Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 173 reviews Judi Barrett
Atheneum, 1978
Great book! Love this book! I remember borrowing this book from the library when I was growing up and I had to share it with my children. My 2 boys really enjoy this book, especially when the food is gigantic. I would highly recommend this book for children of all ages.

Never Take a Shark to the Dentist: and Other Things Not to Do 4 reviews Judi Barrett
Atheneum, 2008
Goofy fun This read-aloud book has wacky, detailed illustrations that are certain to bring on the giggles. Kids will eat it up.
Each two-page spread has, on the left, straightforward advice on what not to do. On the right is a full-color illustration showing why the advice is good. For example, "Never go to the bank with a raccoon" is accompanied by an illustration of a crowded bank with everybody but ...

Duck for President 44 reviews Doreen Cronin
Atheneum, 2008
"WITH A QUACK QUACK HERE, AND A QUACK QUACK THERE." If you're having trouble choosing a candidate in this election year, Duck's your man or more properly "your duck." "Duck is Great for 2008!"
In this delightful children's story our hero may be a winner but he was once a very dissatisfied duck. He lived on a farm with many other animals and Farmer Brown. Each of the animals had a chore, and Duck thought farm work was terribly hard. So, ...

Three Little Words: A Memoir 29 reviews Ashley Rhodes-Courter
Atheneum, 2008
required reading for social work students Excellent book that describes what is both wrong and right with the foster care system. Reading this book should be a requirement for all social work students. This book is one of those "hard-to-put-down" books that is both informative and enjoyable.

Someday 95 reviews Alison McGhee
Atheneum, 2007
Makes me cry I bought this book for my daughter when she recently had her first child, my first grandchild. I cried when I first read it - and I'm not ususally a tearful, sentimental person. It expresses my feelings as I see life moving on into a new generation of my family and the poignancy of new life contrasted to the eventual end of life for each of us.

Olivia Helps with Christmas (Olivia Series) 34 reviews
Atheneum, 2007
review Do you like Christmas? Then this is the book for you. I chose Olivia helps with Christmas because it is really funny and each of the characters has their own personalities. The book is about a pig named Olivia who helps with Christmas. She helps set the table, helps feed her baby brother and they have trouble. Olivia loves making messes, getting into trouble, and she loves lying. She thinks that ...

The Underneath 12 reviews Kathi Appelt
Atheneum, 2008
Courtesy of Teens Read Too I've stated before that if a book can make me laugh hysterically or cry hysterically, it's guaranteed a good review because it means the author has gone above and beyond. That is the case with THE UNDERNEATH. Except, a good review isn't enough for this book. It is not. I only hope that my review can begin to do justice to this amazing work.
THE UNDERNEATH is lyrical, strong, and extremely ...

Little Boy 6 reviews Alison McGhee
Atheneum, 2008
Baby gift I purchased this title on a whim when a very dear friend of mine and his wife had their first child, a little boy. It just seemed right. I wasn't disappointed. It's a delightful story about a "little boy" and what's important to him. Of all his toys--the big cardboard box--and what parent doesn't understand that?

When Dinosaurs Came with Everything (Junior Library Guild Selection) 5 reviews Elise Broach
Atheneum, 2007
Cute concept, well executed Very cute concept: instead of the usual little giveaways at stores (cookie, lollipop, etc) on this day, everyone is giving away dinosaurs! The kids are really excited about this, the moms not so much (until the end...). The pictures are great - the dinosaurs look realistic, but friendly. Both my kids (boy, 4 and girl, 6) love this book... and so do I!

Olivia Counts (Olivia) 16 reviews
Atheneum, 2002
Sweet and charming book for baby This is another adorable "Olivia" book. We have them all because I have a daughter named Olivia (she's 16 and still loves the books). This one is a board book for toddlers learning to count. The illustrations are great, but not stimulating enough for a baby - if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, it's wonderful.

The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing: Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons 46 reviews Michael McTeigue
Atheneum Books, 1985
The Ultimate Golf Swing Tip Eluded Me - Until Now The very first time I played golf I got a hole-in-one.
It's been downhill ever since.
I was 15 years old and 35 years later I was still struggling to break 80. I'd hit the ball OK some days, but usually I always put too much pressure on my short game to score. I read all the books, took all the lessons and beat balls on the range until my hands bled. Mechanically everything always looked ...

Olivia Forms a Band 36 reviews
Atheneum, 2006
Olivia forms a band In this story, Olivia and her family are preparing for a night of watching fireworks. Olivia asks if there will be a band. When she is told there won't be, she decides to make the night perfect by forming a one pig band.
The book is divided into three parts. The first is Olivia's preparation for the night including making her uniform and her band. The second is the actual picnic. The final ...

Lost and Found 14 reviews Andrew Clements
Atheneum, 2008
Kids will like it... Because kids are often fascinated with twins, they should enjoy this book. It is the story of twin brothers who pull the biggest "switching places" scheme of all time, by pretending to be one person instead of two. On the first day of sixth grade in a new town, one twin goes to school to find that there is no record of his brother (who stayed home sick that day) so the two cook up a plan to ...

Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day 173 reviews Judith Viorst
Atheneum, 1972
It Was Fun, Bad Day Or Not I've seen some of the other reviews and how this book is too negative. I liked it! Things don't always so as planned, but this book offers a refreshing and funny way to introduce that concept to your child. The pictures are great and the message is clear that despite everything being topsy-turvy, it'll be allright and we'll make it through. I recommend this book. Another book I like and read ...
