This program works like nothing else I've ever tried!
This book should not be out of print! I have been a low-back-pain sufferer most of my adult life and have tried everything from weightlifting to yoga with little or no positive result (in some cases, very negative results). But this book, with its common-sense approach to both back therapy and overall exercise (making it clear that, yes, back problems are no barrier to staying in shape) got ...

Seing things in a new light..
As I read this book I was astounded at all the things that made sense. Most of everything that is in this book goes against what many of us are raised believing concerning the body. I feel this book has the ability to help us "Heal Ourselves". It seems to serve as the answers to the questions we didn't know we should ask. I STRONGLY recommend this book for anybody who is looking for something ...

The power of primary sources
Irving's detail from the perspective of the German leadership is without peer. I appreciate the fact that everything he writes is documented somewhere. Most of the book deals with the day-to-day aspects of running the German war machine as seen through the Nazi leadership's perspective and gives you a bird's eye view of what their thought process was. Contrary to some, this book does not ...
Everything Here Is Mine: An Unhelpful Guide to Cat Behavior

My favorite gift for new cat owners . . .
I love giving this little book to new cat owners, especially ones who are first-time cat folk. Nicole Hollander's "Sylvia" cartoons have long been favorites of mine, and she turns her attention and talent to astutely describing life with our furry purry friends. Her cartoons are hilarious -- just the right combination of "in your face" humor and subtlety -- and the text consisting of essays and ...

Much maligned, but quite interesting
Looking over the past reviews, one would surmise that this book is simply awful. Actually, quite to the contrary. Example: The illustrations are far from crude. In fact, they are well-drawn and very detailed. I think this is similar to the controversy surrounding the "Lord of the Rings" movies coming out. Many fans are crying "Heresy!" because the director's vision doesn't fit their notions ...

Very effective workout program!
Determined to lose weight, I bought this book when I was 21, and I gave the program 30 days. I noticed results within 2-3 weeks and by the end of the summer, I had dropped 25 lbs and two waist sizes. It's a great program that's easy to commit to and easy to work into your hectic schedule. The book is well illustrated and easy to follow. I've misplaced my book over the years and now I'm buying it ...
A Time to Heal: The Road to Recovery for Adult Children of Alcoholics

Timmen L. Cermak
Avon Books (P), 1989
Thoughtful, sensitive, concise and direct.
I've read lots of books on ACA or ACoA (Adult Child of Alcoholics). This book has excellent, meaty descriptions, anecdotes, and solutions for those who are struggling with the aftermath of growing up in a family that didn't prepare them for adulthood. Insightful enough for the professional, simply written enough for the lay person who has never had any exposure to this topic, Chermak cuts to ...

North America as You Really Know It
I purchased this in a book kiosk at the Seattle airport en route to Miami. As I was in Seattle, I started with the section that dealt with the Pacific Northwest and, damn, I suddenly realized why I'd reacted to it as I did. A stop in Kansas City, in the bread basket, proved the same response. Garreau has an instinct for people, places and things and must have had the muse sitting on his lap ...

ten stars
This book is a masterpiece of narrative journalism. Based on five years of research and interviews, it tells the story of how the Japanese came to dominate the American car industry by telling the stories of key individuals, in the U.S. and Japan, who played important roles in that story. Halberstam is such a skilled writer that every one of these people comes alive on the page; you will meet the ...

This book is a great practical guide for new parents.
I really enjoyed this book. It provides a history of the commercial baby food companies. It was a great resource to begin making my own baby food. It was also helpful as a reference to the developmental stages from first foods through preschool. This book supports introducing solids later than traditionally endorsed. I LOVED IT!

Magical
Robert Moore and Doug Gillette published a number of books on their theory of 4 male archetypes. The first is an overview entitled: "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover." They followed up this fine introductory work with a book on each of the 4 archetypes. This one is, of course, on the Magician Archetype. Each of the 4 books has a completely redundant section (worth reading once, anyway), but ...

I don't know how he does it but...
Richard Price is one of my favorite authors, and I have read all of his novels. This is by far my most favorite (and it was the last one I read!). This story really hit home with me...Stony has to chose between doing what he loves for s*** pay, or have a well-paying job that he loathes. When I read this book, I was going through a similar situation, and most of us at least have issues with our ...

Robert Moore & Doug Gillette published a number of books on their theory of 4 male archetypes. The first is an overview entitled: "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover." They followed up this fine introductory work with a book on each of the 4 archetypes. Interestingly, the media reviews of these books got better and better as each volume was published. I think this reflects more on the editorial ...

A fun read -- and shocking advice that actually works!
I have read many books on communication, and many books on how to be even happier in interpersonal relationships, and I can honestly say that Staying Married... is the best, and most helpful, one I have ever read. Don't expect sweet-sounding advice that doesn't really work -- this book gives you the real deal. The section entitled "How To Get What You Want From Your Man Without Asking" is ...

Excellent insights into what makes a great employer
Although some of the examples used are a bit dated, the insights and conclusions about what makes a good or bad employers are still valid. This is a well-written book that shows how some employers actively strive to generate trust between the company and employees. If you don't like the company for which you work, this book will illustrate some of the practices of companies that truly value ...
Blue-Eyed Child of Fortune: The Civil War Letters of Col. Robert Gould Shaw
1 review
Avon Books (P), 1994
An Unmotivated Hero?
Russell Duncan has done us a favor by making available, and editing meticulously, Colonel Shaw's letters. The problem lies with his bias: it's fashionable today to read the biographies of old-time heros with suspicion, running any plaudits they may have amassed through filters of class, race, politics, gender, and so on. The result usually debunks the hero, which is fashionable, too. This ...

A must read for divorced fathers!
Mr. Feuer's "Good Men: A Practical Handbook for Divorced Dads" should not only be read by divorced Dads, but also by divorcedMothers. His was the only book in ten full related shelves at my local bookstore that covers this subject. He touches on the fact that this subject has been neglected by the media and publishers. On the rare rare occasion when there is an aarticle or report, it is ...
