The King's Shield (Inda, Book 3)

The Prodigal Returns Home
This book continues the tale of the first two, and it's recommended to begin with _Inda_, as the story is complex and full of characters and events and there is little to no recapping of information. After nine years of exile from his country, Inda, still only around 20 years old, is returning with news of an invasion by the Venn. He returns to an uncertain welcome and many unknown changes that ...

fantastic military science fiction
The Roman Empire never died; it just went underground waiting for the right time to emerge. That time came when FTL ships made traveling to the stars possible while the internet connected the Romans all across the globe. They took a spaceship and colonized the planet Palatine, modeling it after the ancient Roman Empire. They have since colonized planets all over the galaxy and they have ...

It's really good
I liked this book a lot. It was original, compelling, and very well-written (with the exception of a couple typos). I didn't want to leave off reading it. If you like fantasy, this is a breath of fresh air. There aren't any ideas ripped off from other books and tweaked; rather it is the story of a young man who seems to be a genius, though not wise as much as smart. There are a few demons, forces ...

excellent Stratification "pre" saga
On the planet Cersi lives three very distinct sentient species. The Oud reside under the earth tunneling to where they want to go and have the ability to restore clan lands; the impoverish Om'ray can pass as human and have psi power so that all in a clan are interconnected; finally the Tikitik are by far the most feral. All three species adhere to the Agreement, which demands they keep their ...

The saga continues . . . and builds again
My first reaction when seeing the note that The Shadowed Isle is not the last book in the great Deverry cycle was angst that I had to wait again for another book, then a great flood of relief, as I could not figure out how even the almighty Kit could have brought this series to a satisfactory ending in just one book after The Spirit Stone. I wholeheartedly recommend the entire Deverry saga, ...

Great book!
This third installment in the Green Rider series was a good adventure! There were many surprises as well as some predictable moments, but not enough that made me like the book any less. I really enjoy Britain's writing style, and like how it is in a way a very cliched fantasy, but at the same time can be entirely original. The characters you fell for in book one are back with force and morals ...

Marvelous!
I LOVED The Fox as much as I loved Inda! The story continued flawlessly and makes you hold your breath as the plot takes a new dip here and there. Smith has a way with words that is hard to come by, so don't be scared by the size of this book! You will find yourself reading it for hours on end. This story has many pirate fights, betrayals, deals, adventures and surprise for not only Inda and his ...

Continued enjoyment
I liked First Rider's Call as much as I liked Green Rider. There is adventure, magic, intrigue and wit all written wonderfully into this story. I think that Britain is very talented to be able to use typical magic, but weave it into a book that isn't like anything else you have ever read. Recommended to anyone who liked Green Rider or just enjoys a good fantasy book in general.

Cherryh Delivers the Goods
Better and better and even more so, Cherryh just keeps on delivering the goods with her Foreigner saga. The ninth book - Deliverer, the adventures of a human on an alien world mingling with alien friends and alien enemies - furthers the story of Bren, a diplomat-linguist of the highest order. In fact, he has been endowed with the title "Lord of the Heavens", although in this story, he is ...

This won't disappoint
Although I enjoyed Gold Falcon, I was disappointed at its lack of a past life section. Spirit Stone suffers no such lack, and indeed fills in a missing section most satisfactorily. Without wishing to give anything away, this book also expands the action to include the perspective of two unanticipated characters, and arrives at its planned destination with many engrossing detours. Some may ...

Good read
I am a big fan of the Elemental Masters series, including 'Fire Rose' though 'Gates of Sleep' and 'Wizard of London' was a bit disappointing. This book did not disappoint, and was a refreshing change from the last couple of books. The cover is elegant and I love how the cat looks, though one should not judge a book by its cover (ha!) The story is evenly paced, I liked the character of Ninette, ...

All the loose Ends are tied, and more questions are left
The first book of the Elven Ways Series "The Four Forges" was a book that showed a different story to the Elven Mythos that littered typical fantasy. In the first book the author painted a picture of Elves of a being more aligned with humans than the reclusive, nature loving elves of mondern day High Fantasy. It was also a book about how these elves affected the world and other races they ...

R.M. Meluch does it again.
"Make me laugh; make me cry; make me wait." I'm not sure who said that but I have heard it over the years in regards to good fiction, and R.M. Meluch does all three in her 3rd installment of the Merrimack series. Usually I can figure plot directions out pretty early in a book but not so with Sagittarius Command. Meluch leaves a clear and intriguing trail to follow without giving away what it's ...

Michelle West

Another excellent read from Michelle West!
First I have to say that in my opinion, Michelle West is a writer in the same category of excellence as the recently deceased Robert Jordan. I loved reading The Hidden City, it was great to have something new from West to read. I read the Sun Sword series 3 or 4 times! This book reminds me of the first volume in West's Sun Sword series, in that it focuses extensively on one character (Jewel) ...
