The Book of Common Prayer & the Holy Bible, NRSV, Black4 reviews

Church Publishing, 2007

All in one spiritual reference
Though I've only had this for a short time I have found it to be quite a convenient addition to my Sunday's. The multiple page markers enable me to keep track of the weekly prayers and sermons. Everything is in one single bound book. The size is also very nice because it small and fits into many smaller bags including a purse. Even with its diminutive size the book will still lie flat when ...

Lift Every Voice and Sing II: An African American Hymnal4 reviews

Church Publishing, 1993

Wonderful Music
These are beautiful arrangements of African American religious songs and melodies, not too difficult for someone with intermediate piano-playing ability. I got this as a Christmas present, and have used it happily ever since. My only suggestion for improvement would be a spiral-bound edition, to make it easier to keep the book open on the piano stand.

The Spirit of the Child (National Society's RE Centre Annual Lecture)3 reviews
Rebecca Nye

Church House Publishing, 1999

The Spirit of the Child by David Hay with Rebecca Nye
The authors report and reflect on the results of their research on children's perceptions of spiritual experience. Based on interviews with children, the authors come to describe the spirituality of children as "relational consciousness" -- the child's innate sense of relationship with others, creation, one's self, and God. This significant research supports the work of Sofia Cavalletti, ...

The Prayer-given Life3 reviews
Edward Stone Gleason

Church Publishing, 2007

Pay Attention
Mr. Gleason and his wife were witnesses to an ordinary, extraordinary moment. While driving home one evening they saw an owl in the garden. They watched it for a while. The evening continued. He uses this moment to show us the importance of watchfulness and silence. "The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him." (Habakkuk 2:20, BCP 20)" Using stories as tools for ...

Hand to Hand: From Combat to Healing4 reviews
Nigel Mumford

Church Publishing, 2006

Hand to Hand fill the heart
We found this book to be very inspiring, and helpful in the depth of prayer life, especially in the need of deep inner healing. God has a purpose in our reading this as we pray earnestly for the healing of a loved one.

Harc: Inside Chants3 reviews

Church Publishing, 2005

Enchanting
This is truly outstanding quality music - obviously highly prepared and beautifully produced. Love Ruth Cunningham's voice - this is the best of her CDs that I have heard. Really does take you to another - and better! - place.

The Book of Occasional Services 2003 (Book of Occasional Services)4 reviews

Church Publishing, 2004

Uncommon prayers...
It is an oft-quoted joke that if you ask an Anglican to pray, the Anglican will first reach for a book. Reality is, as it often is, twice as true and half as funny, but for a particular reason. The Anglican liturgical style is very rooted in tradition, and while innovation is acceptable, it must be done in full recognition and appreciation of the past. The primary book used during worship ...

The Molten Soul: Dangers and Opportunities in Religious Conversion9 reviews
Gray Temple

Church Publishing, 2001

A Book to Come Back to
The Molten Soul is Gray Temple's vivid metaphor for what happens to us Christians in our conversion moments, those times when we actually come face to face with God. With conversational warmth, Temple confronts the opportunities and problems presented by religious conversion through lenses of the Christian life, faith, doctrine, and community. He tackles questions that we all ask - such as, why ...

The Marriage Journey: Preparations and Provisions for Life Together3 reviews
Linda L. Grenz, Delbert C. Glover

Church Publishing, 2003

A concise, easy to read guide to marriage or marriage prep.
I picked up this book to help me and my husband in preparing to present a marriage preparation course. It is wonderfully written and full of useful insights. We found the information most helpful and very complimentary to the materials we had already. It is written so that you can read one chapter at a time in the order that you wish. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in ...

The Geranium Farm Cookbook2 reviews
Barbara Cawthorne Crafton

Church Publishing, 2006

Packed with delicious dishes.
The Geranium Farm evolved from Reverand Crafton's imagination and evolved not from the usual restaurant roots, but from an online parish ministry where 'Farmers' began sharing recipes with each other via an email list. Main desserts, appetizers, breakfasts and brunches - the largest section being desserts - are provided in a guide which blends recipes and lore. From a grandmother's Dutch cookies ...

Lord, Open Our Lips: Musical Help for Leaders of the Liturgy2 reviews

Church Publishing, 2000

Excellent and Easy to Use Guide
This is an excellent and very usable selection of cantors for use by clergy during the Eucharistic part of the service. It covers all four selections in the Book of Common Prayer, with traditional and contemporary versions sung. It consists of three CDs with a book showing the music and words. It is an easy-to-follow product and one that was highly recommended to me. I, in turn, would definitely ...

Prayers from the Darkness: The Difficult Psalms2 reviews
Lyn Fraser

Church Publishing, 2005

Hope for Hard Times
Someone loaned me a copy of Prayers from the Darkness, and I have gotten so much out of it, I'm buying my own + some for friends. Fraser manages to give new life and hope through her reading of the difficult Psalms. The book has a very personal feeling because of the stories about people who shared their hard times with Fraser and how a difficult Psalm helped them. They are true saints of God. ...

An Apology of the Church of England2 reviews
John Jewel, John E. Booty

Church Publishing, 2002

An argument for orthodox Christian religion
John Jewel wrote his Apology in the mid 16th Century in support of the nascent Church of England. In it, he deftly expresses that the foundation for the Church of England as a separate entity from the Roman Catholic Religion is not a novelty but is found in the Scriptures, in the writings of the church Fathers and in the early Church and even Jewish tradition. For Jewel, he and the Church of ...

Gay Unions in Light of Scripture Tradition and Reason2 reviews
Gray Temple

Church Publishing, 2004

"Can We Talk" about "Gay Unions"?
This most recent book by Gray Temple is the most informed, candid and rational discussion of this emotional topic that I have read. In typical fashion for this author, it is both straightforward and kind. Drawing on the Anglican trilateral- authority of Scripture, Tradition and Reason as one thing about which Episcopalians still agree, Temple's approach is scholarly and pastoral as he dares to ...

Notes from a Sojourner (Journeybook)2 reviews
Margaret Guenther

Church Publishing, 2002

Passages
Margaret Guenther begins her forward with the definition of the word sojourner which contains the French word for day. In this way she reminds "us of our transience and of the inexorable passage fo time." Then in fresh, warm and challenging reflections she shares her faith journey. In these reflections, gathered in a variety of segments entitled "Friends and Sisters; Words; Work; Growing Old ...

The Saint Helena Breviary: Personal Edition2 reviews
Order of St Helena

Church Publishing, 2006

Monastic Daily Prayers
I should qualify my review by saying that I regularly go to retreats at the Convent of St. Helena in Augusta, so I have an image in my head of the service as I use this book. I also have a slightly different edition, the monastic edition. The Order of St. Helena is a religious order of women associated with the Episcopal Church, formed in 1945. They have three houses, one in Vails Gate, New ...
