Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally 16 reviews John Van de Walle
Allyn & Bacon, 2006
Math teacher must have! This was a required text for a M.Ed. class. The practices in this book are almost perfectly aligned with Massachusetts frameworks and the Connnected Math Project (CMP) text used by my district (Lowell). This book is very rich with lesson plan fodder and takes pains to explain the 'why' of CMP as well as the how. I'll be relying on this book for years to come.

Sociology: A Down-to-Earth Approach (MySocLab Series) 4 reviews James M. Henslin
Allyn & Bacon, 2007
Interesting and Lively Admittedly I haven't read a lot of sociology textbooks, but this one is quite good. Every chapter has real-life examples (and many of the author's own experiences), so it not only makes you know the theory but also feel it at work in our societies, although the author writes quite a lot of his own feelings (it's dead obvious that he wants to change the world), which I don't know if it's a good ...

Influence: Science and Practice (5th Edition) 121 reviews Robert B. Cialdini
Allyn & Bacon, 2008
Persuasion At It's Finest! This book is the best ever written on this subject. I study persuasion, influence, human nature, sales and marketing obsessively. I have read many, many books from these genres and this is the one that I will not even lend out for fear of not getting it back. If you read one book in your lifetime, this should be the one.

Allyn & Bacon, 2006
Filled with practicality Although I did not use the 10th edition due that it was delivered to a neighbor, I borrowed a 9th edition that is similar. It was an excellent resource for teaching. It has practical guidelines for class prep, updated guidelines for students with disabilities and much much more. I highly recommend this book for teachers of all levels. You may not be taking this class; Educational Psychology, ...

Classroom Assessment: What Teachers Need to Know (5th Edition) 8 reviews W. James Popham
Allyn & Bacon, 2007
If you want to see improvement in your student's progress you've gotta get this book!!!! Before reading this book, I was at a loss in my classroom as to how to use assessments to monitor progress, evaluate my instructional methods, and to be sure that students were mastering the content. Mr. Popham gives precise research based strategies to do ALL these things and MORE. Most books on assessment are dry and so dense you loathe having to read them but Mr. Popham exceeded my ...

Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (8th Edition) 3 reviews Robert E. Slavin

Excellent Reference On Current Teaching Challenges This was a text book for my now completed first education class, "The Diverse Classroom". We did not have to read the entire book, just Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 12, so I base my review on those chapers. This book is rich in detail on the challenges faced in contemporary classrooms. It is well written, and has very complete and thorough references. In addition to raising awareness of key issues, it ...
