Along with the scale fold-out plan on the inside of the jacket with folds at the top and bottom, photographs, models, and diagrams recreate the three historic, legendary ships of Columbus's first voyage to the New World. HMS BEAGLE: Survey Ship Extraordinary (Anatomy of the Ship)

Another good Anatomy of the Ship book
While this is another great book in the series, I found it lacking in several departments when compared to other such books. Of course it must be understood that not a great deal of hard evidence is available on this ship as there is on the USS Constitution or the HMS Victory (which both still exist). In a couple of cases, the author seemed to place items on the ship to ease the making of the ...

An insightful study of the design of Cook's Endeavor
This book offers some suprising insights into Capt. Cook's Endeavor. It discusses some of the previous misconceptions that have overshadowed an accurate picture of what this ship was, and what it looked like. This is a "must have" resource for anyone interested in producing an accurate model of the Endeavor, or for any one interested in getting a better feel the history of the event. ...

best of the series
I currently own eight books of the Anatomy of the Ship series and have looked at several others. John McKay's HMS Pandora is the best of the lot. The drawings are beautifully drawn and reproduced and the book is composed in a very intellegent manner. The same comments con be made for Mckay's The Armed Transport Bounty but the Bounty in a less interesting ship. I found the HMS Pandora an ...

Excellent and inspirational guide to building your own R/C yacht
The RacingSparrow750 is a 770mm long, 1371mm tall yacht which was designed to be built using simple tools. The construction process is as follows: 1) First, a backbone is fitted with bulkheads to form a balsawood 'skeleton'. 2) The hull is shaped using thin planking strips. 3) A thin fibreglass 'skin' is placed on the hull and impregnated with resin. 4) You'll need to build a keel bulb, ...

book review
I don't know anything about ships. I bought it as a gift for someone who is interested in WWII planes and ships. This book gives a history of the ship in the first half of the book, and the 2nd half of the book is all detailed ship drawings of probably every single part that is used to build the ship. It looks pretty thorough and informative if you are into this hobby.

The first of the "Anatomy of the Ship" series
This was the first book in the 36 books of the Anatomy of the ship series, published by Conway Maritime Press and the Naval Institute Press. Each book depicts an historical vessel. The Hood was the pride of the Royal Navy, and like the Titanic, unsinkable. Until it was sunk by the by the Bismarck and the Prinz Eugen. Why, because the deck armour was too thin. Anyway, this book was a revolution ...

Best book I've read on the subject!
Lords of the East offers a richly illustrated, densely detailed text describing the East India Company from many aspects as it evolved from a handful of adventurers to the backbone of an empire. 74-GUN SHIP BELLONA: Revised Edition (Anatomy of the Ship)
Brian Lavery
Conway Maritime Press, 2003
The '74' was the classic line-of-battle ship of the late eighteenth century, and Bellona was one of the most important and long lived. Launched in 1760, during the Seven Years War, she belonged to the first truly successful class of British 74-gun ships, a design by Thomas Slade that was built in large numbers over more than twenty years. Bellona herself served with distinction over 54 years, fought in four wars and was not broken up until 1814. ...

Brief but fascinating - wonderful drawings
This A4 paperback provides a good visual introduction to Tirpitz and some data on Bismarck. The first part includes general arrangement drawings of armour, followed by well-chosen photgraphs of the ship which show most of the details a modeller or historian would need. Some of the photographs are wrongly captioned, however, and they are not in chronological order. Some are also out of ...
