An Important Book for Financial Advisers
This collection of twenty essays on retirement planning shifts the focus of much of the current literature from the accumulation of assets to their distribution. "Retirementality" - how we think about and live out retirement (Anthony) - is being redefined by a generation who are living years longer than their predecessors. Indeed, "longevity risk" is one of the central themes of this book. As ...

Reverse Mergers: Taking a Company Public Without an IPO

David N. Feldman

Professional manual for reverse mergers
Only a few years ago, it seemed that nearly every company was going public with an IPO. Now many quality companies are locked out of the IPO market, but companies have other ways to go public. One of the most popular paths is a "reverse merger." In this transaction, your private company merges into a public company (often a "shell") and controls it, giving you a public stock with which to raise ...

Clear, concise and THOROUGH
This is the BEST book I have found (after looking a long time) to instruct those who understand AND believe in themselves in how to perpetuate their ideals. While I may not fully share the author's bias (clearly described in an opening chapter), I emphatically endorse his diagram for perpetuation. This book is a treasure map for the future. Gotta run.....hunting for treasure, y'know....
Guide to Hedge Funds: What They Are, What They Do, Their Risks, Their Advantages (Economist (Hardcover)) ...
Philip Coggan
Bloomberg Press, 2008
In 1990 hedge funds managed some $39 billion of assets. By late 2006 that figure had grown to $1.3 trillion. That is a staggering increase. Equally staggering is the amount of money successful hedge fund managers earn. In 2006 the top 25 hedge fund managers were paid $14 billion between them, with the top three earning over $1 billion each. Most people have heard the term 'hedge fund' but few are clear about what exactly a hedge fund is or what ...

My husband gave me this book for Christmas. When he gave it to me, he told me it was the best gift he would ever give me. Thank you, Ms. Richelson, for writing it. He was right. You see, my husband is sixty-two, and he is retiring when he is sixty-five--a decision he made when he was ten, I think. I retired when I was 49. Three years ago he took all our money out of the stock market and put it ...

Superb Overview of Major Economic Indicators for Traders
Even if you once knew all the ways that economic indicators are defined, data collected and reported, chances are that all of this has changed (unless your knowledge is less than 2 years old). In addition, the best way to use these indicators is constantly changing as new analytical tests are developed and back-checked. So if you are the chief economist for a Wall Street investment bank or ...

Option Strategies for Directionless Markets: Trading with Butterflies, Iron Butterflies, and Condors

Another mediocre book describing the strategies!
I have read a lot of books on options and most of them have one thing in common - they all just describe the various options strategies but do not provide any information on how to use the strategies effectively to make money. This book is no different. The book delves into how a butterfly and a condor are structured. If you know that a butterfly is structured by a short straddle and protected ...
Economics: Making Sense of the Modern Economy (Economist Books)

Bloomberg Press, 2006
Straightforward discussion of many of the prominent issues in the global economy
I have no formal economics background and have often wondered how dangerous the US trade deficit is, what are the real benefits and risks of globalization, the US versus the Eurozone versus Japan, and what role central banks and interest rates play in the global economy. It is often difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff in any attempt to understand these issues, it seems as if there is ...

Useful Primer
Unwitting new philantrophists sometimes end up with bureaucratic creatures that do exactly what the donor did not want. This book is full of practical advice on how to avoid unpleasant surprises if you set up a foundation of your own, such as finding out that you have no control over its activities. It also gives a succinct review of investment problems. Foundations can potentially last for many ...

Jeffrey H Rattiner

An emerging Ethical, Caring and Holistic Profession
Initially, there is a typical cheap-sell impulse about this book (even labeled on the back of it) that breaking into the lucrative financial planning field has never been so easy! Such misleading comments will only damage a highly respectable profession. Before reading this book, I was intimidated with a perception that financial planners were just another concoction of pesky stockbrokers ...
Guide to Economic Indicators: Making Sense of Economics - Sixth Edition

If only economics were that easy
True to the style of The Economist, this book makes everything seem easier than it really is. However, for people who spend too much time thinking about economic issues, this is actually rather refreshing, much like a cold beer after a long day's work. Some examples: "In the long term, the growth in economic output depends on the number of people working and output per worker (productivity)" ...

May Require Above Average Work for a Little Extra Return
I came across the first edition of this book in my local library (along with Mullaney's book on REITs). That edition hit all the right notes, and as expected from someone who manages an REIT fund, Block reserves considerable space in the book for his pitch for the REIT as a great investment vehicle. Overall, I found the first edition to be balanced, even-handed and a solid introduction to the ...

An excellent quick read!
I once read that you have to do something twenty one times for it to become a habit. After reading STEAL THESE IDEAS! by Steve Cone, I am absolutely certain that I will never, ever, ever use white reverse type for any ad copy. Cone is a champion at getting his point across, over and over and over. That's not to say this book is dull and repetitive. Far from it. Cone presents critical ...
