A Tooth Story (Ready-to-Read) 1 review Margaret McNamara
Aladdin Library, 2004
Good for 1st grader who is not an early reader This book was good for my son who is in 1st grade, but not an early reader. The story line, as in the entire series, is slightly different from other early readers. In this case, one of the students has not lost a tooth yet. Because the boy later loses two teeth in a playground crash, my son loved the book. He was proud to be able to read the book, related to the tooth loss since three of his ...

Sailing for Gold (Ready-for-Chapters) 2 reviews Deborah Hopkinson
Aladdin Library, 2003
Great series for boys My son loves this book. It was on his summer reading list, and it's just at the perfect level for beginning or reluctant readers. Our family is headed for a summer vacation in Seattle, and we can't wait to go to the Klondike National Park in Pioneer Square and imagine what the streets looked like in 1897!

Clouds (Ready-to-Read) 1 review Marion Dane Bauer
Aladdin Library, 2004
Good non fiction book for early readers! I purchased Wind, Rain, Clouds and Snow. Wonderful short science books and very easy for young readers. My 5 year old twins love to read their 'science' books. It is difficult to find simple non fiction books for this age group, but these are perfect fit.

The Sunset Gates 1 review Kathleen Duey
Aladdin Library, 2002
The Sunset Gates I bought this book for my 10 year old daughter to read. She has been reading the series and she loves them. They are a great first reader chapter book for kids. She didn't feel intimadated at all' like she did with some other book series. It's a great started set.

Cora Frear (Brave Kids/Ready-for- Chapters) 3 reviews Susan E. Goodman
Aladdin Library, 2002
Wonderful read! Brave kids: Cora Frear is a true historical account of a young doctor's daughter out on the prairie at the turn of the century. Cora helps keep her doctor father company on long rides to outlying farms. In this stirring episode, she is able to help save her father, herself, and the horses from certain death by a prairie fire. An endnote explains that she also helped him with his surgeries a ...

Albert Einstein: Genius of the Twentieth Century (Ready-to-Read) 1 review Patricia Lakin
Aladdin Library, 2005
Great easy to read biography For kids who are not quite sure biographies are cool, this will lead them into Einstein's life with ease. Reading level is about third-grade, illustrations are great (I love one with him sticking out his tongue), glossary, bibliography, timeline, website referrals at the back will help kids who are doing research. Part of a series that also includes Wright Brothers, Teddy Roosevelt, other ...

The Long Trail (Ready-for-Chapters) 2 reviews Deborah Hopkinson
Aladdin Library, 2004
My kids love this series There are so few historical fiction series for young readers that also have good stories. This is one. Both my boys are reluctant readers, and they really enjoyed another series by Hopkinson, Prairie Skies. When we found SAILING FOR GOLD in her new Klondike Kid trilogy, they were so excited. Well, this one is as good as the last. Recommended!

Mister Bones: Dinosaur Hunter (Ready-to-Read) 1 review Jane Kurtz
Aladdin Library, 2004
A good book for my dinosaur crazy kid. This is a good children's book if your kid doesn't mind a little history. Its about the man who found the first T-Rex bones in Montana. Not your normal children's book, but very educational and an easy read.

Our Kansas Home 2 reviews Deborah Hopkinson
Aladdin Library, 2003
Civil War Here is another book by Hopkinson, but this time a chapter book story for older elementary. This story is about a boy whose family is fighting in the Civil War and his personal experience with finding a runaway slave. The book contains interesting pencil drawings to illustrate the story. Besides the obvious bridge to Civil War history, the availability of multiple books by this author could ...

Prairie Skies: Pioneer Summer (Ready-for-Chapters) 5 reviews Deborah Hopkinson
Aladdin Library, 2002
A real story about real people! Pionner Summer is a "ready-for-chapters" book that really has it all. Pioneer Summer deals with emotional issues that children, regardless of the historical era, have in common. Eight-year-old Charlie is leaving his home and friends and making his way to a new home. At one time or another almost all children have dealt with a difficult transition period. Also, Charlie is dealing with the ...
