Excellent gift
This was bought as a gift. Rarely do you get a chance to give a gift that keeps on giving. In addition, it shows careful thought. The recipes outlined in the book can be accomplished and make the "chef" who cooks them a star. So the giver is one too!!!

Delightful and inspiring
How can you not love someone who writes, "What makes a boy from Ohio, born in the wrong century, raised on Tater Tots and Birds Eye, end up wanting to eat like a Greek peasant for breakfast, a French peasant for lunch, and a Moroccan peasant for dinner?" This book is beautiful, inspiring, intelligent and unpretentious. It is laid out by seasonal menu, rather than classes of food, and gets you ...

The other side of the politics
I have the book it is gorgeous and recipes are very interesting - different that anything else I have in my 300+ cookbook collection I have been having a debate with a Chinese American friend - which is relevant here: Tibetan and other minorities are resentful of Han Chinese success. The Chinese are good business people and have been doing business all over Asia for centuries. I attribute ...

Great for Beginners, Inspirational for the more experienced
For beginners, I would definitely recommend to buy this book before diving into the Itty Bitty Nursery as the author explains all the basic skills and supplies needed to complete the projects. Clear instructions along with video from Susan Anderson's Blog. The spiral-bound book helps keep the pages open so you can refer back while you knit your project. The hats are so adorable and knit up ...

Better Photos than 2008!
These photos have more universal appeal and are more 'grand' than the 2008 Audubon Engagement Calendar. My clients have had the pleasant difficulty of limiting their choices to only the number we need for a given project - often they give framed photos from the calendar as gifts.

An outstanding book on baking bread
I have been baking bread for about 7 years now and have managed to get by using recipes for quick rising bread that could be completed in one day. I managed to make bread that tasted good and looked fine, but somehow the crisp brown crust and the big air pockets that are the hallmark of artisinal bread eluded me. I picked Maggie Glezer's book because of the reviews and I can confirm that this ...

essential for the serious French food lover
Anything by Thomas Keller is a must-have for the serious French cook. This is definitely not the cookbook for the beginning home cook, as most of the recipes are multi-step--time-consuming for some. The recipes are unique, fresh, and simply delicious. The written instruction is clear and easy to follow. As an aside, I bought The French Laundry and Bouchon together, which saved me some money ...

Deep in the Grand Canyon, a misty waterfall splashes into an aquamarine pool. An orange and red sunset glows against the rippled dunes of White Sands National Monument. Wispy clouds cloak Washington's rugged, snow-dusted Mount Shuksan. Dramatic, pristine, and grand in scale, each of these full-color images is an impressive tribute to the power of North America's wilderness.

Not a "how-to"
This is not a "how-to" book - it's better than that. It's a "why" book. The author expresses in his understated manner the "why's" of working with stone and for anyone who feels about stone the way he does (and I do)it is a delight to read - and look at. This book is absolutely inspirational and a joy.

I just got this book yesterday and I'm already planning my week's meals based on the recipes! :) I've made Andhra Style Scrambled Eggs so far and they are DELICIOUS, especially served with plain basmati rice, ghee and pickle. All the recipes in here sound very interesting. The dal recipes(tok dal and mountain dal) look like they'll turn out great. Being an Indian, I can certify this book ...

Great addition to any American History collection

This literary and culinary triumph is a ticket to SE Asia.
Of the dozen cookbooks I own, this remains my favorite. Mr. Alfrod and Mrs. Duguid bring the sights, sounds and smells of the Mekong river alive with excellent prose, assisted by photos from their travels. I have made about half the recipes in this book, and they are excellent. As the authors mention, their children love it, and I can believe it. Some ingredients and techniques are unusual, but ...
