts, this is indispensible Yescombe's "Public-Private Partnerships" is a welcome helpful book, especially for non-experts who have not been educated in law.
Any contract or capital structure has peculiarities unto itself which general commentary can summarize. But this is an extreme challenge in the field of public-private partnerships.

Lying: Moral Choice in Public and Private Life 23 reviews Sissela Bok
Vintage, 1999
Clearly Written and Argued This book could be a model of how to make ethical arguments more accessible to general readers. One of the better books I have read. It helps show that the arguments against lying and dishonesty are fairly clear cut and much more restrictive than many seem to believe.

PIPEs: A Guide to Private Investments in Public Equity: Revised and Updated Edition 7 reviews
Bloomberg Press, 2005
Highly Recommended! This is an excellent and comprehensive introduction to PIPEs. The acronym stands for Private Investment in Public Equity, and this includes not only common stock but warrants and other permutations of equity. Companies often issue PIPEs when they need capital but when market conditions make it imprudent to raise funds through a public offering. Most PIPEs investors are sophisticated institutions, ...
